A Great Typical Old Fashioned Pub
Aug 2018 • Friends
Having now lived near the Horse Chestnut pub for 9 months it is amazing now well used it is.

It is lovely to see how it is frequented by locals, some of which have been drinking there for years.

It has an outside drinking area which could be better and with a little thought and money could be made much more attractive to customers, and someone with either a hoe or weedkiller could make the frontage look a little more cared for.

We have eaten there twice. The second time was a disappointment. I had cauliflower cheese soup, which was not as I expected, having cream cheese in it rather than a hard cheese. My husband had fish and chips. The chips were not cooked properly and the fish over cooked. We were asked if our meal was OK and told the waiter that it was not enjoyable and why. There was a gruff apology and that was it.

Since then we have avoided eating there but still go occasionally go for a drink.

Great beer festival
May 2018 • Couples
Having just returned from a fabulous beer festival. A great selection of beer good selection of food to soak the beer up. It obviously takes a lot of work to run a beer festival so thanks to Richard & Mel but more importantly to the staff they were brilliantly.

Fantastic pub, Mel and Richard have done so much with it
May 2016 • Couples
Congratulations to Mel & Richard for turning this pub around, it is constantly busy with great cliental.
They are always looking to up their game.
The food is fantastic and regularly revamped, so you always have new choices.
The bar staff are always friendly and attentive, especially chloe and jess? Who always have a smile for you and take the time to say hello, even when they are really busy.
Can't wait for the beer festival next bank holiday, last year was fantastic.
Fingers crossed for good weather.

Delicious Desserts 👍
Aug 2015 • Friends
We decided to sample the Sunday Lunch Menu, which had a choice of three roasts, a fish and a vegetarian option.
As all the vegetable dishes are dressed with butter, choosing a Gluten and Dairy free option was a challenge! Even the new potatoes were buttered, so Grilled Red Snapper and basic salad was the dish of the day.
Desserts looked and tasted deliciously creamy, though sorbet was available.
A genuine Old School Pub with proper Ale, clean and pleasant surroundings, helpful staff and Chef, with spotless toilets and Disabled and Wheelchair ♿ friendly.
We're tempted to try the weeknight specials.

Excellent ale!
Quality cask ales from a variety of different breweries means there is always a new tipple to try. Cosy, welcoming atmosphere and great traditional food. Lovely sun trap beer garden out the back to enjoy those coming summer days too!
