Splendid pub
Sep 2021
Splendid pub for another beer in the Sept sunshine, very popular, but still offered excellent choices of alcohol from a wide range by quick servicing staff, well worth a pint or two.

Good Beer, Lovely Lunch @ air con
Sep 2021
this was on my husbands must go to list and so we did. on a lovely sunny Monday afternoon. it was far to arm outside and so decided to sit inside and the air conditioning was welcomed and fantastic. it was very quite and service was great and my husband enjoyed a few pints. the food was very easy on the purse and delicious, we both went for the sandwiches and side of chips and coleslaw. it was gorgeous, filling and very very tasty indeed well worth the money. T
The beer and drinks are good for what’s on offer, but this is great social spot for meet ups and starters. Just sometimes worth the wait to get a spot on the outside table.

Worth a visit if your looking for somewhere to rest your feet on a visit for lunch and a drink.

My must go destination
Sep 2021 • Friends
On any trip to Nottingham I take I always look forward to visiting Castle Wharf with its great canalside pubs, bars and restaurants, one of my favourite haunts is Canalhouse Bar.
This bar housed in a Grade II listed former canal museum is awesome, a huge bar ,a pretty bridge brings you over 2 canal boats into the main bar area, exposed brickwork, a superb looking serving bar dominates the main room ,great decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this bar both inside and outside looking out onto the canal area, a very cool bar indeed.
We were here on a Wednesday afternoon, we had a study of their real ale's and we both opted to have a pale ale each from Castle Rock Brewery, served in pristine condition, we just kicked back and took in the great bar we were in.
My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale with a big hit of hops, hints of toffee, a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish, on a hot afternoon a totally refreshing brew.
We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
Canalhouse Bar is easy to locate along Canal Street.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Thursday, Midday till 11pm.
Friday & Saturday, Midday till Midnight.
Sunday, Midday till 10pm.
A wonderful bar,one I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area.

App not needed
Jun 2021
Covid rules in place at canalhouse which is great currently, but to be forced to use the app to order drinks is poor, when there are plenty of staff to sort an order out is rubbish, i asked a member of staff can we order via him and then pay by card and it was ok. So stick to your guns, pay by card and a better time can be had.

Hi there, Thanks for coming by and supporting us with all the pandemic restrictions in place. You're correct that in you didn't have to order online, we did offer the choice of ordering online or with a server. I'm glad you had a good visit! Cheers, Wayne

Disappointing
Aug 2020 • Couples
Upon arrival we were greeted, very rudely, by a waitress who was out of breath and not very welcoming. We were shown to our table which was covered in sand and didn’t feel very clean. There were empty glasses and glass carriers everywhere, and it didn’t feel very well organised. We asked for food and were shown a QR code to scan, which we did. There was no mention of a kitchen closing time. After a problem with the app (not being able to upgrade to curly fries), our food was booted off the app and it said it wasn’t available at this time. We then asked a waitress who said the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes, and we couldn’t have food, despite the fact the table next to us had food delivered as we were talking. At this point we had paid for parking.

We will not be returning.

Hi there, I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit. Firstly, glass carriers are left on the tables for customers to fill with their empties - the idea is that once filled we can take them without spending too much time in close proximity with customers whilst they're still sat at the table. Occasionally you will see tables with plenty of empties but as those tables are vacated we are then free to clean and tidy whilst remaining socially distant. Obviously we would rather clear tables as empties become available but due to the current pandemic it is safer for both staff and customers for us to clear tables once they are vacated. I'm sorry you didn't feel that your table was clean. We have a cleaning regime for tables that includes two separate sanitisers. One step is to clean the table of any glasses and plates, then use the first sanitiser to clean any debris on the table. We then use an anti-virucidal sanitiser to make sure the table is ready for the next customer. Again, apologies that this may not have happened. Regarding the food, the app is set to take last orders for the kitchen 10 minutes before closing. This allows the kitchen to prepare the last checks and finish on time (hence why food was still arriving to adjacent tables). I understand the staff member who greeted you should have warned you that you were arriving close to the cut off time so I have told greeters to make sure they communicate this to those arriving around the time of last orders. We don't have customer parking facilities so I'm sorry that you paid for parking elsewhere, hopefully you were able to make use of your time in the city. Cheers, Wayne Manager

Going out for a 🍺 is no longer an enjoyable experience 😷
Aug 2020 • Couples
Have to admit The Canalhouse is a favourite of mine also a regular meeting place with the lads for our works nights out, Saturday afternoon 8/8/20 Mrs Red & I, have you booked? No. Stand there for 10 minutes, I have always found when you give some people a bit of authority its goes to their head, asked to scan an app on the wall, which we reluctantly did, she then told the bouncer/doorman off for touching her pen, he did roll his eyes @ me, shown to a table where half a bowl of half eated chips & few empty glasses where? Now download an app to order & pay for our drinks, took about 15 minutes to arrive, big fan of Harvest Pale this was washy & quite flat, spotted the same lady (red hair) tell some lads off because 8 where sat @ the table, yet they allow smoking & vaping?
I'll be back, but not until this covid is cleared up & everything back to normal, going out for a drink is no longer an enjoyable experience.

Hi there, I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit. Obviously we are working within the confines of trying to manage a global pandemic and how we operate has to take that into consideration. Online ordering is recommended as it is entirely contactless - thus reducing the risk of transmission. For those unable to order online we have menus and we are happy to do full table service if required. Shared tools must be sanitised - this will be the reason the staff member told the door staff for using her pen. Again, the intention is to reduce the risk of transmission. Outside tables are limited to 6 people from any number of households, the table that was told off would have been notified at the door and again, it is necessary for us to follow government guidance in order for us to be allowed to open. Yes, we allow people to smoke and vape. Currently that is allowed under the regulations. Whether that is counter-intuitive or not is up to the government not us. Sometimes there is a wait at the door as people are seated and house rules explained. I apologise that on this occasion it took 10 minutes - it shouldn't take nearly as long and is often much, much quicker. You certainly shouldn't have been shown to a table that had just been vacated. As it is unlikely to return to 'normal' anytime soon, I hope that you understand that many venues are trying their hardest to adapt to the current situation. Perhaps those venues trying to make the best of a bad situation should be given the benefit of the doubt - as long as they are doing their best to make sure their customers and staff are safe. Hopefully we will see you again soon and I promise he HPA will be in better condition! Cheers, Wayne
