Is this the end of the line.

8.45 Friday evening a deserted lounge and restaurant and there are only 4 of us in the bar. The staff are dismissive and tell us they are shutting the bar. This used to be a popular bar and pub but staff indifference have steadily driven the customers away. It's time for a change.

Disappointing

Came here for Sunday lunch today. Despite the majority of the restaurant being empty we was placed in a corner so close to a table of 12 that my partner had to keep moving his chair to let people out!

The food was ok but not amazing. The staff are attentive but there appears to be a lack of communication as we were asked whether we wanted deserts by 4 different waitresses one after another!

Quiz night
Oct 2018 • Family
We went to the Earl of Chesterfield on a Tuesday night as a family of 4. We were happy to discover that it was a quiz night. My husband and I ordered a platter to share £9.95 and it included chips, garlic bread, big chunky mozzarella sticks and onion rings plenty for both of us to share. The kids both had homemade pie which came with mash and a selection of veg or mushy peas and gravy. That was £8.50 because Tuesday and Wednesday is Pie night. We were assured that they were gorgeous.. we enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed for the quiz even though we didn’t do very well. The quiz is held monthly so we will definitely brush up on our quizzing skills and be back. Good food and great service and friendly staff.

Disappointing

I was really looking to trying here, based on previous reviews, however I left feeling pretty let down.

Six of us were dining on a Sunday, when we arrived we were plonked on a table which seemed to interfere with the walkway through from the bar. How my brother in law didn’t get covered in food or drink was a miracle! The table as come come into the restaurant could really do with being turned on an angle!

There weren’t enough menus for the table (if there was a placing for six, you would’ve thought six menus would be there!)

The fixed menu is very reasonably priced and we all thoroughly enjoyed our starters, I had the Stilton parfait, my sister the pate, the rest beef koftas and soup.

The mains however were not as great, the sea bass was extremely tasteless - the dish definitely could’ve done with some capers or something, and the mash was so wishy washy as the spinach just left it watery.

My husband said the same about his pasta, watery and completely tasteless. The pasta was supposed to come with Parmesan crisps but didn’t- when we raised this we were just bought some grated Parmesan!

My sister had the pork Sunday dinner which she enjoyed, also the sticky toffee puddings went down well.

All the waiting staff seemed friendly but unfortunately based on this trip we wouldn’t return.

Another visit. The Earl of Chesterfield is always on the go to list when I visit my parents. This time we had four different starters and four different lunches and all pleased us a lot. The roasts were delicious, quality ingredients, well prepared. The Yorkshires were fabulous and the vegetables well cooked. Sister had the sea bass and loved the taste. The staff may be young but are very professional and look after you so well. Highly recommended.

We visited here as a party of nine on Christmas Eve, every year we try to go our with a group of friends to celebrate Christmas. This year our party was made up of 6 adults, 2 children and 1 infant and nothing was too much trouble for this restaurant. The food was excellent and great value for money. All the staff were very attentive and at no point did we feel rushed which is rare when eating out with children.
I would highly recommend this restaurant, and will be definitely be back soon.
