A great surprise
May 2021
Driving through Caunton we stopped at The Plough for lunch. Outside seating on the patio and in the garden. Lovely setting with nice views over the garden and towards the church. Staff really welcoming. I had butternut squash and potato curry accompanied by rice and warm nan bread. Really scruptous my partner had a pie with piping hot chips, which he enjoyed. Will certainly go back, a great find.

Lovely village pub

Lovely friendly pub. People moved away from the bar to be able to get served which I thought was very courteous. Food was excellent and owners very friendly and thanked us for coming’.

We came across the plough inn by chance as driving through Caunton. So glad we did. Friendly welcome, cozy atmosphere and good menu. Had the steak ale and cheese pie.... delicious!!! Going to be recommending this place to others visiting cromwell/newark.

Unexpected find.
Sep 2018
We were actually looking for another pub in the village but were taken at how inviting this place looked. The hosts were both very welcoming on entering and although it looks a local village pub we were not made to feel unwelcome. We had a lovely meal really hot and well cooked and it was all went down very well with the cider being served for the festival the pub had on. Very much a friendly and positive experience. A very lucky find and one down in our book for another visit....

Great country pub.

The plough is a great village pub serving Marstons beers, and typical pub food.
Landlord and landlady are very friendly and welcoming. Walkers and dogs are welcome and it has a great atmosphere.
In the summer you can sit in the garden and enjoy the lovely surroundings.

After walk lunch
Feb 2017
13 of us enjoyed a meal here following our 6mile club walk around the area.
Jackie and Ian, the hosts, were extremely helpful and pleasant when helping us to book and pre order our meals as we were unsure exactly what time we would be back to eat.
The table was laid out ready for us, tucked away slightly from the bar area, so we felt very comfortable together.
The pub is warm and inviting and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their individually chosen, very reasonably priced, meals.
Food was served piping hot and very quickly and was washed down with an assortment of ales/wine and soft drinks.
Thank you, we shall be back!

Fantastic!
Aug 2016
Ian and Jackie have done a grand job of reviving this once great pub back to its best. For a long time is was a place i'd sooner avoid but since the arrival of these two landlords, I'll certainly use it more often.

It's a shame the brewery have overall command, as I'd really like to see what the landlords can achieve on their own. The food is cheap and cheerful and that's all you could ask of a lovely village pub.

The hosts are welcoming and the wooden decking outside is brilliant for the summer months. On a weekend you can see the stars of the village cricket team! And if you ask nicely, they may even give you their autograph on a napkin.

It has a pool table and a jukebox for entertainment too!

Great visit will see it more often In the near future

A Little Gem of a Village Pub
Jul 2016 • Couples
Travelling North on the A1 near Newark we were looking for something to eat. After some research we came across The Plough Inn at Caunton which is a couple of miles east of the AI just north of Newark. What a find. A really friendly village pub, very welcoming, good beer and very good pub food at what I reckon are excellent prices. Well worth the slight detour.
