Great district of Nottingham to explore
Aug 2021 • Friends
If you head to The Weekday Cross Monument this marks the area of what is known as Lace Market, this is a fabulous district of Nottingham that possesses some of Nottinghams finest buildings, so many great architectural styles here ranging from Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian ,besides the fantastic architecture there's plenty of retail outlets and the pubs, bars and restaurants in the Lace Market area are awesome, its certainly a party area, if you're planning a trip to Nottingham its most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Oh Dear
Nov 2019 • Couples
Sorry, but yes it’s an “Oh Dear”. When we first arrived in Nottingham we had to find “our car park” . So around the one way system twice, we find it. Full up. Our hotel is in the Lace market, so we park in a car park next door to the one that we were told to use. Yes it was safe, but the smell..and no lifts. NOT GOOD. Then first impression of Nottingham is “what a sh1t hole” AND THAT IS SO WRONG. There is lots to do and see.. good shops and restaurants. But if your looking for lace..forget it.

Nice district of Nottingham.

Although there is relatively little pertaining to the rich history of lace making associated with Nottingham which is a bit of a lost opportunity for the city the area that constitutes the Lace Making district is awesome with amazing architecture both old and modern and some fabulous looking churches but to me the best part of the Lace Market district is the vibrant nightlife scene, lots of cosy pubs and modern bars and some really good restaurants.
A great district and most definitely well worth checking out.

Like many other reviews we struggled a) to find it and even the local police couldn’t help us. Finally we found the area but as others said some lovely buildings but “no trace of the lace”. Sad really

Disappointing as I thought we may have seen some lace being made or some exhibitions. The area could have more signs giving information seeing as how this was an important part of Nottinghams history

Eventually found this area but that's all it is. Come on Nottingham council this is a lost opportunity, so many visitors would like more information and the chance to see or buy some famous Nottingham lace.

No lace!
Aug 2017 • Couples
When you think of Nottingham you think of lace. The Lace Market Centre sadly did not fulfil my expectations. I had imagined learning about the development of the lacemaking industry, maybe some displays or even working examples and perhaps a few shops to buy souvenir lace doilies or whatever. Sadly not! The buildings were beautiful to look at from the outside and a bit of imagination brought them to life but that was as far as it went. There were signs of a trail for the visually impaired which was a wonderful idea as it had tactile raised images of the buildings but there was no information for either sighted nor blind visitors. We found 3 of these signs but I think there are supposed to be 7. I wonder where the others are? Is there even a leaflet available? There were a couple of signs on walls with a bit of information about the rise of the lace industry. One of these signs was tucked away behind a very smelly wheelie bin. I read as much as I could before needing to move on for fresh air. What a sad disappointment! I believe that what I expected to see may be available at a museum somewhere else in the city but sadly my stay is at an end. Beautiful in architectural history, extremely poor in lacemaking history. If you want a nice dining experience or a few drinks amongst stunning buildings this may be a good place to go but an educational experience it is not. Nottingham, this makes me sad!

What centre?
Apr 2017
What centre?? my mother and I looked round and round, up and down every street. We checked maps online and Googled for information but couldn’t find anything detailing the lace centre apart from 3 signs with some information and a row of houses?

Such a shame, a heritage like this should be celebrated.

A Random Area of Offices
Apr 2017 • Friends
This is a very confusing place. We wandered round and around looking for a centre but it's just an area. Mostly full of offices, some restaurants and a handful of shops.
There is a pretty church with an unkempt churchyard. There is a very old building behind hoardings and scaffolding and we found a couple of plaques on a wall of a modern building interpreting the lace industry. I was disappointed there was not a museum dedicated to the lace industry. We did find the theatre but one of the old buildings shown in the photos is actually up near the castle

Full of character
Feb 2016 • Family
A pleasant part of the city centre within walking distance of the hustle and bustle of the busy shopping streets. Gives you a good flavour of part the city's heritage, with a surprising range of places to eat and drink. St Mary's church is also worth a visit while visiting the area.
