Visited this evening.... Harj at the door advising of a 25 minute wait and turning literally 30 guests away during my wait (40 mins in total!). Eventually got inside to what was an empty venue! Young manager in a checked shirt with brown wavy hair tried his best but is too inexperienced to be running a city centre venue. 7+ bar staff kissing each other and generally dossing instead of running drinks which are left sitting at the bar. Would be interesting to know how cosy effective this venue is? My guess would be not very! Contact me direct for further details.

I have been to boilermaker many times before and really enjoyed it, I decided on my visit to Nottingham I would show my friend -
Unfortunately this experience wasn't as good as previous ones -
We got there 2 mins before 2pm which was opening time, so we decided to wait, there was 2 other couples waiting as well,
About 2 mins past 2 a lady comes from the back and blatantly mouths "oh my god" in response to people waiting, she opens unlocks the door and walks off...
We waited about a minute unsure if we can enter, but then we come in,
She didn't smile once while we was within the boilermaker, she seemed so unhappy in her job role, I don't understand why she worked there,
The drink I had was undrinkable very strange tasting, I left half of it, but this might just be my taste.
Definitely not a good experience all and all.
Such a shame..

Excellent couple of evenings. Great concept, great venue, great staff.
From entering the 'shop' the experience was great. Through the secret door to be greeted by a waitress and shown to our table. Water already on the tables is a nice touch, great vibe, music not too loud so you can hear other speak. Table service so no need to queue etc. Great cocktails some quirky, some more traditional. The staff really added to the night, friendly and personable.
Would definitely recommend and visit again.

This cocktail bar is much more spacious than it appears from the outside. I enjoyed a couple of the good selection of cocktails. My partner enjoyed Duvel beer.
The service was excellent, we really enjoyed the evening, it made a perfect end to our stay in Nottingham.

The first time I went to boilermaker I thought it was kind of cool. My recent experience however left me feeling so angry that I have to tell everyone about it in the hope that I can deter at least some people from giving boilermaker their custom.
The lady at the front desk was a bit cold and rude which didn't bother me too much, I thought that might be part of the show. My two friends and I entered the bar and were surprised to see that my sister was in there with two of her friends, so we asked if we could be seated with them. The guy was really funny about it, saying he wouldn't usually allow that kind of thing but he did let us sit together, and we ordered a bottle of prosecco. Problems arose when another of my sisters friends turned up, and she wasn't allowed to sit with us despite there being space at the table (and loads of empty tables around, by the way) because we had already upset him by wanting to add on to an existing table. He said I should have told him we were expecting more guests- I had no idea there were others coming. I tried to reason with this very rude man and I felt really bad for my sisters friend who was quite embarrassingly not being allowed to sit down with her friends. There was a nice waitress there who seemed quite apologetic of the situation, as though she sees it a lot, and I asked her if there was anyone else I could talk to about it and she informed me that the man we were dealing with was actually the manager!
I asked if we could move to another table and let the new girl sit there instead, but he said no. After some negotiation he agreed to cancel the bottle of prosecco so that my two friends and I could leave, and the new girl was allowed to sit. Another of their friends was waiting at the front desk, so when we left we explained that we were leaving and so they could let this girl in now. The lady on the front desk replied with "are you from that table that shrieked?" and apparently, when we entered the bar, my friend had got a bit too excited to see people that she knew (she really did not make much fuss), and they don't condone that kind of behaviour in their establishment, and despite us leaving, they still wouldn't let the poor girl in!
I couldn't believe how rude the manager had been, he seemed to be on some weird pretentious power-trip. He was incredibly disrespectful, and from looking at the other reviews on here it seems it wasn't a one-off. I wouldn't usually mind if a bar was a touch pretentious or overpriced as long as the service was good, but customers here are treated like scum. Please don't grace them with your presence.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour by one of the members of staff.
My parents in their 50s were advised by myself to visit Boiler Maker last night, 22.12.14
On entering they saw some people they knew and waved and went to say hello. The woman rudely then said, are you with them. On response saying they did know them but weren't going to sit with them, the lady asked them to leave and said they weren't allowed a drink as the party they had waved at was already too large.
My father said that they didn't want to sit with them and if it made her happy they'd sit no where near them.
She rudely replied, no, sorry, you aren't allowed a drink now, can you leave! "Management orders on table size"
Despite the fact they didn't want to sit with them, but that was completely disregarded.
I don't know in what circumstances it is acceptable to be rude and demand a couple to leave so abruptly! Not only embarrassing for my mother and father, but disgustingly rude by whoever this employee is!
Absolutely absurd for someone in the hospitality industry to treat a customer this way for no reason.
Being a business owner in Hockley, (2 minutes from your bar) and part of the creative quarter I think the behaviour of your member of staff is atrocious and will no longer be offering recommendations.
Therefore, moving forward can you advise me on a time of which I can come in and speak to a manager/the owner in regards to this matter or if you'd prefer, I can send you the contact details of my parents, for you to speak to directly!
Terribly unhappy that my adorable parents were treated in this manner on a Monday night!

I have sent this as an email to the venue also - those that wish to track my activity on tripadvisor will see how rare it is for me to write a negative review!
As part of a birthday meal out, my husband and I stopped by last night. We expected to wait...and we did...20-30 minutes. We saw two sets of people go in ahead of us even though we were there before them, but we were told they had been outside smoking and just come back in, or they had a reservation.
But then a group of five went in ahead of us and because we had been talking to them in the queue, we knew they had no reason to go ahead. After asking the security guard why people were going ahead of us this time, he informed us that we were now LAST...after everybody that was currently waiting! That ALL the slightly larger parties of 3, 4, and 5 would be shown in before us as this is just "how we want it done"! We all said we didn't mind sharing / being seated at the bar...no difference.
We also saw a party of three who had reservations turned away as they had no record of it! The group owned a local coffee shop and seemed really upset - we heard that many of the team are currently away, via the security guard...nice communication there, and way to support your neighbouring small businesses!
So basically, the policy is to ignore who has actually been waiting first? Nice one - this spoilt part of my birthday. I wish them luck with any longevity in this venture if this is how they plan on treating customers, because pretty soon the novelty will be gone, and they will wish they hadn't mistreated smaller groups and locals.
If the boilermaker team are genuinely interested in customer experience and not just a quick earner while they can then they need to listen to this...if what I saw last night is indicative of their business model...then sort it out, because it's really shoddy.

A leg group of friends had been to a large sporting event and on getting to the boilermaker there was a reasonably large queue. As I was on my own I politely out my name down on the list and waited my turn to be let in. at one point the seemingly nice doorman asked who I was with and the party number, I had no idea how many were left in the party but was escorted through the doorway. I had not been out for very long and had had 2 glasses of wine but I was told that I appeared intoxicated and that I would be allowed in but was asked if I could not drink for half an hour bemused I accepted as I wanted to join up with my friends. After sitting down and being told there was table service and no one offering me a water or a soft drink I was met by a waitress who asked what I was doing at the bar. I said I'm waiting to be served. she said that I wasn't allowed a drink. I responded by telling her that I wanted a coke to high she said I needed to sit down and be served at the table. Despite not liking being ordered around I sat down for the allotted half an hour and at the end of this period as told I still wouldn't be served A drink. I've never experienced such a computerised big brother exoerience. Surely if I was indeed intoxicated the the simplest response would have been to tell me that I would not be allowed to come in to the establishment.
On telling the waitress that I felt I was being singled out because of my stammer and a misunderstanding that I was not intoxicated and certainly not even over the drink drive limit let alone drunk I was absolutly flabbergasted
I have neve ever been so humiliated in a Nottingham drinking establishment that boasts debauchery in its website.
What a massive fail on your customer services
And utterly disrespectful I usually tell a few people about good service in bars but I will make it my mission to spread the word about this shocking bar with its shocking lack of live music or a dj with its crap atmosphere hampered by fascist waiting staff
really spend your well earned cash elsewhere not with these pretentious provincial arsxholex

During a night out in Nottingham the Boiler Room had been recommended by a friend. At least I thought he was a friend, until he gave me this recommendation. When we arrived at the 'ironic' boiler clad entrance we were ignored as other people where let in. At first I wondered if any of my friends had been wearing 'tramps' shoes like Simon from the Inbetweeners, but it turned out we were all dressed in an appropriated manner. What we had had the audacity to do was go out on a Saturday night in a group of eight. Obviously the staff at the boiler room do not condone this sort of behaviour and admonished us for being such a large group. Apparently people In groups can move from table to table and cause a nussance. Or as we prefer to call it socialise. Although a sign stating their ' no moving around once inside policy' would have stopped us attempting to enter this palace of misery, instead they let us que and some jumped up twerp on the door eventually bothered to tell us their policy. As inevitably happens in this area, the uber cool bar of today is the empty shop front of tomorrow. I look forward to passing the boarded up frontage one day and musing to myself how pleased they would have been with a group of eight on those final days. My recommendation Ok if you are out on your own, wish to remain seated at all times and enjoy the feeling of pompus staff attempting to judge you.

I have been here quite a few times and never had a problem but unfortunately I was here last night with some friends - we were having a fantastic time, a few drinks, some giggling and lots of laughter, then we were approached my the rudest waiter Iv ever had the misfortune of facing! "We're not that sort of place guys!!!" Shocked that this is not the sort of place to have fun on a Friday night! We will not be returning and I will be telling all about our experience! Rude and pretentious!!!!

Hi,
We are visiting Nottingham on Saturday night and really want to go here! Can anyone recommend the best time to get there for a more likely chance of getting in? (as I see they don't take bookings)
Thanks :)

We showed up as group of 4 on a Saturday night around 7:30/8 and had to wait maybe 15-20 minutes. Groups of two got a table sooner. When you show up they can give you an idea of how long you may have to wait, so you can decide that way. :)
I have been trying to contact them by phone for the last 3 days but no answer. I believe I have left my hat behind me on Friday night 3rd November and just wonder whether anybody handed it in. I would appreciate a response please.
Hello,
Email is the best way to contact us for future reference. Our number isn’t on google search or our website as we don’t start work until 5pm and once we are open we can’t hear the phone over all the cocktails being shaken! As a result it doesn’t really get used.
If you could email in details of when you visited/lost your hat and a member of the management team will be able to assist.
Trip Advisor won’t allow me to post an our email address but it can be found on our website.
Many thanks
