CARRIAGE DRIVING LESSON
What an amazing experience this was. Despite my love for horse riding my love for eating and hate of exercise means I am too heavy to go horse riding. Thankfully Gail suggested trying carriage driving instead and what an experience it was.
Learning how to harness and hook the horse to the carriages was mind blowing, so much that I even forgot how to put a bridle on (how embarrassing!).
Gail was very patient giving me instructions and didn't punish me too much when I inadvertently tried to get the horse to go faster by whipping the reins!! Never done it before but must have come from watching too many westerns on TV. I managed to stop myself doing it again but the eagle-eyed Gail noticed each aborted move.
I managed to steer around the many ramblers around the Cresswell Caves and must have been doing a reasonable job as one family asked where they could get on the carriage for a ride – they may not have been so keen if I had L plates on.
It was a fabulous experience and was lovely be around horses again. I have some other experiences to try out to celebrate my 60th but this is one I will certainly be returning to. Gail – I will even try making that weird telephone noise you make.
Thank you again for an amazing time, Can certainly recommend this activity to all but especially to those like me who love being around horses but are too heavy to ride.

My Daughter rides here weekly and has come on so much in the space of a year! We had her party here and all hervfriends that attended loved every minute of it. We have taken various family members for treks who have all enjoyed their experience. All the staff are lovely and welcoming and very knowledgeable. I like yhatvthey have young adults helping out as it gains them valuable experience in a safe environment.

Enjoyable carriage experience. Nice to learn about the different harnesses and carriages etc. Knowledgeable and patient staff. Lovely out in the Cregs on a sunny day. We were given alot of help on where to stay and eat near by which was also very useful as we were not from the area. My partner did a lesson and hack whilst I did the carriage experience which he enjoyed as only a beginner. The young girl that took him out for the hack was a lovely chatty girl which made it more comfortable for him. Rather than sitting in silence.
My only slight criticism would be that as its a very busy riding centre, the lady who was giving me the experience was in demand all the time and we were interrupted on numerous occasions even when we were in the middle of talking. I appreciate it's busy centre with alot of young girls needing help but after the first couple of times it came across as rude. Also we paid extra for prosecco on the ride which we never received/ did together. We did get an apology and told we would get the prosecco free next time (even though we paid for it?) so would have been nice to have been offered a refund on the bubbles.

Having been here 5 years ago my friend and I were looking forward to a nice hack in lovely surroundings. Unfortunately our previous experience was not met and fell a very long way short. Our 3 hour hack was quite frankly the worst riding experience I have ever paid for. I have ridden and owned my own horses for over 50 years so although I don’t consider myself the best or the bravest I am more than competent. We spent an hour riding out on tracks and roads, an hour walking around a “park” and an hour back the same way. We had no canters and just a handful of short canters. The mare I was riding decided she was wanting to go a bit quicker and “bolted” when I wasn’t expecting it; although alarmed, I wasn’t unseated and regained control but I did exclaim my surprise to which I was shouted at by our guide with “ I told you to stay behind” . My friend who is also very experienced and her mare really wasn’t up for the job and was very slow and behind the leg. Our guide was very young and really had no skill in making the guests feeling welcome and valued and added nothing to the quite terrible experience. We will not be returning and will not be recommending this riding establishment which is a shame considering our experience 5 years ago,

having enjoyed coloured cob 3hr hack i invited two friends to accompany me this time around.Arriving well before our time slot ,this was not a problem and was dealt with straight away, which gave us time to browse the small shop which was very reasonably priced . A very busy stable yard ,again we were soon on board our horses and went for the assessment ,we understand the importance of getting the correct horse for the hack .One of the horses was just not right for us even though i had ridden her the time before this time, another horse was found ,quickly and was soon on board another, this is horses and people for you things change. We enjoyed the hack ,the scenery is amazing the horses settled and so responsive and such a joy..
We all came away with large smiles ,we will be back .. we just wished we lived closer ,we felt this stable had a lot to offer great areas to learn and hacks out ..

Written by my Girlfriend: "My boyfriend surprised me with a couples trek and carriage ride for my birthday. From beginning to end it was such a lovely experience. Our guides (Kennedy and Caitlin) were fantastic. Such young women, but so mature and professional. They took the time to answer every question we had and were always in control of the horses. I was very impressed. Needless to say, the scenery was perfect and the horses were gorgeous as well. The carriage ride was very romantic and I couldn't recommend it enough. It comes with a bottle of prosecco and you're made to feel very special. The owner Gale, is so warm and passionate about the work she and the rest of the staff do and I'm so grateful to her for helping my boyfriend arrange such a memorable afternoon. If you're thinking of making a visit, don't think twice!"

I purchased the riding experience lesson through Groupon for my niece for passing her exams. My sister and Mum ended up also purchasing the offer and we thought it would be a great experience for us all to enjoy.
Gail was so helpful right from the beginning when we first booked in over the phone and she allowed extra time as the offer was only valid for a few months, she allowed us the extra time so we didn’t miss the offer. Gail made our experience very personable and very entertaining.
We laughed and laughed and the riding tutor was very patient with our group. She was brilliant and supportive, guided us with great advice and made the lesson fun and interesting. The helpers who were leading the horses all joined in on our laughter too which made this a very special experience for us all.
The horses / ponies all were very calm and well looked after and we were told some were rescued horses which we thought was lovely.
We will definitely be back and booking in with Gail for the trekking and carriage drive soon.
As my Mum quoted, ‘I haven’t laughed like that in ages!’
A very good afternoon experience and well worth the visit.
Thankyou Gail and your team 👍😆

We have been riding at CCEC for 5 years the welfare and treatment of the horses is the centres priority at all times, and having spent many a day on the yard with my daughter over the last 5 years we have never been greeted with nothing but kindness and friendship. My daughter has gained valuable skills which will follow her throughout her life, and she has been supported fully by the centre. The riding instructors are fabulous. The proprietor Sharon is extremely knowledgeable and friendly and nothing is to much trouble. All the staff, volunteers and helpers are polite, pleasant and friendly. If you are looking for a riding school which offers treks, pony club, activity days and puts animal welfare at the top of its priority’s for your child or yourself then this is the place.

Excellent all round. Lovely staff, well cared for and loved horses. I was shown and participated in fitting the harness and driving two very different carriages and all with a very experienced coach by my side. What a lovely way to see Cresswell Crags. Check out their Web site, they do so much, it's a busy happy yard.

Visited for my daughters birthday and did a one hour pony trek with 2 adults and 2 children. The lasses put us all completely at ease and were absolutely amazing throughout. The horses were extremely well behaved and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks to Kenadey for looking after me as I was very nervous to begin with :)
