firstly the good bits. I applaud both the venue and the band (Dead South) for putting on this show, and the fact there is a car park behind the venue - which you obviously have to pay to use. That is where the good bits end.
The venue and ticket both advised that this was a Standing only gig, but when I arrived (I travelled from Stoke), which was not late, the place was already jam packed. I have no problem with Standing only, but it was seriously overcrowded and there was no way of getting a good view . You need to be very tall.
It comprises of a main floor, which is great if you are just going for a dance and only need to hear music, rather than hear live music and to see the band. There is a balcony, but again, unless you get there very early and find ways of never leaving your spot, then you are in for a neck bending night on tiptoes.
Unfortunately the only way I managed to actually physically see the band was by standing half way up a stairway and crouching down as well as having other revellers constantly go past. This, due to the layout of the club, led to the sound being absolutely terrible. The vocals became incoherent and the sound of the bass bounced off every wall surface and was too dominant.
The other really negative aspect is that the club is 100% disabled non-friendly. My partner is in a wheelchair and just would not have got in. In this day and age that is really poor and they seriously need to look at that. Not surprisingly I won't be returning in a hurry.

My husband and I came on Saturday to watch the Sigala concert. Where do I start?! It's full of unsupervised 14 year old kids that have no respect for others, shoving in to you, elbowing you and being damn right disrespectful with their mouths! When the bouncers were informed of such behavior they couldn't give a sh*t and claimed nothing they can do! Literally wtf! Toilets absolutely filthy! Yet again they weren't bothered about a flooded cubicle and dirty tampons scattered around! Drinks reasonably priced for this kid of thing, £4.70 pint of San Miguel. Would we go again? Not a chance! Unless they make it strictly adults or supervised kids, deep cleaned the place and replaced the bouncers!

We entered the queue line for the entrance to Rock City on 30th October at approximately 3am. Semi-sober, just looking for somewhere to finish our night out. Upon entering the queue and asking if we can buy tickets, we were very bluntly told "no". When we asked why, we were told they were closing and no one else was going in. Turns out, they were refusing entry for us, but allowing their friends to go in. When confronted with this, we had nothing but abuse spat at us. I quote "you both need to get a multi gym membership and start going to the gym on Monday". When I asked what is that meant to mean, he proceeded to tell me and my friend that our size 10 selves are "fat". The vile comments proceeded to be spewed out when I said he has a disgusting attitude to which he replied "do yourself a favour and go and kill yourself". I asked if he wanted me to commit suicide and he said "yes, please do".

Young man, maybe early 20s. Couldn't look me in the eye, probably when he realised I wasn't actually drunk and acting out of character. He was then backed up by 3 other security men trying to then intimidate me and my friend whilst unable to justify these comment nor acknowledge it was wrong.

I would avoid this place at all costs. We were recommended it but I wouldn't trust the security. I understand they're subject to a lot of abuse over the night but I'm not surprised when that's the reaction we get when leaving the queue after asking if we can get tickets.

Disgusting, vile and utterly horrific attitude to carry in life.

Usually rock city is bangin but we were in the black cherry lounge and they cancelled our drinks orders after 30 mins. The woman at the bar screamed at me because my mask wasn’t on the second I left my table, we had 2 tables next to eachother as mates and we were naturally talking to eachother (same household) and they kept telling us to turn around and stop talking. Eventually they said we’re not serving you and cancelled our orders and so we had to leave. Joke of an experience. The woman was “at risk” so was getting irritated at us, but why was she working at rock city if she was at “high risk”? Half of us had our vaccines anyway and she was so rude to me when I politely was talking to her I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Shocking experience. Went to Pryzm in the end and had a great last night of second year uni.

When we arrived the four of us got put on a two man table, we were squeezed in next to another Group of four. We were so cramped in my elbows kept hitting the person from the other group of four. Didn’t feel safe at all, and none of the staff wore Ppe or not even a mask including the bouncers. Then our drinks took 1 hour to arrive...not ideal when you only have 2hrs in there. Disappointing when normally it’s always a good night out.

OK as a gig venue but a dreadful club. Rock city is no longer a rock club. It is full of very young people. Many looked under age for the venue. The main room plays dance and mainstream pop music, one of the smaller rooms plays R&B and the smallest room plays metal. I went with my partner for a drink straight after the gig at the venue. We were therefore in the club just as it opened. We sat and watched as it filled up with young kids. Definitely not the place for anyone who is much over 18. It feels like a school disco. We finished our drinks and left.
I remember when Rock city was a great rock club with a mix of age ranges and a great variety of rock and metal music. It's very sad to see it having gone down hill so badly.

The security staff also seemed absolutely clueless. They didn't seem to know what was happening when the gig section closed and the club was opening. Different people told us different things. One guy said just stay in the venue and get a drink and another told us to go outside and queue up to get back in and was forcibly ushering us to the door! Dread to think what would happen in this place if there were something like a fire. It would be chaos. Doesn't feel welcoming or safe and just isn't an enjoyable place to visit. AVOID. As we discovered there are many other great bars and clubs in Nottingham so give a Rock City miss.

Rebel Rebel on the Saturday was good in terms of the atmosphere and drinks which are always reasonably priced (2.70 for a single and mixer). Relatively easy to get served at the bar, only downside was that it was far too hot inside and the music seemed to go downhill after 1am.

However we returned for Crisis and what a change! Music stayed consistent and great all night, air conditioning on creating a lovely temperature and really easy to get served. Fantastic night.

The idea was great and the atmosphere was good once the place filled out but you'd be better off going to a bar. You can't get up and dance to the music but you also can't really talk to your friends since its loud. Also there is no DJ, only a playlist of top hits.

The worst part was our drinks kept getting picked up by the wrong bar and being sent to a table outside, I told one of the waitresses and explained that we were actually ordering to the correct table and then she proceeded to be rude to us, I know it wasn't her fault that the drinks were going to the wrong place but she didn't even try to help. It was frustrating that it was out of our control (it turned out it was the bar staff who weren't checking the orders to see if the tables were inside or outside) but the staff could have controlled it by scanning the receipt codes in the app when they bring the orders out. The problems with the ordering kind of ruined the night and made it hard to enjoy since every time we ordered we couldn't be sure it would get to us.

If you still wan to go and have a good night I'd recommend getting really drunk before you arrive.

Only two criticisms. I'm 56 and standing up for 2 hours I could have done without. The bouncers should really have dealt with the four drunks who just shouted at each other spoiling it for everyone else. The show was good. The venue was clean and tidy. Drinks were reasonable. Plenty of toilets. Easy to get in or out. Easy to drive to. Easy to park.

Me and my partner went to see Devin Townsend here, and first let me state that Devin himself was phenomenal, and this is NOT a review of him. He was 10/10 in every sense.

The reason it was terrible is the people there. I'm not from Nottingham, but have heard people going on about Rock City like it's some sort of metal mecca and one of the best in the country. The venue itself is a bog standard metal venue, indistinguishable from the sorts of venues you get anywhere else in the country. I've done a lot in Birmingham, so it wasn't awful, but nothing special either. But my God, the people of Nottingham are the most obnoxious, loud mouthed, disgusting bunch I've ever met. The entire gig we had the locals surrounding us, half of them on their phones, scrolling through facebook, the other half paraletically drunk, and ALL of them shouting loudly to each other through the entire set, to the point of near constant distraction from the act. The only nice people we met were people with strong accents from other parts of the country. It's a shame, Nottingham seems like a nice city, but the crowd in Rock City were vile and obnoxious. Would never go there again.
