On our first visit, to see the lovely Mary Chapin Carpenter, we experienced 2 for the price of one: a great show (especially from openers Applewood Road) combined with an unexpected sauna!! Granted it was a very hot day (30C) and we were told the aircon was on but the circle became like the Black Hole of Calcutta!! I have... More

We watched a show which our granddaughter was dancing in. It was excellent.. We have been here a few times and throughly enjoyed the experience, however we were very disappointed in the price of the drinks and the lack of choice which seems very unfair when you have a captive audience especially at the interval!

Went to see a family member in an end of year show. Firstly parking with a blue badge was easy. Collection of tickets was a little hard but we came out good in the end. We had five tickets in total but one had been booked over the phone at the last minute. When we arrived we were told that... More

Great place to see a show. Staff warm & friendly. Prices for show very good. Bit expensive on drink's & snacks, but mostly average. Grumpy old women, really funny show. Interval, should really have had more staff, due to a full house. Would we go again yes.

We have watched shows here and 3 of my children have been involved in shows here. A more intimate venue than Theatre Royal, Concert Hall or Motorpoint Arena but that is at the centre of its charm. Central location, great bar and restaurant on site, indoor and outdoor seating for food and drink, sleek sculpture outside. Only slight downside is... More

The playhouse is a modern theatre and they have some great plays on as well as a yearly panto. It has comfy seats and friendly staff. It has a restraunt and bar attached and is 5 mins walk from the market square but also there is lots of on street parking ( pay at machines) there is also a few... More

Went to see Owen Jones' 'Politics of Hope' at the beginning of the year. Pre-show atmosphere was great. Drink prices weren't extortionate like other venues, and most people had something to consume in their hands. Although busy, there was enough space to manoeuvre your way past people. In other words, it wasn't rammed like a tin of sardines. The theatre... More

This is a lovely theatre with a great vibe. Mid-century modern which has worn its 50 plus years very well indeed. Very welcoming staff, great auditorium and, in our case another brilliant production - "Noises Off" which was a riot! Personally I avoid the bar after one of the worst coffees ever served with indifference on a previous visit (customer... More

We had a great evening at the Playhouse watching Michael Frayn's play 'Noises Off'. It was absolutely hilarious - especially the frenetic second act. Well staged - still can't believe those scene changes - and brilliant acting. Thoroughly enjoyed it and laughed so much, I had tears on my face. The theatre is as lovely as ever, with great facilities... More
