I love the theatre, and try to go often, to support the arts, but to watch something live, there is nothing quite like it. This week I want to give kudos to the Nottingham Playhouse which I have loved attending.

I have seen musicals there that have been better than the Theatre Royal, laughed along at shows, and also, rather strangely watched a shot by shot remake of the film Dawn of the Dead with real actors as the film played... amazing!

This relatively small theatre does things well, it has struggled through covid like the rest of us, but come out on top returning to relative normality recently. Do yourself a favour, and book a show now.

Excuse the rubbish photo, was take ahead of the No Such Thing As A Fish podcast, last week!

Fascinating

We just came to look at the sky mirror, which is just outside the playhouse.
We were impressed and took a few photos, worth a walk up the hill from the castle. Nice park next door.

Excellent Quality Theatre in central Nottingham
Dec 2019
Regular programme of great theatre and talks etc. Comfy seats and good views of all shows. Good quality seats and acting. Worth becoming a member if you are going to visit regularly. Bar with meals available. Good place to take children.

Ludicrous way to treat loyal customers! Refused tickets cos we want 2, not 3 !!!
Sep 2019 • Couples
Tried to buy tickets for January 2020 (Stewart Lee Wednesdayeve) and told I can't have the 2 tickets I want because we'll leave a single seat next to us. Friday and Saturday have largely only single seat availabilty so obviously they DO leave single seats. They absolutely refused to let us have 2 of the only 3 seats remaining on that row and suggested we sit several rows further back or 'wait until nearer the date when we may be able to let you have them' Its almost sold out!!! I've been a customer at playhouse for many years but this bloody-mindedness has lost them a customer. A ludicrous way to treat loyal customers!

Disappointing experience!
Sep 2019
A disappointing experience on two levels.

Firstly, the Playhouse and some of its staff seem very tired. The lower floor and upstairs seating areas are like a wasteland with lacklustre surrounds and hardly any seating. When we collected our tickets, the male assistant could hardly be bothered; a smile wouldn't go amiss! The theatre appears to be on its last legs!

Secondly, the production of 'An Enemy of the People' was poor. The modern translation of Ibsen's work and the strained attempt to relate it to our modern social issues, especially Brexit and populism, the overuse of four-letter expletives, a leading actress who shouted her lines out as if we were all hard of hearing, fluffing lines in the process, and the incoherency of the concluding scenes made the entire production very flawed. The only saving grace was Malcolm Sinclair's menacing portrayal of the mayor.

Poor experience all round!

Lovely theatre
Sep 2019 • Couples
Me and my partner went to watch A Enemy of the People starring Alex Kingston and what a lovely theatre this is. We were in the stalls and can say you have plenty of room and a great view of the stage I would recommend this theatre. Also hats off to the staff.

Excellent vintage nostalgia
Sep 2019
We really enjoyed our first visit to the Nottingham Playhouse. We had great seats in the circle and looking around I think any seat upstairs would be good. Very comfortable, plenty of legroom, we'll definitelt look out for other shows here.

Cast Bar. Rude awful. minus 10.
Aug 2019
Sorry to the theatre for a one star that affects you but the reviews for Cast are closed. The young bloke behind the bar with the beard was just incredibly rude and made me me feel in the way, I visited on 29.08.19. The bar was practically empty. I had come to meet a friend in rehearsals and was shocked at the dismissive attitude I encountered as soon as I walked in, the barman saw me and immediately turned his back.. If he doesnt want to work there get another job.. His unsmiling blase attitude as he turned to sneer the words 'what can I get you' was embarrassing. My comment of how warm the bar was also was met with a sneer as he turned his back to me. I said 'I guess you have heard that before then this day?' 'Exactly' was his complacent drone comment. He looked at me with utter contempt as he gave me the wine I ordered. He works in an interesting and diverse venue that is a credit to Nottingham. He is not. Theatre is about split second timing. Only great teams of people can accomplish this. He has a great big I in his issues.

Sister Act "the musical"
Jul 2019 • Friends
Went with friends and family bto see the Spotlight production of this fantastic musical. What a great show hard to believe these were amatuer actors. The whole cast we're brilliant. The show was a credit to the director, choreographer and musical director.
We all left having laughed and cried with big smiles on our faces...
To add to this the theatre is one of the best in the country for accessibility and comfort.
Added to this the entertainment of a steel band and brass band pre and post show on the piazza outside the theatre. It made for the perfect afternoon
