A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

I've lived in Nottingham all my life and so know what to expect but I always feel a hint of embarrassment if asked about Nottingham Castle by visitors. IT ISN'T A CASTLE. It's a rather depressing manor house built after the last building burnt down. Because it's run by the local council it lacks direction or anything resembling excitement or... More

Beautiful architecture and gardens, wonderful exhibitions combining the live in classic works with contemporary traveling exhibitions. Nottingham Castle feels like you are stepping out of the city, it is very cultural and offers student discount as well as free events throughout the year.

Really a nice place to visit. Beautiful grounds and paintings. Friendly staff. There is an additional tour of the caves in the Castle. It is worth the extra to taake the tour.

I went here especially to see the connection between nottingham castle and William Cavendish 1st Duke of Newcastle and I wasn't disappointed. The remaining house is so typically Cavendish style architecture. The museum was very informative and interactive and the art gallery was lovely. A really lovely visit.

Over the years have been here many times, went last week to some paintings about an old local factory. Sadly there was only a few. Although I like the "Castle" have always thought it big let down for visitors to the city. It should be renamed Nottingham Manor house,as these days anything else claiming something & not being what it claims... More

As we approached the castle site all the road signs indicated we were heading for "Nottingham Castle". How disappointed we were when we arrived, paid to go in and find that it was burnt down in the early 1800s due to the lack of political reform. All that is there now is a grassed area of where the castle used... More

Lots to do and see in the castle. The art gallery on the top floor was not to be missed. The costume section interested me the most and on a warm summers day the gardens were beautiful to walk around.

We were disappointed by the castle as we thought it would show how people lived in the olden days and we could see the rooms etc and maybe cellars .... The castle was mainly art and fairly boring things to view and the parking isn't great ... The Robin Hood statue near the bottom is good for a photo though... More

A good museum with a nice tour which can only be recommended to take as the man making the tour really lives up in it and dress up which is nice :-)
