A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

This attraction is more a museum of Nottingham and local art than a castle. It is said that it is built on the ruins of the actual castle, from which a part of the wall still remains. It is in a beautiful location with a great view. The exhibits mainly tell the story of the great fire that destroyed Nottingham.... More

The castle was a treat to visit, unfortunately the gardens were closed on our visit, I believe there was preparation being done for the Robin Hood pageant. However we did manage to view some of the gardens from the castle walls. A vast structure that obviously is doused in history, inside the museum was extremely knowledgeable and laid out very... Having been to visit my grandparents in nearby bingham it was nice to finally go in the castle. I should have done my research a bit more as there was a beer festival going on so we couldnth see the grounds! Interesting trip.

I visited Nothingham Castle besides a business trip. The Museum is quite worth a visit - especially the paintings gallery and the Da Vinci exhibition. Don't miss the tour through the interesting sand caves including fantastic and horrific historical stories!

I paid £7 to enter at the front gate, I was told that the gardens were not open and I asked to make sure that the caves were still open because I really wanted to see them, I was told yes the caves were still open. I had a look at the art gallery museum which I think is mainly... More

From one who has been brought up on tales of Robin Hood the building was not at all what I had imagined. I had quite expected to see the Sheriff of Nottingham peer down from the battlements, but no, there is no mediaeval castle. Rather, an Italianate palace now sits on what was a castle. Set just off the city... More

Definitely recommend a visit here if you're in Nottingham. Such history. I think it's £7 for an annual pass, which is the same price for a one day admission.

We visited on Saturday and paid full admission. The grounds were obscured by a beer festival and half the exhibition space was closed to the public. Very unhappy with our visit.

Very poor. They should have knocked the house down in 1831, and left it as the rock where the castle once stood. Disjointed, poorly signed, looks more like a bric-a-brac sale room. There was an exhibition about the riot of 1831, but all a bit disorganised, there were iPads hanging up, lord knows what for, as they didn't seem to... More
