The Old Market Square, or Slab Square as it is also known, is a 12,000 square metre pedestrianised public square located in the very heart of Nottingham City. The square dates back to the 11th Century until 1928 when it was redeveloped and reduced in size by about 50%. In 2005 construction began of a new design for the Market Square, a project that cost £17M and concluded with the new 'Old Market Square' opening in March 2007. Many events take place in the market square and it is a popular place for public demonstrations and for socialising. The Market Square skyline is dominated at one end by the landmark domed Council House building, a Grade II listed building dating back to 1927. Particularly attractive when luminated at night.…

This was a great atmosphere, there was a mini fair on the square with food and drink stools. There was a covid protest going on but police made sure they were still following rules.

A great focal point in the centre of the city that seems to be used for a lot of events- there was something on when I visited. The centre of the city is quite hilly, so this is a pleasant place to stop for a minute if needed!

The Old Market Place is a really nice square in the centre of Nottingham. It is served by buses and trams from the suburbs. When I visited there was a fair there for the summer holidays. It's also very close to the shopping area. There are lots of restaurants on the edge of the square and there are places to sit and relax and enjoy the weather and the view.…
