This place is a gem!!
Nov 2021 • Couples
Me and my wife found this place by accident……we were heading home from a day in Nottingham so thought we’d pop in for a quick pint before heading home……..4 pints and a few hours later and we were still there which says it all!! Beer was excellent, great atmosphere and varied music in the background…….but the staff are an absolute delight!! Friendly, engaging, efficient…….when we visit Nottingham again we’ll search this place out (I know it wasn’t too far from the station!) and go back 🙏🍻

Awesome pub
Aug 2021 • Friends
My twin brother Stephen and I dropped into this pub as its a particular favourite of ours whenever we are in Nottingham.
Love the look of this pub ,its located just past St Nicholas Church ( St Nic's ) , the interior is superb, whitewashed walls,a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, nice wall art ,pubby decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout the pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling streets around this pub, there's been a pub on this spot since 1799 ,the pub we see today dates from the 1930's ,its just one really good pub.
We were here on a Monday afternoon, we were greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of the bar team, we chose for our drinks Strongbow dark fruit cider, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in.
My cider was really good, a tasty, effervescent cider that on a hot afternoon certainly cut through the thirst, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality cider.
We really enjoyed our ciders in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The Royal Children Pub we were totally impressed.
The Royal Children Pub is easy to locate along Maid Marian Way.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday, Midday till 11pm.
A wonderful pub, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Royal Children on Castle street is a fantastic pub that offers a great range of beers and is one of Nottingham's oldest pubs.
Housed in a fantastic building'the Royal Children dates from 1799 and get's it's name from Princess Anne's children who took refuge in this Inn.
The Royal Children was rebuilt in the early 1930s and has many interesting features and plenty of good seating options throughout the pub interior and was the first pub we visited on a five day city break to Nottingham.
When we visited in the afternoon on July the 19th all lockdown restrictions had been lifted and this pub was very busy and for the first time in ages I went to the bar and ordered a few drinks.
When here we ordered a few glasses of fruit cider from the Strongebow brewery which were served in perfect condition and very refreshing and well priced.
The Royal Children is a superb pub and is worth a visit as it's an historic old pub and the staff where very friendly and is very easy to locate from Maid Marion Way bus stop its a minute walk.(This is my first review of the Royal Children).
Opening Hours.
Monday-Sunday-12.00-23.00.
Nearest Bus Stop.

AVOID

If you like a pub full of drugs this is a place to go. Dirty toilets and pub in general. Will be served half measures to ensure stock take is lower. Enter at your own risk

Stumbled in and Stayed

To be honest we were looking for a different pub down the street and kept hearing good loud music from a block away .

They were cranking John Denver‘s Take Me Home Country Road, and 75 people inside were singing at the top of their lungs

we were the only Americans in there for three hours and felt like we were part of their family within minutes

I didn’t catch his name but the DJ was the best most hilarious one we’ve ever seen

make this a stop on your next trip to Nottingham

Great pub.

My twin brother Stephen and I had jumped the train down from Liverpool to have a six day break in Nottingham and after our near 3 hour train journey we grabbed a quick bite to eat in a McDonald's then headed to our hotel to check in ,as we were heading to The Premier Inn we decided to drop into here for a quick beer as we were in need of a drink and what a start to our trip to Nottingham this pub proved.
Reading up about this pub proved very informative, it's one of Nottinghams oldest pubs with the earliest references to the pub being recorded in 1799 so the pub has some serious history attached to it.
The pub itself is superb,a beautiful timbered exterior, the interior is very simple,a big single roomed pub with nice decor and furnishings including a cool looking serving bar and a pool table, there's some interesting features in this pub particularly the displayed whale bones on the walls ,it's just one really good pub, the type of pub I feel at home in .
We were here on a Wednesday, we got here at about midday as the pub was just opening so we were about the first customers of the day so we could really appreciate what a great looking pub this is.
The young lady serving was really pleasant, greeted us warmly, after a quick study of the real ales on offer we both opted to have Castle Rock Brewery " pale ale " these were served in absolutely pristine condition, we just chilled out and took in the great pub we were in.
My pale ale was just so good, this is one of the main real ales in Nottingham, Castle Rock Brewery is justifiably famous for its great real ales and our real ale was just so good, light, hoppy and very easy to drink.
We really enjoyed our real ales in here and although we only stayed for the one real ale each before we moved on to check into our hotel for a first time visit we were very impressed with The Royal Children Pub.
The Royal Children Pub is easy to locate on Castle Gate.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday,Midday till 11pm.
A wonderful pub serving great beers and most definitely well worth checking out.

Visited in December to take non-Forest friends for a visit, its a real traditional English pub bound in Forest loyalty, good choices of alcohol, average pub in a competitive Nottingham city centre but long may it be there.
