Had a truly brilliant caving trip with Al. Knowledgable, skilled and gave us exactly the experience we were looking for- which for us was to give us a challenge! However, I’ve no doubt that an instructor with the skills that Al has could cater to the needs of any group. We had such a great time we may even try and join a caving club- thank you Al!

We booked on a 2 day outdoor climbing course. We had done alot of indoor climbing in the past, and wanted to transfer our skills to the outdoors. Our instructor Ed was fantastic, so enthusiastic and keen to share his knowledge with us. After the course, we both feel much more confident climbing outdoors. Would definitely recommend this company to our friends!

We booked the 1 day beginners climbing course as we are both new to climbing generally. We had Chris as our instructor and he took the time to find out our level of competence and what we wanted to gain from the course, completely customer lead. I think we both took away from the course what we wanted and aim to put into practise what we have learnt. We will definitely be booking again in the spring to push our knowledge and climbing experience. Great day, thanks to Al for organising it.

What an amazing day abseiling and caving. It was great day out for the family. Al is an excellent guide. He is knowledgeable, accommodating and patient. You feel 100% safe no matter your ability or experience. We explored Giant's Cave which is accessible for first timers like us. It was a real adventure and my boys 10 and 13 could not get enough. We have lived near the Peak District for over 20 years and explored every corner of it, or so I had thought. I did not appreciate the extent of the cave systems and now I have an appetite for more. I will be booking more trips with Al at Gritstone in the near future.

We booked the two day “learn to lead” course with Al a couple of weeks ago, and he managed to fit us in at really short notice to suit our availability. We’re a couple of boulderers, with a bit of sports climbing experience, who wanted to learn how to trad climb so that we could explore more of what the Peak District has to offer. Our instructor for the two days was Daryl, who was very friendly and had an excellent knowledge of the area. He already had a good plan of where to take us to teach us the basics, with a load more ideas in mind depending on the weather and our progress. Over the two days he taught us everything we needed to know to go out trad climbing by ourselves - Route picking and assessment, gear selection and placement, building of belay anchors, top and bottom belay techniques, abseiling techniques, as well as improving our climbing by encouraging more planning and self reflection. Plus lots of other little tips and bits of information that would have taken ages for us to learn by ourselves. Overall we had a brilliant two days, and since then we’ve been back out at every opportunity to put the new skills to use. We’re both now confidently leading easy trad routes, and looking forward to practicing what we’ve learned so we can book a multi-pitch course next year! We highly recommend this course, just two days of instruction has safely opened up a whole new world to us.
