This is a brilliant little museum in a fabulous building. Where else can you see a purpose built gaol (or 'jail' if you want the more modern/American spelling) that is nearly 700 years old?! The border between Scotland and England was a place of turbulance...More

Firstly, Hexham is a great place! The local council should be applauded for the plentiful free parking by the Leisure Centre and the 'Eat Hexham' boxes dotted around town (and outside here) where you can help yourself to vegetables and herbs. I wish our local...More

i liked the dispaly on the ground floor about 'what is a crime?' because i could see how crimes diffre between time periods. the dungeon was cool and you had to get in the lift to go to the dungeon.

Really nice little museum with a very interesting history to tell. The young lad giving the introduction talk was excellent and the building is worth a visit in its own right.

Billed as the old gaol was expecting a bit of character but in reality was a bit sterile, too clean, too light and was only one room on the ground floor and a dungeon which you only see from a lift so you don't 'feel...More

The Border History Museum is well presented in a historic building near the center of Hexham. Although the exhibits are engaging it is a bit short on substance--not the place to learn everything you'd like to know about the Border Reivers. Much better interpretation of...More
