We visited the gaol on a recent visit to Hexam and found it very interesting. Steeped in history it was a fine opportunity to look back centuries into how the local miscreants and sheep/cattle rustlers were treated awaiting their day with the judge.

Very interesting and informative, lift access to all the floors as well. There is dressing up for the kids, but as I have a small head, all the hats fitted me as well.

Very well presented tableaux with good aural explanations and stories to interest all ages. I declined to sit in the stocks or dress up but others would love it. Not knowing much about the Reivers or Border Marches this was the best part for me....More

We really enjoyed this visit. There was so much interesting information here. Well worth a visit whether you have children or not. Dressing up for all. So much history in one place.

Plenty of information on how the gaol operated and various other aspects of Hexham life. Not that large, but the detail given is impressive, and it is given in a very accessible manner.

This is not an all-day visit, as it is fairly small, hence not 5 stars, but it's not expensive, as I thought it would be. There are dressing up clothes, and we had fun with them! Well worth a visit
