It was lovely to revisit the scene of my greatest academic achievement. Outside is even more stunning, especially as the artificial light illuminates so much more. Inside an historic and wonderfully maintained reminder of our past.

I'm sorry I know this won't help you but it might help someone else in a similar situation. Parking outside the Guildhall is on meter and at times difficult to come across. Best to drop people off if you're not going in with them and park elsewhere. There's no coffee shop at the Guildhall but there is a place to sit on the comfy sofas and high quality bathrooms if you need to wait.
