78 Derngate is the only house in England designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

It is now a multi award-winning visitor attraction offering an unforgettable day out in Northampton.

Designed and remodelled by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1916, the house has been meticulously restored and opened to the public. On site: a boutique restaurant, light-filled art galleries, a stylish design shop and elegant spaces that can be hired for meetings, events and functions.

78 Derngate was the architect's final major commission; his visionary patron, Northampton model engineer, W.J Bassett-Lowke. It is the only place in the world where Mackintosh's mature architectural and interior style can be seen in their original setting. As such, the house has drawn many thousands of visitors from around the globe. Now you can follow in their footsteps and see this unique work from one of Britain's most influential and celebrated designers.

Been meaning to make the trip down the M1 for a while after visiting the Glasgow School of Art on a Charles Rennie Mackintosh pilgrimage. We weren't disappointed at all. This is a very well made attraction and the purchase if the adjoining houses means that you don't feel cramped. Special mention for our tour guide who was very well... More

I took my son last year as he was studying art at GCSE and wanted to be an architect. We had an organised tour which was really interesting. Learnt a lot and enjoyed ourselves. Would recommend it for anyone who likes history and design. The ticket we bought on the day lasted a year so we could go back again... More

This was a present and wow how filling. We had to book and the service was quick and staff friendly. The food was first class and we had to bring home some cake as we were so full. A most enjoyable occasion.

We first visited this wonderful venue soon after it was opened. Since then we have returned to share the experience with family, friends, visitors etc. If you are familiar with Charles Rennie Macintosh you will be entranced by his contribution to this place, if you are interested in local history and in particular the Bassett- Loakes family or if Art... Fabulous little gem. Breathtaking seeing Mackintosh's ideas and that almost 100 years ago all the mod cons. Guides and staff so friendly and knowledgeable. Fabulous documentation in the rooms for those not on a tour - including a large type version. And discount if a member of English heritage.

A nice little find and if you can get on the tour which lasts around 45 minutes you will be enlightened with knowledge all about Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Your ticket can be used again through out the year. Every one who visits gets a free pair of blue suede shoes. OK not really suede.
