    Healthy Music.
Went to see The Manfreds, last night. Great music from the sixties, excellent show. Deserved the standing ovation at the end. Big shout out for Abi, who took care of us, & our wheelchair. Even ensuring we are OK, at the interval. Guidance on seating for wheelchair users was most welcome. As Paul, said on stage, Music has health benefits, it releases endorphins. Long may the music continue at the Derngate.

    Great Theatre
Went to the theatre to watch Uncanny. A really good theatre with lots of atmosphere. Small in size, but perfect for shows, with the audience right near the stage. We were sat in the 2nd tier and had a perfect view. All the staff were friendly, directing us to our seats and ensuring everyone had a good time.

    Sixx was amazing
I recently went to this theatre to watch the musical sixx. The theatre is located close to the town centre with plenty of car parking nearby. On arrival, staff were all very friendly and helpful. We got in with no issues. I didn't purchase any refreshments; mainly as this performance had no interval. The performance itself was absolutely amazing. The cast were brilliant, the sound was fantastic and we really enjoyed it. Definitely worth seeing. The only downside was the queue to get out of the car park but there's not much that can be done about that.

    Yippie kai yay
We attended a performance of Yippie kai yay and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was absolutely brilliant. It was beautifully written and almost Shakesperian in places. Kudos to Richard Marsh on his performance. Highly recommended. The FOH staff were also superb. I have an access card and they were more than helpful. Thank you for an excellent evening.

Fantastic show at Royal and Derngate
Fantastic show at the Royal and Derngate Theatre. Giovanni is absolutely amazing. What a show! Excellent views from the seats (stalls). Lots of eating/ drinking options around the theatre. The theatre is a 10 minute walk from the station. I had to get the bus to Northampton as there was a train strike when I attended but easy to navigate around the town. I had a very enjoyable time and I've already booked up for another visit.

Took our grandchildren aged nine and six to see Cinderella just before Christmas. We had excellent seats-very central and about eight rows from the stage. Both the children found the pantomime very good and thoroughly enjoyed it. As adults, we found the plot shallow and the cast not of a very high standard. However, our main gripe was the fact that ALL tickets prices are the same(£38) with no concessions for senior citizens or for children under 10. Milking the audience for everything is what we thought with the added £3 eachfor small tubs of ice cream during the interval.

So, first time here. Let me start with the positives, of which there were many. We came to see Beautiful, Carole King on a Saturday evening. Staff throughout were exceptional, drinks were reasonable, sound quality was fantastic and a really good show.

One negative, and it is a big one. We booked on the official website and found nice seats in Box 5 (there was still a lot of availability). Block 5 was close to the stage and so we were really looking forward to it. At no point during the booking process, or indeed on the tickets, did it mention the seats being restricted view. A lot of the production took place in the corner of the stage and our view was blocked by speakers. Mentioned in on the night and also on the survey that we received after the show but no response
Such a shame.

A fantastic venue for all shows!
I visit the venue regularly as it has a wide range of shows for all ages and interests.

Good seats, stage and bar/refreshment facilities. They offer local made ice cream which is lovely.

Helpful and friendly staff and some great prices for shows also.

Went to see Shen Yun . Whilst the show was spectacular this review is about the theatre itself.
The Derngate is old and tired, in addition to which it has some structural concrete problems making part of the building inaccesible. We were in the circle which to access you go into the theatre out of a fire door back through another fire door then up the stairs. Our seats( more on those later) were then on the far side of the circle. To get to the seats you have to go between all of the rows disturbing everyone as there is no access to that side . Once at our seats we were surprised that they weren’t the aisle seats we anticipated, unfortunately they were end of row but the wall isn’t shown on the seating plan. The seats were worn, threadbare small with no leg room by far then most uncomfortable seats at any venue we have experienced in recent years.
There was supposed to be a bar in the circle which was a small table with a few drinks and toilets. The toilets consisted of 1 less abled toilet and one gents toilet with the urinals blocked off which left 2 cubicles as a unisex toilet. This served nearly half of the circle. People were still waiting when the interval was over. None of this disruption is advised on the website nor is it advised when booking. At £80 a ticket definitely not worth it. Had we known about the disruption we would have gone somewhere else. Finally parking. We parked in St John’s and had to queue for over 30 mins pay, whilst I accept its not the theatres fault there must be a better way of doing it. At the curve theatre in Leicester you can pay inside the theatre before the performance. As an overall experience dreadful. At £80 a ticket and over £7 for 2 bottles of water you really should do better. We will vote with our feet and not be back.

Wonderful in every way. Such talent from the two members of the cast and their puppets. Excellent scene and prop changes. Everything about this charming production was top drawer. I love taking my little Grandchildren to the Underground theatre at the Derngate. It's perfect for introducing them to the theatre and a 40 minute production is perfect for their concentration spans. We absolutely loved this production. Thank you so much.

My wife and I regularly visit Royal and Derngate especially to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and also ballet performances.

The acoustics are excellent and you can also take your drinks in to the theatre which makes the experience even more special.

The staff are excellent and the facilities spotlessly clean.

School of rock was amazing. We were in the front row of the stalls and the view was brilliant. The show itself was brilliant and we really enjoyed it. The only issues were connected to organisation. Customers were not permitted to enter the auditorium until about 10 mins before the start of the show. This lead to vast numbers of people accumulating the foyer before it started and then a mass of people trying to get to their seats at once which was not a good experience. Thankfully the show itself made up for this. Ice cream was sold inside the auditorium but this was cash only (which seemed strange when the theatre had mentioned being a cashless venue). There is a car park next to the theatre which is very convenient but a nightmare to get out of at the end (not the theatres fault though).

All round disappointed in the Snow White Panto purely because we struggled to hear the actors most of the time, so didn't understand the comedy punch lines and gags. Unless you are sitting in the stalls towards the front of the stage you really struggle to hear! Music is often too loud which drowns out the singing and any understanding of what the actors are saying.

Sitting in the circle, we weren't the only ones who found this as another family even spoke to the sound guy (who sits infront of the circle row A) and asked why they can't hear anything. He clearly knew what they meant and continued to tell them that the theatre really needs to invest in better sound equipment and advised there's nothing he could do! This is clearly a common complaint then.

Ive been to the Deco in Northampton for many years at Christmas but thought we would try the Derngate instead..... but I must say this will be the last time for us. Deco is all round much cheaper and holds a better and more quality production. To pay nearly £40 a ticket to barely hear a thing is a waste of good money especially now with the cost of living.

First visit after lockdown lifted.
Matinee visit to see ‘Four Quartets’, Ralph Fiennes, amazing performance.
But really wanted to say well done to all the staff, (volunteers).
Managed to deliver really covid safe, properly distance, safe theatre, which is so challenging currently.
If this is what we now have to do now, in order to be able to see live theatre, then thank goodness for those theatres being prepared to deliver covid safe performances, so professionally.
Much appreciated.

Enjoyed an evening performance with Danny Baker and Bob Harris - Backstage Pass Tour. Parked nearby in the multi-storey down the hill for a short walk to the theatre. Enjoyed pre show drinks from the bar and sat in the open lounge area. Our excellent seats were mid way back from stage in the stalls with a perfect view and sound. The show was most enjoyable with Baker and Harris each relating their amusing anecdotes from their lengthy experiences in the entertainment industry. Without a presenter to introduce and control the show content it was Danny Baker who took the lead role. There was a short interval for refreshments and leg stretching before an enjoyable second half. The show finished exactly on time. A great evening and we look forward to attending another show at the Royal & Derngate Theatre.
