It’s a grave, it’s a grave!!! The only reason we visited the grave was because we share the same family name as dick. I’m not sure how you can leave a negative review for this…again it’s a grave!
It’s not Disneyland it’s not going to have bells and whistles it’s not going to have fine dining or fun stuff for the kids.
ITS A GRAVE!!!
Ok yes it’s not in the nicest area of York and apparently now a dog park but it’s only 5 mins from the wall walk.
So if you go to where google tells you it is, the wall walk should be in front of you just walk up past it towards the housing estate, you will have a wall on your left with trees on the other side, walk along the wall until it goes round the corner to the left and the grave is on your left in a gated graveyard.
I hope this will help.
Oh yeah and don’t forget it’s only a grave nothing else, it’s just a grave.

Me and my partner decided to have a walk to this site as it was our list of things to do. It was quite eventful, when we finally found the park itself which is not signposted at all (thank you google maps) we were acosted by a young man who had more shoes than teeth. The man was enraged that a van driver had just nearly ran him and his dogs over as he was too busy looking at s young girl and not putting his ticker (can only presume this meant indicator) on whilst going round the corner. After listening to his delightful version of events he then refused to let us in the park as he wanted to let both his dogs off the leash for a walk. We waited outside for a moment but that just caused his dogs to bark at us through the gate. So in the end we gave up. We saw it from afar and i hope anyones future visits to this site are less eventful than ours.

Dick Turpin's Grave is exactly that. There really isn't much more to add. It is situated in a small graveyard, opposite a church and there is an information stand just inside the gate covering Turpin's history but it is absolutely worth visiting. In a city full of history and full of historical buildings and places of interest, this is something that could easily be overlooked but everyone should go and see it as it is a great slice of history and free to visit of course!

I always thought Dick Turpin was based in the South of England. I am based in Hertfordshire and there is a place nearby which is refuted to be a place where Mr Turpin hung out.

Clearly in later years he ventured North and got caught out.

His grave is in a cemetry on the edge of York city centre and very close to the city walls.

There are other graves in the graveyard and the only one with a well preserved stone is Mr Turpin's. Continuing to maintain his notoriety?

Well worth checking out if you like British history.

Easy one to miss, not exactly clearly signposted. There is a good information board nearby and grave site reasonable well kept. There is doubt that the gravestone marks the actual burial site, though it is believed he is buried somewhere in that grave yard. The grave site is quite large but the legend is he was buried with his horse, so that fits

Didn’t expect much from reading other reviews but I did experience exactly what I read! The possible sighting of one of the local drunks attracted me to take a look. I visited at 9:40am and as I got to the graveyard there they was! 3 of them sharing a bottle of loopy juice cider!

The grave is just off the church grounds in a separate grave yard. All other graves are slabs whereas Dick Turpin’s has its own headstone and concrete patch. Worth a look just to see if any of the locals are about sipping there gin and juice

We spotted this on the open top tour bus and it was pointed out to us. So we hopped off the next time we passed. It’s in a small courtyard with several graves in there and DIck Turpins grave is at the back of the courtyard

Slightly off the usual tourist route, but near the city centre and easy to find. Famous for being a highwayman and subsequently hung nearby for murder, there is some question about whether or not he is actually buried here, but it was worth a slight detour to say we've seen it. Not worth a special trip unless he is of particular interest.

A small cemetery opposite st Georges church, St George st, York. go through the iron gates and there is the headstone in a square plot engraved with the details of Dick Turpin, is looking a bit sad, and there is nothing else to see, but its near enough the town centre to visit if you have an interest in Dick Turpin.

There are some doubts as to the authenticity of this claim. He was indeed buried here after execution but was quickly disinterred by grave robbers. While the authorities usually turned a blind eye to this crime, the public were less forgiving. A local mob recovered the corpse, and it is said Turpin was reburied with quicklime to deter future attempts to take his body. There is no evidence that he was reburied in the same grave.
