We visit here for a beer or two every time we visit York, unfortunately the only spirits we have encountered the great selection of gins. Great friendly staff, nice selection of lunchtime food well worth a visit

The steak was amazing, the hard sundaes are delightful and not too heavy. I had the cherry brandy one. It was delightful. The whole place is wonky, I am assured it’s the building and not the alcohol! Nice smoking area. Ask to read the book...More

My partner and I stumbled upon the golden fleece as we walked out of the shambles and we're so glad we did. We really wanted to take a ghost tour/walk that evening and we had seen their little plaque outside the door listing their resident...More

Lovely olde world pub. We just had drinks but such friendly, talkative staff. Food smelled and according to the couple next to us, very tasty indeed. Prices excellent, ambiance wonderful. Could not have wished for a better way to introduce my husband to the delights...More

Went for lunch yesterday. Place was full but staff found us a cosy little table. There’s two rooms downstairs, smaller one at the front which I’d say was ideal for a couple of pints, and a larger room at the back which was cosy and...More

Popped in for a couple of drinks. Good range of ales and a wonderful atmosphere although a little spooky!! Definitely worth a visit, the bar area is small but loads of character. Would certainly recommend.

The exterior, like many of Yorks buildings, is stunning. The place oozes character. Upon entry it felt cramped however We then realised there is a much larger dining area/bar to the rear, where we were seated. The decor is lovely, very shabby/ye olde medieval style,...More

Great Beer, Tasty Food and Lovely Rooms. Had a lovely stay here and grew very fond of the ‘regular’ at the bar. He looks like he may have been there for quite some time but I promise you won’t wait that long.
