- Sarah A5 contributionsStayed at The Roman Bath for one night. The Roman Bath is in the heart of York, so an Ideal location. The room was tired and may need a revamp but we liked it, was clean and comfy and we would stay again. We stayed a Wednesday night so probably not a right lot of party goers out. Karaoke in the Roman Bath was on until 11:00pm. Early in the morning it is very noisy in the area, metal clattering noises, market traders setting up etc. Didn't bother us but may put others off if they are after a peaceful night and a lay-in. Nice staff. Let us store out luggage there before check in and after checkout.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 20, 2024
- M V5 contributionsThere's some truly good singers that use this pub to keep their hand in for Karaoke the karaoke night is like a night full of stars. A great night's entertainment. With great bar service to boot.Visited January 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten January 28, 2025
- Lesley cDurham, United Kingdom40 contributionsAfter having a walk around the xmas market and getting wet ,we visited the nearby pub, The Roman Bath. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. The prices are reasonable and service very efficient. I had moved seats and left my handbag on the side of the chair.it was at least 30 minutes before I realised I didn't have it. The lovely lady behind the bar had noticed it on our previous table and picked it up, keeping it safe. I was so grateful, to say the least. It shows that honest people are still around and I would like to say a big thank you ! I definitely recommend this pub.Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 10, 2024
- Robert MGlasgow, United Kingdom94 contributionsWe had been to this pub many times when visiting York, It is a really nice old fashion pub with pictures of the Roman baths displayed on the walls. On Wednesday afternoon I was in the bar and knocked over my glass of Mulled Wine a young lady sitting near by rushed to help me mop it up then got me another glass of mulled wine. I presumed that she worked in the bar a really friendly place. On Thursday lunch time I was in the bar again and speaking to I assume the landlady she was telling me that the pub was being taken over by another brewery and that she was thing of giving up the pub it would be a real shame. I have been visiting this pub since 1982 and have always considered the atmosphere and staff one of the treasures of York.Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 13, 2024
- TickleishWellington, New Zealand374 contributionsAs we’d been strolling around York we wanted to take the weight off and have a refreshing drink. As we entered the pub, we went straight down the stairs to discover a Roman bath!!! WTF… under the pub is a Roman bath…. A small and very reasonable charge with informative chat regarding the x3 baths, very good! Then we went up the stairs and got our drinks and sat in the beer garden… scratching our heads on a multitude of things. How much we’ve built up approx 5-6m below us are romans Vikings etc… Anyhow, with a dodgy aroma in the beer garden, we opted to drink up and March onwardsVisited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 13, 2024
- Hazel HughesCounty Antrim, United Kingdom5 contributionsGreat place for entertainment. We went to the karaoke and we had a lot of fun. Friendly ,helpful staff and Ross ,the karaoke guy had plenty of chat and good one liners. We will be back for sure. Must go to see the Roman Baths too!Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 26, 2024

Hotel room was very spacious and clean, but it could do with a bit DIY, especially the bathroom although the room had everything we needed and plenty of towels, toiletries and condiments.
Shortly after booking, I received an email forewarning us of potential noise as the pub has live music on on a Friday and Saturday night and the pub backs on to Vudu nightclub. When we arrived, we were immediately told of this and we were offered ear plugs which we accepted. However, they were not needed.
Our room faced the back of the nightclub and when we arrived back to the hotel room at 1am, we could here a little bit of noise from the nightclub but it did not prevent us from sleeping well. I did wake up during the night and heard what I thought was a generator (my partner thinks this was a boiler) but again, the noise was was nothing major and sounded like the wind!
Overall, great staff, great pub and hotel, great price, great Roman museum below (£3.50 each) and great location. We would definitely stay again.

We visited York on a Trip wanting to take into history wanting to take into account the history of the beautiful city. We visited many Museums and historical sites, but none as unique or interesting as the Roman Bath Museum! With a humble fare of 3.50, the museum is a small hallway with ruins from an old Roman military bath. For any history fan - it’s great. The gentleman selling tickets was chatty, friendly and knowledgable about the history of the site. We also loved the station with Roman armour to try on. Overall - great trip. One of the most enjoyable museums in York for us that we visited (whilst being the cheapest). Don’t miss, history fans!

Bathroom locked resulting in handle having to be removed. Manager promised it would be fixed but it wasn't.
No hanging space whatsoever (family room)
No hairdryer - which was apparently 'shared between residents' despite the fact hanging space and hairdryer advertised as room specific.
Frayed towels
Extreme temperature shower (with no warnings this might happen) which burnt one of our party.
Complained to management including that we had paid a lot for our room, and was told 'It's a live venue pub, room only'told them they had misrepresented accommodation on their website but they weren't interested.
Very disappointed with attitudes and failing to make good our complaint

Admittedly a very small attraction, but our visit lasted much longer thanks to the guy who runs it. On taking our York pass details on entry, we got chatting and, as soon as he found out we were locals and that my wife had studied archaeology, we had a lengthy discussion about Roman York and found out that he organises the Roman Festival each year. The rest of the exhibit was good, taking us about 25 minutes including our chat to get round, and made the most of the space given the limited budget he’s working with. Given the low entry price, I’d say it’s definitely worth visiting if you’re interested in Roman history or perhaps a child is learning about it in school, but to make the most of your visit don’t walk round in silence.

We were visiting York to see Dave Gormon at the Grand Opera House so were looking for somewhere central. Location is perfect close to the station, river, shambles etc. Rooms aren't fancy but ideal for a city break. Rooms are above a pub with regular live music but that's very clear to anyone booking and we really enjoyed the band. If we get chance to stay in York again we'd very happily stay here.
We'd had a great time and were nearly home when I couldn't find my car key. I called the hotel and I had left it in the table by the bedside. Sharon the landlady kindly posted the key out the next day which was a huge relief and above and beyond service.

Pub hopping around this part of town my twin brother Ste and I decided to drop into The Roman Bath Pub,a pub we always look forward to visiting on any trip to York we take.
I love the look of this pub ,a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, pubby decor and furnishings and amazing wall art depicting scenes of Roman life, this alludes to the Roman museum in the basement of the pub, there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub,it's just a good old fashioned boozer.
We were here on a Monday afternoon,we ordered bitters each from John Smiths Brewery, served in excellent condition,we just kicked back and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub.
I enjoy a bitter every now and again,in my opinion it's such an underrated beer style but when served in great condition as in this pub it's such a refreshing brew.
We both really enjoyed our bitters in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
The Roman Bath Pub is easy to locate on St Sampsons Square.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Thursday,open from midday.
Friday to Sunday,open from 11am.
A great pub,I highly recommend you seek out if you're in the area .

We arrived in the afternoon and the young lady behind the bar showed us to our room. She was friendly and explained that we had a key to the back door, which ment we could come and go before the pub opened and after it had closed.
The room was quite small having to negotiate entering the room. It was clean, with a private bathroom.
The Manager was also friendly when went to the bar to get a drink and asked for an iron. It was left outside our room for our return.
It's a great location, only issues we had were the noises from the early bin collection, lots of loud groups hanging around the back on the street. We struggled with the nights they had live music/karaoke, it made it impossible to stay in your room.
As I said great location, just not for us and certainly not if you had young children.

Not the most exciting of experiences. We went to the bar and bought a drink and asked about the musuem under the pub. We were told to pay downstairs but we were not told that the museum was to soon close and we missed out on seeing the roman ruins. Most of the York sights we visited were pleased to see us but here the customm was abit surly.

Music stopped at 11.00 the generator from the kebab van ,sounded like a petrol lawn mower outside our room., till 4.16 am precisely (still awake) had 2 hours then early morning delivery start at 6 . More banging more generators. As you can tell by my reviews do not stay here

Central location and friendly staff. Bedroom windows are very thinly glazed which is understandable as an old building. However, with the rooms facing the street it’s incredibly noisy especially when a kebab truck is there till 4am with an incredibly loud generator. Impossible to sleep! Wouldn’t stay again unfortunately.

Sincere apologies for the delay in responding. I have just got back from a long spell in hospital. There is parking in York, but not close to the Roman Bath. I would recommend that you use the city's excellent Park & Ride service. I'm sorry if this response is too late for you.

How would it take to take everything in?
Written September 12, 2016
Not very long to be honest. 20 mins if you are really into it. It's not a big site but the man there is good value to talk to.

Hi. Any details of how we can access the tour run by the Canadian PhD student Brad ?
Written April 29, 2015
I have trained several assistant curators from the University of York who have learned my tour and added their own special knowledge and energy to it, but if you really want to join one of mine I am there most Sundays working on my tablet applying to academic positions. :)
Best,
Dr Brad Kirkland
