Stumbled across this little gem by accident. Serving both Sunday roasts and normal food, there was something for both my partner and I. Food was hot and delicious and staff friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come again!!

Tiny little museum under a pub where you can view the ruins of a Roman Bath - not somewhere to spend the whole day but still a must-see. Kind gentleman opened specially for us and showed us round even though it was officially closed. Clear that lots of love and hard work has gone into the museum. Perfect place for a little bit of interesting history followed by a drink in the pub.

After being treated very poorly at Yates my friends and I went over the The Roman Bath for a drink before returning home, we were welcomed with open arms, given 2 lovely outside tables, the place had a great atmosphere which other places lacked due to COVID-19 sucking all kinds of fun out of socialising, everyone was following social distancing guidelines but was able to talk and socialise without being at risk. 100% give this place a visit if your in York, very central. Also a great place to stay and visit when the Christmas Market is on as it is in the middle of the market!

Whilst the pictures on the various sites depict a warm and welcoming trip back in history, in reality I would not recommend this place to anyone. I went there last Monday with my fiancé, brother & sister in law, Mum & Dad and Auntie & Uncle and my seven year old nephew. We were not asking for concessionary food for the over 60s we didn’t even know food was served however after allowing us to purchase five pints the obnoxious barmaid with BLUE hair came over and said my nephew couldn’t eat his 20 chicken nuggets in the pub! Ok so we went outside and again got told a 7 year old couldn’t eat his few remaining nuggets cause they serve food! There were no menus to suggest that in fact if there had been we probably would have ordered there (see my next review amazing food). Then as a 7 year old on his own with 8 adults he started walking on a wall at which point the reaction of the bar staff and locals (yocals) in there was unbelievable. We didn’t react perfectly but all that was needed was for one person to say tell him not to climb there. There were 8 of us if he’d have fallen then it would have been our fault! The wall wasn’t two foot high! This is not a welcoming place at all don’t be fooled by pictures they tell a thousand words but the customer service tells one word - contemptible!

After walking past this places several times thinking it was only a pub, I randomly heard someone talk about the museum inside. I'm glad I did! In the basement, you will find the remains of a Roman bath. They're not huge (in fact, what is there is small) but it was still very interesting. The man that worked there was a wealth of information and very enthusiastic about the subject area. As much of York is based on the Viking heritage, it's nice to hear about the other people who lived and worked there. Well worth a trip.
