- Adam TYork, United Kingdom881 contributionsThe owner made our visitAdmittedly a very small attraction, but our visit lasted much longer thanks to the guy who runs it. On taking our York pass details on entry, we got chatting and, as soon as he found out we were locals and that my wife had studied archaeology, we had a lengthy discussion about Roman York and found out that he organises the Roman Festival each year. The rest of the exhibit was good, taking us about 25 minutes including our chat to get round, and made the most of the space given the limited budget he’s working with. Given the low entry price, I’d say it’s definitely worth visiting if you’re interested in Roman history or perhaps a child is learning about it in school, but to make the most of your visit don’t walk round in silence.Visited September 2020Written April 16, 2021
- Rosemary WChester, United Kingdom472 contributionsMusic venueWe vivted the Roman Bath last friday to listen to the Dirty Vinyl band as it seemed to be the only live music we could find in a pub in York that night apart from a punk band at Bootham Tavern. It was right up my husbands street. There were obviously some regular locals who were also enjoying the music. The guitarist was very talented. It was a pity we couldn't really see them as there were very few seats with a view of the band. It looks like there is regular music on at a weekend. Lots of atmosphere. Mostly over 50's the night we went. But that may be the genre of music on offer.Visited January 2020Written January 6, 2020
- SofiyaParis, France3 contributionsRoman RelicsWe visited York on a Trip wanting to take into history wanting to take into account the history of the beautiful city. We visited many Museums and historical sites, but none as unique or interesting as the Roman Bath Museum! With a humble fare of 3.50, the museum is a small hallway with ruins from an old Roman military bath. For any history fan - it’s great. The gentleman selling tickets was chatty, friendly and knowledgable about the history of the site. We also loved the station with Roman armour to try on. Overall - great trip. One of the most enjoyable museums in York for us that we visited (whilst being the cheapest). Don’t miss, history fans!Visited August 2022Traveled with friendsWritten August 16, 2022

Whilst the pictures on the various sites depict a warm and welcoming trip back in history, in reality I would not recommend this place to anyone. I went there last Monday with my fiancé, brother & sister in law, Mum & Dad and Auntie & Uncle and my seven year old nephew. We were not asking for concessionary food for the over 60s we didn’t even know food was served however after allowing us to purchase five pints the obnoxious barmaid with BLUE hair came over and said my nephew couldn’t eat his 20 chicken nuggets in the pub! Ok so we went outside and again got told a 7 year old couldn’t eat his few remaining nuggets cause they serve food! There were no menus to suggest that in fact if there had been we probably would have ordered there (see my next review amazing food). Then as a 7 year old on his own with 8 adults he started walking on a wall at which point the reaction of the bar staff and locals (yocals) in there was unbelievable. We didn’t react perfectly but all that was needed was for one person to say tell him not to climb there. There were 8 of us if he’d have fallen then it would have been our fault! The wall wasn’t two foot high! This is not a welcoming place at all don’t be fooled by pictures they tell a thousand words but the customer service tells one word - contemptible!

Visited on a Wednesday with a couple of friends. Few small groups in and one large party all having a good time and joining in. Bar staff member was lovely, smiling, friendly and efficient (young blonde haired girl)
The couple running the karaoke? What a miserable pair! It was painfully clear that if you weren’t one of 4 people who all got up to sing twice each whilst we were in there that you weren’t welcome to join in! Myself and my friends were just observers but a few of the big group got up to perform and they were greeted with grunts, snarls and slamming of pens and sheets of paper! They genuinely looked intimidating! And then they swore over the microphone to a performer! If you don’t want to do a job then don’t do it! So miserable and unprofessional. Needless to say the big group left shortly afterward, unsurprisingly, and so did we!
Two stars are for the lovely barmaid who even though working alone had a smile and cheery chat for everyone!

Bathroom locked resulting in handle having to be removed. Manager promised it would be fixed but it wasn't.
No hanging space whatsoever (family room)
No hairdryer - which was apparently 'shared between residents' despite the fact hanging space and hairdryer advertised as room specific.
Frayed towels
Extreme temperature shower (with no warnings this might happen) which burnt one of our party.
Complained to management including that we had paid a lot for our room, and was told 'It's a live venue pub, room only'told them they had misrepresented accommodation on their website but they weren't interested.
Very disappointed with attitudes and failing to make good our complaint

Not the most exciting of experiences. We went to the bar and bought a drink and asked about the musuem under the pub. We were told to pay downstairs but we were not told that the museum was to soon close and we missed out on seeing the roman ruins. Most of the York sights we visited were pleased to see us but here the customm was abit surly.

Pub hopping around this part of town my twin brother Ste and I decided to drop into The Roman Bath Pub,a pub we always look forward to visiting on any trip to York we take.
I love the look of this pub ,a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room, pubby decor and furnishings and amazing wall art depicting scenes of Roman life, this alludes to the Roman museum in the basement of the pub, there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub,it's just a good old fashioned boozer.
We were here on a Monday afternoon,we ordered bitters each from John Smiths Brewery, served in excellent condition,we just kicked back and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub.
I enjoy a bitter every now and again,in my opinion it's such an underrated beer style but when served in great condition as in this pub it's such a refreshing brew.
We both really enjoyed our bitters in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
The Roman Bath Pub is easy to locate on St Sampsons Square.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Thursday,open from midday.
Friday to Sunday,open from 11am.
A great pub,I highly recommend you seek out if you're in the area .

We visited this small museum as part of the York Pass on 4 June and its was great and pack full of history. After a talk with the lovely gent at the counter where his gave us the loadown on the site and what was found there, we followed the one way system and got to read the panels and see more of the site. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves abit of hidden history

This is not a hotel this is a extremely noise pub. With rooms above . Wednesday night karaoke the tea cups in the room were rattling with the base of the music. Music stopped at 11.00 the generator from the kebab van ,sounded like a petrol lawn mower outside our room., till 4.16 am precisely (still awake) had 2 hours then early morning delivery start at 6 . More banging more generators. As you can tell by my reviews do not stay here

Small museum located underneath the pub, a cool wee piece of history. There is a portion of the Roman baths uncovered during construction the pub now let’s the public access for a small fee (few pounds). The best part is the hypocaust system that you can see. There isn’t much here but worth a stop by to see ancient York.

Sincere apologies for the delay in responding. I have just got back from a long spell in hospital. There is parking in York, but not close to the Roman Bath. I would recommend that you use the city's excellent Park & Ride service. I'm sorry if this response is too late for you.

Not very long to be honest. 20 mins if you are really into it. It's not a big site but the man there is good value to talk to.

Hi. Any details of how we can access the tour run by the Canadian PhD student Brad ?

I have trained several assistant curators from the University of York who have learned my tour and added their own special knowledge and energy to it, but if you really want to join one of mine I am there most Sundays working on my tablet applying to academic positions. :)
Best,
