We arrived early afternoon and spent the next 3 hours wandering almost aimlessly around the city. Tried to get into the Minster but because it is a timed entrance were unlucky and couldnt get in - or lucky deoending on how you view the considerable costs involved. York is so expensive - even for a day trip and I,m glad I hadnt booked to go for a weekend as we would have been bankrupt before it ended. Anyhow, I ramble, trying to kill an hour before leaving we hopped on one of these buses and asked for a round trip back to where we were getting on. Cost for 3 £36.00. Hubby commented he didnt want to buy the bus! Like everything in York it is expensive - but i will say the weather was kind so we could sit outside and the commentary while the usual historical blurb was livened up by the addition of the drivers observations - he was quite funny. because it was race day the trip didnt go out by the racetrack but it was very interesting to go around the wall and see the various keeps-which we would never have managed by walking. Didnt realise it is actually quite a big place as hadnt covered half of it but using the tour bus got a great overall view of the place. It is expensive but to be fair if you have limited time it is a great way to view the city with no need to wander around. Do the tour then leave and go somewhere else:)…

We quiet often use hop on hop off buses in cities we vist, they can be very informative and an ideal way to get around to different attractions and places to eat and relax, however, although the guide on this tour seemed to have a reasonable knowledge base he spent his time interacting with the customers upstairs having private conversations and joking around nothing wrong with that except people downstairs had also payed for the tour. York City Centre is not all that big so the tour didn't take long and we had already seen everything on offer so it was a waste of money as far as we were concerned, I think a little research before visiting would be well worth it especially since the tour doesn't see two actually really visit many places rather drops you off near by, I think if they included the outlet shopping centre on the itinerary it might provide a little more value.…

Went round twice once in the morning were there was a tape recording commentary and once in the afternoon when there was a guide giving a commentary pleased we did the second trip as the guide was a 'York' man and an enthusiast gave a superb commentary. Well worth doing.

See the sights, and be educated. Don't be super fast to go for the top deck, yes, you get a great view, but unless its a gorgeous day it can get very cold. A nice experience and worth the money. The commentary is very informative and depending on the driver sometimes amusing.

York Pullman open top buses are a slightly cheaper alternative to the ubiquitous red buses. The route is broadly similar and takes in all the 'sights' of York.
