We were on our way home after dinner our last night in Yorkhwhen another American came out of the Black Swan and told us we needed to go in and listen to the music. Turned out it was Folk Weekend and the pub had music playing in three rooms. So we settled in with a pint and just enjoyed, moving... More

Went to experience the atmosphere, ghosts etc, didn't see any lol. However, great beer, good friendly service and worth the trip for the food alone. Superb Yorkshire pud.

We went last night for a Monday night treat and what a lovely meal we had. They must serve the best pies in York if not Yorkshire. Great value for money, lovely food, really good beer and lovely wine. Service both friendly and efficient and super value for money. If you are coming to York and want honest good food... More

This is one of our favourite pubs in York and we always tend to start our evenings out in here. It dates back to the 15th century and according to the landlord has many ghosts. One of which we have experienced first hand. There is always a roaring log fire in the winter and great decorations for Halloween and Christmas.... More

This is a regular eating place which also serves exellent beer. A very old pub with lots of history. Customers are always greeted with a very warm welcom.

I live in York as a student and when my parents come to visit we always eat here. Its great food and we have always gotten great service :D I would definitely recommend you visit even if its just for a pint next to the traditional fireplace!

I went for lunch today with some friends the food was lovely but the bar maid with black curly hair was very rude to us. she first told us we couldn't use the chip on our bank cards to pay but then did it anyway. She was not polite didn't smile or make us feel welcome at all. There was... More

Very rude staff who couldn't of been more unwelcoming if they tried. We actually heard them speaking about us around the corner because we were unsure of the menu. They definitely need to work on their customer service skills and the food was average too.

We wanted to eat in an atmospheric old pub that also served reasonable food. Our lovely host, Dave, at Sleepers B & B (see my review) recommended The Black Swan as being able to provide a good feed in a lovely setting. We weren't disappointed with the building - Tudor-style and apparently dating back to the 15th century. Disappointed, though,... More
