    Exceeds expectations!
Completely awe inspiring. It exceeded my expectations both in size and beauty. The stone carving alone was incredible. The individual tributes to people are a fascinating look into life at those times. The stained glass windows are a marvel to behold including the largest stained glass window in England. Not to be forgotten are the bells which put forth amazing sounds.Best of all is the aura of being in a space where people have been praying for almost a thousand years. Amazing!

Hadn't been in before due to cost for a family ticket but can afford it now
1st time in today as previous visits with our children would have been too expensive but now our kids are grown up we can afford to go ! We immediately joined a free tour and our guide Angela was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of interesting info .After the tour we took lots of photos and looked around the crypt and museum which was larger than expected .The things in there are amazing ! I see a lot of reviews regarding cost for families and individuals and can appreciate it is costly to enter but feel today we did get value for money but do feel when our kids were younger they would have been bored so fortunate I can now indulge myself now I'm older lol 😆

    Interesting tour guide
It is expensive to get in here but it is a beautiful building that costs a lot to restore. We jumped on a tour that has just started and missed the first five minutes, so wasn’t sure what the tour guides approach was, not as the group moved around the Minster, things were pointed out that there is no way we would have noticed. On one of the stained glass windows there are an unusual amount of monkeys, a sculpture of a monkey putting something up another monkeys bottom is at the top of one of the pillars and a statue with two right feet. Thrown in with some great facts, an entertaining few hours were spent here and it was worth every penny.

    Love this place
Like visiting an old friend. Such a shame the entrance fees are so high - must put a lot of people off visiting. Think they would also benefit from having a cafe - their refectory is not in the building and, is reportedly quite 'upmarket' - so not for the average visitor.

The York Minster iss so beautiful it requires a few hours or a few visits, best done in the off-seasons!
Having passed through York a few times over the past 15 years, being a traveller from far-away Down Under, I finally got to the Minster, and ended up returning a few times during my UK stay! I was almost brought to tears with awe and wonderment on walking in. It was a very humbling experience to see the beauty of the Minster, considering the obvious efforts, care and skill of many people over so many years in the course of its construction and ongoing upkeep. I was not annoyed at all with the expense to enter, (in contrast with others who have written negative reviews appear to have been). In fact it was not 'expensive' at all for the experience, and I was happy to make my small contribution towards the maintenance of this beautiful and important historic site. I also found the staff at the gift shop were also incredibly helpful and knowledgable. The merchandise is gorgeous.

    Beautiful building... price is questionable
First of all the building is spectacular. The price at £18 per adult for entry though is on the high side. I fully understand places like this need money in order for it to be kept to a brilliant standard, however i feel £18 per adult is far too high and exploiting tourists to an extent.

    Climbed the tower
We arrived around 10 so it was nice and quiet. We decided to opt for the tower climb where we looked down on the city. The cathedral was very beautiful inside with the light making patterns through the stained glass. The volunteers were helpful and friendly.

Whatever your beliefs are....Just soak up the architecture and the history....
Just Spectacular.... Spent a lovely visit to York Minster. so much to see inside. While I am not religious, i do have beliefs and wonder at the architecture and ponder over the lives of the poor souls who built this wonderful building. Loads of things to see inside and out what ever your beliefs are. Just enjoy and soak up the history....

    Nice minister
Visited york minister today, had to wait about 20 minutes for it to open 30 minutes later than it should. Once inside lovely stained glass windows and lots of things to see and photograph. A little expensive at 18 pound although that is for a year pass.

I visited here many years ago, when there was only a charge to visit the crypt. Returning here in December, with my wife, I was surprised to find that a charge of around £10 per head was levied to walk around the Cathedral. Although initially reluctant to stump up the fee, I was, in the end, very pleased I did so, given the visitor experience that we received. The fee provides for multiple visits, and is valid for a year. A guided tour taking around an hour, and also access to the crypt is included.

For anyone feeling they can simply walk around having paid the entrance fee, my advice is please wait and take the tour - it is genuinely well worth it.

Our guide Glen C., who is a volunteer, was extremely knowledgeable and very approachable. He related the history of the minster and pointed out many of the fascinating details and amusing features hidden in the architecture, which would ordinarily be missed by the casual visitor if he were to walk around on his own. A visit to the crypt, with its Roman, Viking and medieval remains, whilst unguided, is well worth the time after the tour.

We really enjoyed our visit to this wonderful Cathedral with beautiful original stained glass windows and interesting gargoyles. The entrance fee is a little steep but does allow more than one visit if you have sufficient time in the city but you must pre-book online as the numbers are restricted in order to allow for social distancing. We found very helpful staff on duty within the Cathedral who were able to tell us a little about it’s history and how the stained glass windows were saved from King Henry VIIIth’s reformation.

We prebooked tickets at an adult cost of £11.50 and were given a time slot so that there was a steady flow of visitors throughout the day. The building was truly beautiful and we were free to roam around at our own leisure by using the one-way system. All the staff wore visors and were extremely happy, and knowledgeable, to answer questions. A 'must-see' attraction for anyone visiting the city.

The outside of this building is amazing. The first view of it was breathtaking.
We paid to go in (total - £27.50!) because my husband wanted to climb the Tower to get photos of the City from above.
While he did that I said i'd keep myself busy by walking around the inside.
Scaffolding everywhere in the middle, closed off. There was work going on to the organ pipes which took up another huge space, fenced off.
Walking past all of that, I saw the Crypt stairs and went down, absolutely the best part of the inside.
After 10 minutes down there reading everything I was surprised to find my husband waiting for me at the top of the stairs, his "20 minute" tower trip was done in 10 but he did have some gorgeous photographs.
The Rotary club seemed to have taken over the entire far end of the building and so it was impossible to walk around there or see anything because of the sheer volume of people (and noise).
After walking back down the left side and reading a few bits we realised that everything else was blocked off and so we left.
Don't get me wrong, the building itself is beautiful but I think the inside is lacking. We live near Gloucester Cathedral and that is definitely better inside with more to see.
I'm Pagan, I didn't visit this site as a place of worship, however I always respect other religions and beliefs, but it really doesn't sit well with me that a Church is charging people to enter for worship.

Due to Covid-19, we had to book two separate time slots for 1.30pm & 2pm. However, when we arrived for 1.30pm, there was a long queue to get in, but the member of staff said we could both enter at the same time, as we had proof of our booking. As a result of only two people being allowed in at a time, we didn't get into York Minster until around 1.50pm. It's a beautiful building, but as there a major renovation works taking place, there was scaffolding and coverings in place, and no access to the tower. I think the entrance fee of £11 should be reduced until access to all parts of the building is available.

It never fails to take my breath away when you first enter the square and see this beautiful building from the outside.
It is equally stunning on the inside, although a bit pricey to go around (£11 each, although this allows further multiple entries for a year)
Worth signing up for a guided tour if you do go in. Our guide was very knowledgeable, emphatic to the size of the group and fun, mixing interesting historical facts with amusing anecdotes and pointing out unexpected oddiites within the building.
The Undercroft Museum is also worth visiting (included in the price), helping to bring to life the ancient history of the site and the fascinating more recent work to stabilise the building.

My Booking was for the 11am slot. You can access the booking and Minster by showing the ticket ton your phone or printed at home. when opening the doors it is a lining up by the side of the Entrance then one family, personal or couple at a time.
The Minster is so beautiful inside and outside including the Gardens near the West Entrance.
I'd recommend really take your time walking round and take in it's history.

Also York Minster is near the City Wall so you can achieve a full day of fun and history
i Paid 11.50 and wall fully worth it.

Please please Enjoy

This is the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps and is truly a sight to behold. It is immense in scope (bigger than Notre Dame) and incredibly beautiful. There is an entrance fee of 11.50GBP but this gives you entry to the Minster and its crypt museum as well as a guided tour. Our tour guide spent over an hour talking us through this amazing building and giving context to what we saw. The tour alone would have been worth the entrance fee. Your ticket also allows you limitless access to the Minster over a calendar year so all in all, excellent value. The Minster has the oldest and largest surviving panel of Medieval stained glass in Europe so that alone is well worth the view. I can't recommend this Minster highly enough. A truly wonderful experience

My wife and I joined two Chinese ladies (mother & daughter) and a young lady from Seattle on a guided tour of this amazing building, our guide was David Haw who has the broadest Leeds accent imaginable, his historical knowledge of not only the building but people throughout the ages was incredible, David managed to keep our eclectic group attentive for one hour and twenty minutes.
A modest man who was quick to point out some of his fellow guides were more knowledgeable about the Minster itself. David also does the White Rose York tour (Free Tour) York Minster well worth the visit

I visited with my partner only to be told we needed to book a slot online and today is sold out, this was at about 1pm. How ridiculous in a building of that scale... Interestingly they didn't seem as bothered about the crowded gift shop. I poked my head out of the gift shop into the Minster just to have a look and was spoken to in an appalling tone by one of the guides. I'm not sure how I feel about a church charging £25 for two people to enter. I know such a large building requires upkeep but... That seems beyond the joke.
