We never fail to visit this area for a very personal reason. It contains the Kohima Memorial and our father was a veteran of Burma. We took along a Royal Welch Fusilier wreath to lay in memory of those of his regiment who served in that area - some who came back and some who never did.

Taking that out it, it is lovely in other ways.

Being here earlier than usual this year, we were fortunate enough not only to see an adult peregrine (they have nested in York Minster for years) but a couple of youngsters.

The general views of the Minster are excellent, there is a small but very pleasant sensory garden and it is a nice way pleasant way of getting from one place to another.

We can recommend the ice-cream!

A lovely peaceful little park next to the Minster which gives the ideal escape from the bustle of the city centre. It’s well kept and there’s lots of seating throughout, with views across different aspects of the minster which are great to admire. If you’re in the area and need to rest weary feet it’s certainly the place to go!

Dean’s Park is a lovely little park where you can have a peaceful stroll or just take the weight off your feet and rest for a while in between visiting places in York.

It is right next to York Minster and the Burma Star War Memorial is in the park, dedicated to the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division.

Deans park is home to the Minster library and a colonade of arches which are the remains of what was once the city centre residence of the Archbishops of York, this green area between Minster and Walls is the perfect route from the bustle of deangate to the peace of the cobbled street, home of the Treasurers house. Also perfect to simply sit and relax, (especially in warm weather) watching the world go by as you view the Minster in a setting in which it should be on all sides. Refreshments are available from a van at the deangate gate opposite which is a garden full of the York Minster Rose. An oasis in the city.

... Which I'm positive is beautiful but if you look up at the top of York Minster, you'll be surprised to see a pair of peregrine falcon nesting there! Thoroughly a pleasant surprise for a border like me! I managed to photograph mom bringing home a fresh kill and then feed her 4 chicks! See photos.

A very pleasant park with the amazing backdrop of the abbey that many people were enjoying during the sunny evening that I was there.

Right next to the Minster is this little gem. Had a walk around it and there are memorials there and great views of the minster and it's a lovely place to sit and take a break on the grass or a bench a nice day. It had something for me that I really liked. Not sure what, I just really like dit.

We often stroll through as we're passing and its usually lovely and quiet. In the summer there's usually an ice cream parlour that sells cups of tea and its quite nice to sit on the grass having a brew in the sun. Entry is free too.
