    Adult show
Getting in was a bit of a nightmare but once in there it was brilliant! We booked the 730pm adult show on Saturday 5th Feb for a hen party event and we were a party of 10. The first 5 of us arrived via taxi at 720pm and the lady at the entrance was so rude. We were told to wait outside in the rain and were told if we werent all there by 725pm we wouldn't be allowed in. Half of us went in and the other 5 arrived just in time but she had closed the entrance door and she told them her shift had finished and there was no point knocking on the door. A man did let them in just in time, but they had to really knock persistently to get someones attention to let them in. It was stressful getting in but once in we found it to be so funny and entertaining! Maybe the lady at the door was having a bad day, who knows, but it definitely caused us alot of stress, the hen was in the 2nd taxi! The actors were great and we recommend the experience.
FOuR (star) Odin! We shall dine in the great halls of Valhalla this evening with those mighty Norse gods after this great 4 star review! Sounds like the experience itself hit all the right marks - funny entertaining & those highly recommended actors! With regards to your difficulties on Admissions, we can only apologise for any difficulty & disruption - we will be putting our team at the mercy of the Torturer to find out exactly what happened on this occasion and equally how we can ensure a smooth & seamless entrance for all. (We do typically run on very strict timeslots with regards to tour departure just to ensure the overall flow of the attraction - especially with the last tour of Lates at 19:30 - but absolutely appreciate that it's important to communicate this effectively!!) Hope to see you in the darkest depths of the attraction again one day...

Brilliant and nerve wracking as always !
We’ve been to the york dungeon a couple of times previously aswell as the one in Alton Towers and they never fail to have you on the edge of your seat terrified and laughing at the brilliant and engaging actors within the dungeon. We found out that you had to book online even when you arrived through the QR code but couldn’t buy tickets using the 2for1 at the time for some reason; it was still worth every penny though. Actors wore masks aswell as everyone in our group so felt very safe and didn’t detract from the atmosphere that much because you could tell the actors were trying very hard to project and make the speech clear which it was. My favourite scene was the witch finale as it was the scariest out of all of them and love the lights and special effects which really added to the whole experience.
Thank you 600noahs for this amazing 5* review. We find it very easy to social distance from you peasants as you smell terrible! Isabella Billington remembers you and says you won't be so lucky to escape the next time you come back...if you dare! Have a horrible day!

    Trick or treat walking tour!!
My husband and I booked the week off for half term to have some Halloween fun with our children. (son 10 & daughter 6) whilst looking for ideas in York of what to do York dungeon trick or treat walking tour popped up. And I thought it was a good alternative to going into the actual dungeon venue as well as given us the opportunity to see York in a different more gruesome light much to the amusement of our children!! Our tour guides the Jester and Smedley were amazing, and very knowledgeable about the history of York, throw in some fantastic cheesy jokes along the way! And it was a great experience. The pair kept all the children and even the adults entertained and the jester even interacted with other pedestrians along the wall making everyone laugh. Our 2 tour guides interacted with my 2 children with patience and friendliness and genuinely listened to my son when he was asking questions or telling them about his horrible histories book collection and how he liked the more gruesome side of history. Would highly recommend to families as an great alternative or option for those who have younger children or children who are a bit unsure about being scared.
An excellent rundown of the frights & delights that guests experience on our Treat & Treat City Walking Tours from the Dungeon - with certainly some particularly strong recommendations and tips for all our future peasant guests! Especially for those with children or young families! p.s. the Jester & Smedley send you their regards... they're already looking forward to seeing you again one day... IF YOU DARE?!

We went on the evening event for adults only, it starts with you being pushed into having your photo taken which of course is there for you to buy at the end. As the ticket price is £25.00 per person before you get to buying photos this event is not cheap.
You move from room to room with actors telling the story of the time, some were better than others, some good special effects, but some of the rooms disappointing. You can also find yourself part of the act so beware of you don't like being made to look silly. I was hoping for more scares and laughs.

Thank you for your review after visiting one of our recent Dungeon Evening events in 2021 - certainly this is a fairly new venture for us so we're continuously looking to develop the tours to make them even DARKER, SCARIER & ADULTIER! We absolutely will use this feedback, and all our other reviews (which fortunately are typically very positive) to drive the product forwards for our exclusive, evening tours... p.s. an evening with NO CHILDREN in the depths of the Dungeon certainly is a good escape and worth the three stars at least!

Fantastic service from staff and actors. We walked past on Monday morning and 6 year old son wanted to go in the Dungeons however we told him he was too Young. We mentioned this to the two members of staff who were setting up for the day outside the entrance. They said they wouldn't recommend as he was still too young but the guided walking tours of the city were just starting up today and we could book that. Even though they were not officially open they let us, book and told us to cone back for 3pm. We got back at 3pm to be told that no one else had booked and at this point we thought it would be cancelled however they still did the tour just for us with two actors. The two actors played there parts really really well and we had such a great time with them from the ghoulish and horrific too the humour side. We were all fully entertained from start too finish. Brilliant customer service and brilliant staff. Thank you very much.

We visited with 10yo and had a great time! We didn’t know what to expect but glad we chose to visit. The actors were superb and seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the visitors. We will be recommending to friends and family and will hopefully return for the evening sessions when child is older.

We used the Kellogg vouchers to buy tickets online, but it would’ve been great value at full price.

A superb review... we do love it when you peasants/guests enter the Dungeon not knowing what to expect! We especially love it when we gently persuade (with the help of our resident Torturer) & convert you to becoming Dungeon superfans! All excellent feedback regarding the experience & our great value for money; and we'll certainly pass your kind (eughhh) words onto our despicable rogues & rascal actors. p.s. will you dare return to the Dungeon again one day!

My boyfriend and I had a great time in the York Dungeons over the weekend - from the moment one of the actors walked next to me in the entrance hall and shouted 'boo', and I screamed - the first of many - I knew it would be a good day! The audience interactions were really fun, the history covered was interesting and you could tell the actors really enjoyed their jobs. If you enjoy a fright and you're thinking of going, put it this way... after we left, we checked my boyfriend's smart watch and his heart rate was raised the entire time we were in there. We nipped into a pub next door to calm down afterwards haha! It's very fun, would recommend to anyone! Have a spooky time!

Unfortunately no pictures to accompany this review due to no mobile phones or photography throught the venue.

So, right from the main entrance. The staff on front we're fantastic and helpful. I was trying to purchase through my bluelight card as I receive discount for this place. The staff we're informative and very helpful.

So once inside the dungeons, the mood was very dark and eerie. You walk round in small groups, which is certainly advantageous lol. There are a total of 10 rooms you walk through, each providing a different theme of horror. Even down to the smells, you are drawn in and genuinely feel the mood and fear.

Throughout our venture within the dungeons, I was called up by the actors and actresses 3 times. This was very much to my wife's delight aswell haha. Both make up and acting was superb by all the staff.

The 9th room was the stand out of the whole venture though. This to me was worth the whole fee alone. I believe its the new one with the witch whom was a local resident in the 1600s. Now without spoiling anything, the act itself was an absolute masterpiece of nightmare's. The acting, the mood within 5 minute show was sublime. I love my horror films, and this really draws you in and you genuinely feel the fear. The female actress was fantastic! I've never seen anything like genuinely. I'm even sat there looking around and everyone, like me is captivated with fear and intrigue. If it wasn't for wanting to get out of the room so quick when the door opened, I would of given her a round of applause. Fantastic!

All in all this place was brilliant, and thoroughly enjoyed by myself and my wife. I did look at the entry price at first and thought it was expensive. But genuinely, it's worth it and pleased I went.

Ingenious and wicked fun! Took an early birthday trip to York. Can’t visit the city without a trip to the Dungeon! Though I’d originally resigned myself to missing out on this occasion.

My friend surprised me by booking the tour (I had no idea you were doing these!)
As always you lot delivered 100%
The Black Jester and Smedley brought the history to life through sheer performance. Lunch time in York with the weather yesterday was busy and it was all drowned out by the engaging, hilarious and mesmerising performances!
You both must have been roasting in those outfits!

Well done to you guys for putting this together and anyone considering the walk should go for it you won’t be disappointed. My friend and I both work for the NHS and you brought us both some much much needed smiles and joy!
Can’t wait to visit again when you’ve reopened fully.
Smedley, you’re adorable! Keep singing !

Look left, look right and don’t be an idiot !

LOOK LEFT, LOOK RIGHT, LOOK ABOVE for a FANTASTIC REVIEW (and still don't be an idiot!) Thank you for your excellent 5 star review of our brand-spanking NEW York Dungeon Walking Tours. We will pass on your kind words to our actors... the notorious Black Jester and disgusting peasant Smedley have loved being back to enthral & entertain all our guests (even on the hottest of days)! We're so pleased that we could help you with some much needed smiles and joy after what has clearly been such a challenging year. All you NHS workers & beyond have inspired us throughout the last year or so, so if we can provide some entertainment & escapism for you finally then please do enjoy! We await your return to the true darkest depths of the York Dungeon...

Your actors are a credit to you, full of enthusiasm for their roles and honestly as someone who wasn't sure beforehand I enjoyed it more than I'd anticipated. I will say however I did feel a bit sick after one room with a lot of flashing lights, my fault for not sitting that one out I think. That being said, there are a lot of uneven floors to walk also, it's quite dark as you would expect so you must be careful of your footing. You can be ushered through these halls at quite a pace, there's also certain things you can't participate in if you have a bad back or bad legs and so on so please take note of this for your visit.

Visited here the day before the floods. We were surprised how quiet it was around lunchtime during the school holidays. The actors were really good and very informative tour. We have previously visited the Edinburgh Dungeons and this one was similar but of course different history and tweaked to be different. Fully wheelchair accessible (manual wheelchair not sure about electric ones) don’t be put off with the stairs. The staff are sooooo helpful and they cannot do enough to help you. To get into the experience they put a ramp over the stairs for you. Then there is a stair lift to get you up to start the experience. You can stay in your wheelchair but the smaller the wheelchair the better as some areas are slightly tight. You start by getting your photos taken and you move between a couple of rooms before you arrive at the second stairs. Again these stairs have a stair lift and they get you back onto street level and you then stay on street level. A member of staff is there waiting for you and helped us down. You then move between the rest of the rooms and when you enter the wagon again staff are waiting there you and they have already placed a ramp down for you to get into wagon. Very good with their timings they knew exactly where you would be at each time. All actors were very accommodating and I think the other members of staff must have warned the actors that a wheelchair was in the that specific tour as they waited until we were all back together and gave us the time and advise on where to put the wheelchair we needed. We would have been slightly quicker than others with disabilities as we could just carry the wheelchair up and down the stairs and didn’t need the stair lift just needed to take time using the stairs but if you do then don’t panic about holding people up you have plenty of time if you need it. Only one wheelchair is permitted on each tour which is understandable as in some areas there are specific areas to put it. Great experience and I will tell people to go and enjoy it. When we were finished and still in the gift shop a member of staff came and asked us if we were ok and if we enjoyed it they really do look after you. I thought the staff behind the photo counter could have been slightly nicer as a first impression especially the one that served us he looked really shocked when he saw the family member in the wheelchair but when he served us he was polite in the end and spoke to all of us. I know first impressions can be wrong so I just think these staff members need to be bit more mindful in the future.

An excellent review of your recent visit to the Dungeon with some great detail for all future peasant guests (particularly those who may also require a wheelchair accessibility-wise for the attraction). We will always do what we can to accommodate any additional needs for our guests and it's perfect to hear that overall our staff were so helpful on your visit and our procedures worked smoothly for your journey through the depths of the attraction. All great feedback and we shall pass this onto our team accordingly!

My 6 year old granddaughter and I did the Trick & Treat walking tour. we were not sure what to expect or how far we would go but it was great, a real family enjoyable experience. The jester and his sidekick were excellent, They worked so hard to not only tell us the 'horrible' histories of York but to generally entertain and keep the children fully engaged. The prizes and little activities helped along the way too. I was concerned about the distance we travelled across the city and through crowds on a saturday afternoon but the two kept us safe and all together - no mean feat on the bust streets of York! The information was pitched just at the right level for the young children and adults alike, spiking it with some toilet humour and corny jokes which the children loved of course. The dungeon itself is not for young ones BUT this tour certainly fits the bill. I think they should do it for school visits too - the kids would love it. Thank you York Dungeon for doing something for younger families - oh and dogs too!

We've always thought it's a little bit harsh to only have a Trick OR a Treat... so we've gone for BOTH! We're delighted you've recently enjoyed our family-friendly Trick & Treat City Walking Tour and we'll certainly pass your kind words onto our resident Jester and his smelly sidekick 'Smedley' the Peasant! Hysterically HORRIBLE storytelling leaving all the gory bits in from our city's murky history - especially great to hear we've hit that balance for adults & young children alike! p.s. we certainly can do it for school visits as well p.s.s. the more (well-behaved) dogs the better in our minds! p.s.s.s. a perfect way to explore the beauty (and ugly) of York!

4 of us visited the Dungeons on a prebooked trip. I'd definitely recommend. It was entertaining, informative & spooky with lots of audience interaction. The actors were fab & stayed in character throughout. Fun day out.
If there was one criticism, it would be to make it a little scarier but that's my own personal choice as I'm a scare fan. This does not detract from the experience though. My friend found it scary & gripped my arm throughout.
Will definitely return for the evening show.

You BRAVE brave BRAVE soul... even whilst your friend gripped your arm through the terrors & scares within the dark & murky walls of the Dungeon... you're declaring your need for even more SCARE!? Perhaps it is our 18+ Dungeon Lates evenings (darker... scarier... adultier...) that could be your next trip to our truly bleak attraction! We certainly thank you for these 5 stars (dots?!) of our THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE & always very finely balanced SCARY FUN experience! p.s. perhaps some nightmares of poor Isabella Billington (our resident Witch) will convince you of the scares within...
