We unfortunately arrived before opening time as we had planned to do so much in such a short time but we did see the outside of the building, walk through the gardens, we saw part of the city wall which was enough to get the feeling of the history

£15 for a family of 4 so not bad value, but we were only in there for 40 minutes. Unfortunately not much to keep the kids interested. Well maintained and clean though.

Due to only having 1.5hrs to spend in the museum I had to concentrate on the Roman and Viking displays, which were very impressive, well displayed and labelled.

A very expensive museum: in effect £15 to take one child round. A very disappointing museum - compared with those in Hull, for instance, which are free and much better laid out. No guides. No concession charges except for people on benefits. People from York, visit Hull, the art gallery and museums are free even for you. Tourists being ripped... More

The grounds are really nice and full of history - however £7.50 to walk around something you're not sure you if you'd enjoy is not a risk I'd take

My husband and I had a walk through the gardens today and stopped to watch a bird of prey display which was really nice and the gardens are really well kept.

We really enjoyed the history of York that goes back to Roman times with a lot of artifacts that were found in the city. Somewhat small but high quality collection that is nicely presented. Beautiful grounds with several historic ruins and buildings.

Lots of different exhibitions to see, very good! Dinosaurs went down well with our kids. Not too big a place so can be part of your day trip to other places!
