York Terror Trail, a history tour of the horrors of York. There is a monster, 1900 years old, thousands have died in its name. Like all the best masters of disguise it’s gone by many names: Eboracum, Eoforvic, Jorvic… today we just call it York. It has many weapons: battles, murders, terrible accidents and deliberate neglect. This city has two sides, the one it wants you to see and the one it doesn’t. It hides it down back streets and in the corner of your eye. We shouldn’t want to see it but we do. The terror trail can show it to you…The tour starts 6.45pm every night from York’s most haunted pub the Golden Fleece Inn.Adults: £5Children: £2

Rollercoaster of a walk, way better than ghosts!

I echo much of what others say, that this walking tour of the factual macabre things that have happened in York, are way more interesting than the ghost tales can be. Our guide was so interesting, could go from terrifying, to funny, to heart breaking all in the space of 2 minutes. Makes you think about the world today and... More

We had such a great time with Damian. The tour was informative, highly entertaining, and thought provoking. It was the highlight of our York visit! Our only regret was that we had to leave early to make a dinner reservation and didn't have time to share a beer with the group at the end.

Happened on this by chance as was having a quick drink in the Golden Fleece. Although my wife and i initially thought it was going to be a ghost trail it turned out that the darker side of York life through the ages was the subject of this experience. The guides are very well versed in York's history and deliver... More

Lasted for over two hours ! Was well worth the £5 ! Our tour guide Damien was really fun and clued up on Yorks dark history ! , The unique aspect of the tour is that you get to see what is hidden yet right before your eyes ! Look for the butcher hooks and red devil ! I would... More

Our tour guide tonight, James was brilliant. He made it clear from the start that this was not a ghost tour but a dark look at York's murderous and bloody past and his story telling did not disappoint. Although the tour was not scary (we have been on many and have not been scared during any of these walks), we... More

A very entertaining hour and a half. We started and ended at the Golden Fleece. An historical trip into Yorks gorier past. I now know how to hang draw and quarter someone if the need should arise. Well worth the £5.

Very different to what I thought it would be like. Summer not the best time to visit, as it doesn't add to the atmosphere. Damien a very good actor told stories about the terrors that happened in york. Very informative and group work was entertaining. Made me laugh alot. My partner was also involved in participating. He enjoyed it too.... More

We deliberately chose this tour because of the historical aspect of it. Wasn't interested in seeing "The Most Haunted [INSERT LOCATION] of York." Our tour guide, James, was fantastic! He somehow made the icky things that people did entertaining. He involved both of my daughters (ages 13 and 8) in some of the stories and they thought that was very... More
