Creepy!
Oct 2014 • Couples
I was so nervous about visiting 35 Stonegate as I had heard good, creepy things about it! I was also shown photo's of inside with the entire pictures filled with orbs! I went to Stonegate on valentines day & was given a cute little book for free, so already I was impressed. As I was waiting to go through to the main house I began to feel very anxious, with excitement and with fear!
Although the tour of the house was very eerie, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the voice overs and learning about the history of the place.
If you want to feel that little bit creeped out but without the nonsense of actors jumping around then this is for you.
It's such a shame to hear it has closed down, was a fantastic york attraction.

I.T.S Still closed after being redeveloped and is still For Let, all the Paranormal Teams miss Stonegate.
Aug 2015 • Family
We all loved Stonegate and were part of the last Team to hold a Public event before it closed.

We still make a pilgrimage to the doorway when in town.

It is sad that it still lies closed, yes we are grateful that it was saved from falling apart but still know what lies inside.

Still For Let although rumours of it being opened as a Jewelery and knick Knack store are gaining momentum with the company starting to recruit staff for ITS new shop in York.

Still looks odd all white but lets hope the Black detailing goes back on when it reopens.

Bye for now Stonegate, see you soon.

Was shocked, when visiting York a few months ago, to see this has now closed down. I never wrote a review before, but funnily enough came across some photographs of when I visited 3 years ago, when I was a uni student living in York.

I went 4 or 5 times, and every time I had a different experience (only 2 spooky experiences though).
The one that sticks out in my mind was in the seance room; I was videoing me and my friends on the Ouija board. It was a silly 5 second video. However, when watching it back a few months ago, right at the end I can hear a child laughing. I absolutely promise, there was NO children on the recording, and neither me or my friends laughed like that. Another time in the seance room, I felt someone behind my left shoulder. I then felt a "blow" on my neck and felt pressure on my shoulder. My friend was on the right of me.

All in all great fun! Such a shame.

Missing this place.
Used to visit regularly. A wonderful house filled with history and ghosts. Whether you believe or not it truly was a stunning place. The tour was fun and very creepy. The shop was unique and a fabulously different alternative to the usual shops. Absolutely wonderful and still sad it has gone. I hope its new owners will re-open it as haunted but if not... well im sure the ghosts will make them feel at home. ;)

Could have been much better, very hokey
Jun 2014 • Couples
Haunted House - Best thing about this was the store at the entry, even if over-priced. Some of the stained glass was nice, so was the structure/wood work and some of the furnishings - we had to use the flashlight on our phones to see most of the good things about this attraction. Rest was very hokey and not worth the time - most of the tour was in the dark with a taped voice trying to sound spooky. Would have been better with a guide and lights to explain why haunted houses were so important to medieval England. Not for people who are unsteady on their feet - narrow stairs and uneven floors. Might be too dark and scary for very young children as well.

Shame it has gone ...

We visited this fantastic little shop and haunted experience earlier in 2014. The supply of wiccan and other items was a nice addition and as we browsed we decided that perhaps we should brave the haunted house it's self. The price was not so bad for the students I was with, but I paid the full price. On entering the house, it was interesting to see the other views of the people we were with. The two sceptics, screaming towards the end, while we hardened paranormal people enjoyed the show. My friend saw a few strange things and a little girl in the corner of one room. We would of visited again, but alas it is no going to be flats or something. Hopefully, one day the ghosts will appear again.

A little gem of York - what a waste to convert it into flats!!

I've visited this house twice. It is so atmospheric and interesting both historically and supernaturally. The first time my husband and I loved it and really enjoyed the experience without encountering anything paranormal. The second time was a couple of years later when we took friends to see it. We all enjoyed it again but this time my husband had taken his digital camera and fired off shots throughout our visit.
Nothing occurred until we got to the small wainscoted room near the end of the tour. All this room had in it as far as I remember was a cheval glass. I said to my husband to take some shots of that showing my reflection. He took one pointing the camera at the mirror, checked the result and showed it to me. The room and mirror had disappeared. All we could see was a grey mist, not a blanket grey but patchy, denser in some areas than others. We both agreed it was weird and he took another shot which this time was a true replica of the room, the mirror and my reflection in it. We looked forward to viewing the "weird" shot later along with all the others he had taken.
Within a half hour all four of us sat in the Punch Bowl with a drink, discussing our visit with enthusiasm, and he began to go through the pics he had taken. All were normal - no orbs or anything out of the ordinary - except for the misty shot. That had completely disappeared...
That was four years ago. We usually visit York every couple of years as we love it but we haven't been back since due to other commitments. I would have loved to have gone back on our next trip to see what results we could get but alas, now, it won't be there, and all the "ghosts" and spirits will have been laid to rest. What a waste!!

I'll start by saying i am one of the biggest sceptics out there nothing scares me and i don't believe in ghosts. But on entering the house in the first room ,which i might add is well lit up and not at all scary , i suddenly started to feel very strange, felt sick ,light headed and generally not feeling well, also a horrible smell was lingering .I put up with it for as long as i could but felt the need to get out of that room as soon as possible.I carried on the tour but ive got to say i was pleased when i got out of there. Its got to be one of the strangest things that's ever happened to me and to this day i just cant explain what went off .
It was well worth the visit and I am glad i had the chance to experience it.
I have just come back from york this weekend with my girlfriend hoping to go in there again to see if I had the same experience ,but was disappointed to find it has now shut down and going to be turned into holiday apartments ,i can tell you this i won't be staying there.
Or maybe i might give it ago with a back up hotel booked.

Scary

I loved it here despite being scared. The way it's done is brilliant. You look around it in your group and each time you enter a room a speaker tells you about the history etc. Would definately visit again.

What a pity it is closing
Aug 2014 • Family
Went to this as part of the York Pass system - very different and very enjoyable. It is closing sometime in August and that is a bit of a shame.
