About
The Ghostwalk was established before 1973 and was an original creation believed to be the first in the world. We promise a unique opportunity to discover the hidden magic of our ancient City through the real art of storytelling. Tales are drawn from the immense history of York and are told against a backdrop of haunting beauty. We walk in the very footsteps of those who have passed before.

A must do if you visit York. Wrap up warm as it is around an hour and half. We chose to do this in winter because it adds to the mystique. Very informative walk and brilliant host who kept us entertained. One thing we found very disappointing is that it was a very large crowd and it was very obvious there were some tight wads. It was a fiver! Pay the man. We saw quite a few people of dubious character avoid paying. Shame on them. It was only £5 and it was cheaper for kids, students and OAP's.

We had a great tour of York's ghost's and the walk was a lot of fun. The host - Mark was very entertaining and gave us a great insight into the history of York. Both my husband and I thought this was a great idea especially since the tour began at 8pm and finished around 9.15pm, and with lockdown and most shops currently closing by 4pm / 5pm, this gave us something to do in the evening in York city.
Fun for all ages. Adult charged were £6 and concessions were £5. For a little money it's a great way to see the sights of York in the evening! Highly recommended.

I booked the ghost walk for a large corporate group who were staying in York for a meeting. Our guide Mark met us at our hotel and took us into The centre of York stopping along the way with stories at certain points of interest. Having booked many tours for corporate groups in my PA role, this was absolutely the BEST! Mark is fantastic and should be on stage! His timing & delivery when telling tales of ghostly activity is brilliant, he had the whole group hanging by his every word and so much humour too! The group all said it was the best part of the whole 2 day event and we would all recommend to anyone visiting York.

I must say we weren’t up for a ghost walk around York on a dark, cold, rainy Saturday night. How wrong we were !
It was my first time on a ghost walk and I didn’t really know what to expect so I was very surprised how our guide took us away from the cold, rainy Saturday night and brought the ghostly history of York to life with a combination of good natured humour and eerie chills from the get go. All very interesting stuff and definitely worth the money. I’m not too sure what some serial complainers were expecting from this ghost walk however I and my party absolutely loved it !

What a pleasant way to spend an evening. I did this ghost walk over 20 years ago, so I was curious about how it may had changed. I am delighted to report that the format is still the same, some of the stories are still there plus a few new ones and updates on one or two of the old ones. The guide was friendly, informative, and an excellent story teller, had the adults and children alike, all spellbound. He also took the time to talk to each party individually and was happy to answer questions.
TIP.... if you can, go for the 8pm walk rather than the early one, so very atmospheric at sunset and after dark...
The family had lots to talk about on the way home, a highly recommended tour. (No one jumps out to scare you...like other walks, great for kids)

Thank you Gary for your kind words . I am pleased you appreciate that it is the art of storytelling and suggestion that creates the atmosphere. Hope to see you again but don't leave it 20 years.

Each year as part of our school trip to York we include the ghost walk. Mark Graham has a talent for telling the stories to grip an audience with an appropriate “jump factor” in just the right place. Children and adults are gripped! Entertaining and a great way to see parts of York you might otherwise miss. This is a great activity on any visit to York. Not to be missed!

Mark Graham was really good. He led a private tour of 5 adults and 3 kids and tailored the story really well.
We explored the back streets and heard some great tales of old York.
He was an excellent tour guide, great with the kids and a lovely man.
Thanks for a very enjoyable evening.

First of all, the price of £5 for an hour plus tour was excellent value for money. The guide, Mark, was amazing, very informative and provided genuinely scary stories. Good locations throughout and plenty of history as well to give the spooky stories context. Guide made the tour very personal and made us feel welcome.

Our tour was great, we had some typical English weather to start with, but the guide was so enthusiastic, it did not dampen our spirts.
I would really recommend this tour, a great mix of ghost and foul doings, added some history and theoretical humour and presence from the tour guide.
Was real fun.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Ghost tour conducted by Patrick. He provided a great mixture of stories, history and visits to several haunted locations around the city centre. Patrick was very captivating and entertaining with his scary tales and some disturbing descriptions of what went on many years ago. A great way to spend 90 minutes and should suit adults and children seeking a slightly scary evening. We revisited some of the places the following day hoping to see the ghosts for ourselves !!

How long in time is the walk.
As I would like to book dinner after.
Thank you.
Written November 28, 2018
It finished about 9.30/ 10. The guide answered questions after and wasn't in a rush to leave so I would suggest eating before as it starts at 8pm.
