To the previous reviewer who said it was a pub for the locals, well it is and as for the bad language I've heard far far worse from so called posh pubs. It's as simple as this you didn't have to go in there if you didn't like it go somewhere else, my wife and I along with my daughter and son in law went in there over Easter and had a great time the landlord and his wife were extremely warm and friendly supplying water for my dog. The locals were great giving my dog .treats ,it's a down to earth with lovely locals who went out of their way to make us feel welcome I would not hesitate to use the pub next time I'm in Whitby

Pretty awful... went in and ordered to a table couldnt even look at beer pumps. Woman was harsh and rude. Why employ a person with out sny customer service skills and a covid marshall! Tables sticky..

Cash only. Barman sits down playing with his mobile in between customers. Only redeeming feature was it was warm on a bitterly cold January night….

Well what can I say ? !
Firstly we were greeted by the most awful swearing by the locals and barman . No music playing . Dirt everywhere . A dirtbag of a dog running around loose that sometimes was jumping on the window sill or even stood on our table at times !
Enter this place at your peril !!!!

Really nice and special old world pub in Whitby. Lovely decor and friendly staff made it a pleasure to have a drink and look at the pictures and decor. Lovely cobble streets outside and I would personally recommend to anyone. Lovely frontage of an old coaching inn.

During our summer holiday in Whitby, myself and partner found we had a rare half hour to ourselves whilst our toddler had fallen asleep in the buggy. We headed for the nearest beer garden which happened to be the Black Swan Inn. This was the perfect place with a spacious, clean beer garden, polite and friendly staff with reasonable pint prices. Would recommend to anyone and will be sure to visit again next time we're in the area.
