Landlady’s contempt for customers a disgrace.

Spotted there was live entertainment on here one Saturday evening so we scheduled a visit. The entertainment was Sam Jones, a rock/punk singer and guitarist who’s repertoire and style are clear from his own Facebook and YouTube pages.
Sam set up and began his set, performing a mixture of his own work and a few covers. He was clearly a very talented musician, most comfortable when performing.
Around 30 mins into his set, a woman, I assume was the owner, came up and began what was clearly a very awkward conversation. She had no idea what the repertoire of Sam was and was requesting he changed his set. Of course, Sam declined and said he would just stop, and quite rightly so. She had no concern that people may have come that night, to watch the act as advertised.
It is incredible, that in these times, where public houses are just beginning to recover post lockdown, that she would create this situation, which effectively ended our evening in her establishment. I can only guess the proprietors have more money than sense.

Huge (and I mean HUGE portions)
Jul 2021
The portions are so big that they serve the fish in a special fish-shaped plate surrounded by lots of chips. Same with whatever else you order. Staff is nice and advise you of this to avoid food waste (the pub is mainly visited by locals). Never been so full after a meal out. Good locations just on the top of the hill from the touristic bit of Whitby.

Poor does not cover it !!!😕

Well I raved about this the last 3 times and we all commented on how bad this was - the roast dinners were palatable which is more than I can say for the steak pie !!!! It’s left over roast beef in dishwater at best !!!
It has a suet top which is like an old dried out bath sponge 🧽 and really should be described better as this is not everyone’s cup of tea !
We have seen this place under a lot more pressure than a Monday tea time and some one seriously needs to speak to the bar maid upstairs as she has most definitely had a personality bypass not to mention a total lack of basic manners! Unacceptable !!!
I have read poor reviews on the staff before but never witnessed it until today
It’s a shame it was wholesome home cooked food but now it’s nothing short of corner cutting - for god sake the broccoli was raw never mind aldente - and we all agreed on this !!

Visiting on a Friday night, we enjoyed a warm welcome, a good choice of quality beers and an excellent gammon, chips & onion rings.

Best it ever been for food

Been going here for 11 years to eat and it was lovely then vaule for money and good taste food. Over the years it went down hill but the prices and portion sizes always stayed the same.
Last time I was in I left a review on Google saying never again as it was like a dog show.
So today though I would give it another go and glad I did prices still the same and portion sizes still the same but the meals was very tasty fresh vegetables.
Dogs where still aloud in but in the bottom bar. So it felt more like a restaurant a place you want to eat rather than a dog kenal smelling of wet dogs.
Staff friendly as they have always been throw out the years. And the place was clean like it used to be.
I don't mind dogs but don't think I should have to eat around them or get my clothing covered in dog hair. So I think it's a great idea having them only in 1 bar.
Will definitely be back.
Chicken roast dinner with all the trimmings
And chicken curry +chips nan bread
Pint coke and a coffee
£22 how can you go wrong at that.
Seems to me as if someone have taken this over hope it's not a 1 off

Food at the Granby.

If you want a roast dinner, this is the place to come. We stopped at the Chiltern Guest House round the corner and had the roast dinner on our first evening - Sunday. Roast Chicken, Pork or Beef with about 10 veg! The fish and chips also look huge and freshly cooked - on the table next to us. A very nice pint of ale as well. Service was very good. Thank you Granby!

What was a lovely place to visit serving food, is now appalling
Menus on the table out of date, blackboard menu...most items missing
Jacket potato....with chilli on menu....not available....jacket with cheese on the board.....only half the potato was hot....when I complained the woman with the curly hair just shrugged and gave no explanation..........hardly any customers in the pub... poor customer service...staff more interested in using their phones.......won't visit again

Good Food & Ale!
May 2018 • Friends
We always start our visits to Whitby with a meal and drink up at The Granby pub up near the West Cliff B&B area...

Great pub, even though decor bit worn & dated... what makes this pub is the excellent food & drink on offer - which is the main thing you want from a pub...

This time we started off with scampi dishes and pie & chips from the varied menu... these were washed down with a couple pints of Cameron's Strongarm whilst the ladies enjoyed minature bottles of presecco...

The pub offers various drinking options including 3 or 4 cask ales... accommodation is also on offer here...

Well worth a visit when in Whitby...

Warnout and so on...

It was the online availble room in the town. I'm sorry to say so, but this was worden thanx expected. The room had a shower stuck in between a niche in the wall. There was no proper bathroom and the wc is share with 4-5 other rooms. The rooms are located above the pub were they play the music loudly, you might even vibrate in your bed. They're also turned towards the street, which means you'll enjoy al the street noise. Al-in-al a rather horrible experience.
