Pannett Park is well cared for and easy to find. It is built on a hill but everything in Whitby is on one hill or another. Well worth a visit.

Only tree cover. There is a pergola by the pond, but nothing that offers full cover.

Family friendly ideas - August with 1 and 4 year old (5 Replies)
Staying in Whitby, just across the road from Pannett Park, for a week in August and researching best places to visit as a family. What are your best suggestions for us, bearing in mind we have an energetic 4 year old boy (who loves pirates, slides and superheroes in that order) and a little girl who'll be 1. Many thanks in advance for your replies.

There is a "pirate" type boat that goes for short trips from the harbour. The museum is nice. The Abbey is worth a visit, especially making the 199 steps an adventure on the way up! I used to love fossil hunting on Robin Hoods Bay beach (but be aware of tide times) as a child. The steam buses that run around the town might amuse as well. There is huge park at Scarborough for slides.

Whitby...for the third time (12 Replies)
My friend and I will be travelling to England next May/June. We usually do a three day stay in York, using it as a base to the general area. We've been to Whitby twice, and have done the major attractions, and were wondering what could be seen for a third visit? The thought of not coming to Whitby seems "wrong", somehow, it's so beautiful there, but at the same time, we don't like to wander aimlessly and really need some sites to make the two hour bus ride worthwhile. We are considering...More

How much do you like walking? There are great scenic walks in either direction along the clifftops from Whitby, to lovely villages like Robin Hoods Bay, etc. See the Cleveland Way National Trail for details. Buses will connect you back to Whitby or on to your destination.
