STEP BACK IN TIME

This quaint church is well worth visiting. The interior is fascinating with its box pews and grand pulpit, it's like stepping back in time.

Lovely church, very quiet and informative. Lovely lady on the gift counter desk. Very peaceful inside even though there were lots of visitors. Lovely old box pews. Which you couldn't sit in.

When you climb the 199 steps up to the abbey at Whitby, go into the church. It is free to enter (unlike the abbey) and there is some fascinating history there. Well worth a visit.

After the now famous walk up the 199 steps to the wonderfully picteresque St Mary's Church, steeped in a history of culture and mystery. The grave stones offer the visitor a pathway in the past, it's quirky natural corrosion of some stones and the near perfect preservation of similarly placed others. Time has caught up in areas of this fine... More

Above the harbour, dominating the south cliff is St Mary's Church. It is inviting you to find out more. The steps up are steep and demanding for most but there are benches at regular intervals. But the church is a delight. Inside is unique. Box pews and galleries added to accommodate the swelling congregation of a prosperous port are what... More

Well worth the walk up the steps to gain an insight into the history of Whitby, the Abbey and the views are also stunning.

Came here after our visit to the Whitby Abbey. The church inside is beautiful and interesting. I specifically enjoyed walking around the extensive graveyard raedy some of the headstones. At the top of the graveyard you can also enjoy some fantastic views or head down to the 199 steps if you brave enough.

Well worth a look when going past. Nice stained glass and Celtic cross in the graveyard. Church has loads of history with plaques giving you information and great aged interior.
