Peaceful walk in a green and pleasant land
Oct 2020
A peaceful and relaxing walk south of Settle: a kingfisher shot out from under the bridge as I walked down to the stile on Station Road, which made a lovely start to the walk. The path is well-defined (and not too muddy when I went) and follows the river bank looking across to trees in their autumn colours. Further on there were lovely views of Penyghent and Ingleborough as you walk through fields of contented cows. It is quiet here even when there are more visitors further north of Settle.

Nice place to go for a run
Aug 2020 • Solo
Lovely place to go for a run, well maintained paths and pretty scenery. It’s nice and flat so a good place to walk with pushchairs and wheelchairs.

A golden opportunity for a riverside walk on foot, on bike, on trike, pushchair, wheelchairand take the dog too. Feed the ducks, spot the heron or kkingfisher, sit a listen to the birdsong& River Ribble as it rushes past. Easy access for all. Shortcut for local residents to the shopping area must give added pleasure to the weekly shop.

A beautiful river to explore both sides of Settle.
Sep 2019
The river Ribble flows right through Settle and is a joy to explore. The northern direction is better traveled but the southerly side less so. Even through Settle itself is pleasant enough if your less mobile. Follow the signs and check your map for the southern route and you'll enjoy this river as it meanders south.

Day walk to Stainforth.
May 2019 • Couples
Lovely riverside walk in both directions. A fine tea shop at Stainforth and the Stainforth falls on the way are a great spot to sit and contemplate the wonders of nature. Especially the men in rubber suits leaping in the river!! Take your wet-suit if you wish but stout boots and a light back-pack would probably be more useful. A fine, fine walk.

very pleasant

Lovely little place with different privately-run shops, which is always worthwhile. Parking is free for 2 hours with a display card, & that’s enough for a gentle saunter around the centre.
There’s a pleasant riverside walk as well, but we were on a mission to get back to our hotel so couldn’t do it all.
Picked up a very good little guide book on Settle, which we used to explore the town & the riverside walk. Will revisit & use the guide book as a starting point to investigate all the other places to visit in the surrounding areas

Pleasant stroll both near town and up the dale.
Oct 2018 • Couples
Finding the starting point for the near town stroll was difficult since access is via a small housing estate from the point we were aiming for but from then on it was easy going, mainly level, safe and with several 'leaving points' if needed. The longer walk from the town to Stainforth was lovely even if we were still too early to see any salmon leaping up Stainforth Force. Mid October on is best apparently.

This was a really nice walk along the river and if you take the path far enough there are great views of Penn y Ghent. Very enjoyable.

A circuit in Settle
Jan 2018 • Solo
For locals and visitors to the area, this is an ideal walk, on the level, and alongside the picturesque Ribble. This river has the swiftest rise and fall of any in the UK, owing to the predominant limestone between Settle and Ribblehead where the river starts: the rain drains swiftly through the rock so when it is heavy for a prolonged period the water rises, and can on occasion come over the path adjacent to Settle Academy; within a few hours, however, it can drop markedly.
