About
Hidden away from view at the top of London St. is Norwich's most unique and well loved bar. The former ravecave kartel has grown up and transformed itself into Gonzo's Tea Room. Coffee Tea's and cakes by day, Bar/Lounge in the evening and often the furniture gets dragged away to create a dancefloor that goes well into the night closing at 3am weekdays and 3:30am weekends.

We took my in-laws for lunch and had a wonderful afternoon. To be honest, the in-laws don’t go out often and they were thoroughly impressed by the decor (kitch!) and the food (beyond delicious) and the SERVICE! Levi was a super chill, warm, guy who we enjoyed chatting with. It’s nice to see someone who is good at their job because they like it. What a gem.
Also, the owner (a fellow Canadian) probably has a thousand stories to tell and the walls of this joint barely scratch the surface… 🇨🇦
Do try: lemon pepper wings, tatanka burger, traditional poutine, and/or the Fat Elvis

We have been to Gonzo’s several times and the burgers are amazing. Visit last weekend was no exception. I had no hesitation in telling the very friendly waitress that it was probably the best chicken burger I’d ever had. I had the Fat Elvis without cranberry sauce. The waitress said it was no problem to take the cranberry out. Fun location, delicious food, friendly staff. Look forward to going again.

Headed to Gonzo’s for our Valentines Day meal this year after never being before! Honestly, was rather skeptical about the reviews about the bouncers being off on the door…
However we had a really lovely evening, bouncers were not on the door and all staff were lovely - especially our server who had dreadlocks (unfortunately didn’t catch his name!), he was fabulous, funny and really made us feel relaxed.
The starters - the Dixie chicken strips with red coleslaw & the sweetie pie chicken bites were both incredible, it literally was melt in your mouth chicken, probably the best chicken we have ever had out. Really large portions too.
For mains we both had burgers, we had the Fat Elvis and the Grant Holt, both with loaded fries which were again huge portions and loads of toppings, we had to take our leftovers home! Would definitely have both again.
You are allocated the table for 1.5 hours, which in most instances would be enough but given it was Valentine’s Day we felt a bit rushed as we came in 6pm, waited for our drinks etc and then our food came out at 7pm, only 30 minutes to eat our mains before needing to leave.
I would also love to have seen a desert menu but they didn’t do deserts - everyone says there’s always room for desert! 😉
The decor on the ground floor was amazing once inside, really quirky. We loved the ice hockey game on the projector and the music and just overall vibe was amazing. A hidden gem of Norwich!
The only disappointment was the total bill, £96 for the 2 of us - drinking a gin, whiskey & coke and then a plain coke with our food. Also there was a 10% service charge added onto the bill and we felt as if we couldn’t remove the charge even though it was optional - more on us rather than the restaurant.
Overall 8/10 and would return for a special occasion. Thank you for the great service Gonzo’s! 🍔 🍟❤️

Before I start, I'd just like to point out that up until my last visit, I had been a huge fan of Gonzo's. I'd brought a lot of my friends from out of town to eat here on numerous occasions & it was always great. However, my last experience there was so poor, I honestly don't think I'll be back.
Also this has nothing to do with the food or drink served there as we got neither on our last visit. Again, in my experience, the food has always been very satisfying.
Gonzo's is a cool & trendy venue, which is very popular, and, like a lot of places like that, some of the staff come to believe that they work in a pretty rarified atmosphere. Unfortunately, I became a victim of that, and mightily embarrassing it was too.
I popped in late afternoon with my wife to see if there was a table available for a quick burger before we headed home. We hadn't booked, so I saw a server I recognised from having visited previously & asked about availability. In return for my temerity, I was looked up & down like I'd arrived naked as the day I was born & daubed in warpaint, the server then informed me that there were no tables whilst pulling a face over my shoulder at one of the barstaff then offering what I can only describe as the least sincere, most sardonic apology I've received in a goodly while, over one shoulder, whilst walking back behind the bar again to reignite her conversation with the bartender.
Now, I have zero objection to being told there was no availability, them's the breaks, we hadn't booked. However, when the staff at a venue start to take it upon themselves to deign to speak properly to the clientele according to how they feel, then quite honestly, the venue's got a problem in the making. I might look like a fat, young Captain Birdseye, but that's my business. If I don't deserve courteous treatment from the staff on the simple basis that I am a customer, then I'll eat burgers elsewhere.
It's actually made me a bit sad tbh, I used to really look forward to a cheeky Gonzo's but I'm afraid I'm clearly just not cool enough to chow down there anymore.

Welcoming staff, great atmosphere, they got us seated at the bar for drinks, barman Atti looked after us, he really knew his stuff and held a good conversation, we asked if we could eat at the bar, Atti checked in with the kitchen and they allowed us to do so, which was good of them, the food was great, the cocktails and the drinks were really good, highly recommended and we would go back again.

Visited with my sister as she lives here and has often been for drinks, said the food always looks amazing but hadn't eaten here, team were friendly and knew their menus inside out, unfortunately we couldn't eat here as we have a lot of allergies between the pair of us but we stayed for a few drinks witch were lovely and expertly prepared. Glad the team knew the menus as we could have been in trouble if we'd have each picked our normal safe options from their menu.

Met the owner in the bar in The Ivy. He said “ everyone ends up in Gonzos” and I think that saying will stick with me forever.
Popped in on the way back to our hotel and had a great time. Top 30 bar in the UK and I can understand why.
A memorable evening, and a fantastic bar that just had a sense of total enjoyment running through the people in there.
Great to see smiling happy people in a great location with great music.
One of those nights where you wake up the next day and think wow, that was just amazing.
Everyone must go to Gonzos at some point.

Stopped by after a very busy afternoon in the cold. Was very busy when we entered but to be expected leading up to Christmas and with the world cup being on too.
We got a table and the service was great. Could not fault it. The food came out quickly and the meat in the burgers are super fresh and tasty. You definitely get what you pay for because the portions are huge!
Would definitely come here again.
