Norwich Market is an attractive and vibrant mix of food, crafts, flowers, services and much more. One of the oldest and largest outdoor markets in the country, it has 190 stalls trading Monday to Saturday, with a handful open on Sundays. The first records of a market in Norwich, UK, date back to the 11th century. The Norwich Market has a long and rich history, making it one of the oldest and largest open-air markets in England. It has been a focal point of trade and commerce in the city for over a thousand years. Opening times may vary between stalls and on different days, this includes Bank Holidays.

- Dexx276 contributionsLots to buy with a particularly good Cheese StallA vist to Norwich always includes a visit to the market and in particular the Cheese Man stall. The wide range on offer includes three of our favourites, Cave aged Swiss Gruyère, French Comté and Dutch Old Gouda. Added to the lower than usual prices means with leave with a very generous supply to keep us going until the next visit.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 29, 2023

The vast majority of the stalls were food related, either cafes or selling food items, there was a very good cheese stall. When we visited there were lots of empty and closed stalls and the surrounding area was dirty and the toilets were filthy.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 28, 2024

One of the trips was to Norwich, we only had a few hours here, so on our free day we jumped the bus into Norwich from Great Yarmouth. We were very impressed by the size and scale of Norwich Town Centre. Great shopping area. We enjoyed the market, which has a good variation of goods on sale. Great eating venues within the market itself. We were very impressed with Norwich per sa.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 15, 2024
- T ThomasAttleborough, United Kingdom227 contributionsClassic, friendly and vibrant. As markets go, Norwich has to boast one of the brightest, oldest and busiest around! A variety of stalls from clothing, bags, fresh fruit and veg, seafood, vintage items, gift ideas and a choice of world foods including Chinese and of course fish and chips- the aromas as you walk through are enticing enough! And the best part… once you e grabbed said food you can sit above the market in the garden area overlooking it whilst full in the sun.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 27, 2024

We had to pass through the market ' en route ' to the Plantation garden. If only we had had more time ! You could easily spend an hour looking around the stalls and seeing the different street food on offer.
Next time we are in Norwich we will investigate further and report back!
Poss wee bit crowded wrt to Covid but most people were wearing masks and we felt v safe

Do not waste your time visiting, The Norwich markets are an embarrassment to the Norwich locals and to tourism. They are a horrible claustrophobic anxiety attack waiting to happen. The stalls are cheap and nasty selling horrible imported crap. The city council needs to improve the markets, make them a tourist attraction only selling local arts, crafts and fresh Norfolk food.

Bustling with activity & food markets abundant. I bought salad with steak from Chillys and it was really delicious! When talking with locals they confirmed that was the best place.
The market is semi enclosed and a lot of people didn’t wear masks, which probably isn’t the best. I made my visit very quick.
Shaded seating is hard to find. I snuck into the shaded church yard which is serviced by a pizza place - Brick. They have table ordering.

This is a very good market and I believe it has recently won awards for being so. The products and produce on sale is pretty much what you would expect of an outdoor market and I thought that the fruit and vegetables on display looked very good and there was also a nice range of fast food outlets.
The market stalls themselves are almost like some sort of beach hut design and, while I’ve no doubt that many will find them attractive, I’m not so keen. The colours are nice and bright, but I found that the solid sides and the close proximity of the stalls to one another restricted overall visibility. I like markets to feel wide and open, with the ability to see several stalls at once, but here it all felt a bit hemmed in.

Although allegedly one of the oldest and largest outdoor markets in the UK we were unfortunately not overly impressed. There is a fair selection of stalls selling the usual market type goods but we felt that it could have been so much better. This market does however have an abundance of street food/ fast food outlets so worth a visit at lunch time.

This is located next to the City Hall in the heart of Norwich. It is semi-covered with stalls set out in narrow columns. Go explore. There are many small independent traders and some great examples of street goods where the smells create a real fusion to tempt you.
We loved the market.

We last visited here many years ago.
It has changed, but not for the better.
Very few traditional market traders. Lots of fast food stalls.
The market is laid out in a regimented grid pattern.
The avenues between the stalls are narrower than most supermarket aisles!
Did I mention the food stalls? You can eat from almost any country in the world and stand in the narrow passageways, blocking the way of others.
This is no longer a traditional market.

What food is Norwich famous for
Written October 31, 2018
Coleman's Mustard is probably the most famous, although they've recently announced that they'd be moving production out of Norwich, but there is a lot more local produce from around Norfolk such as:
Cromer crab: North Norfolk is most famous for its Cromer crab. The reason they're so good is that the crabs feed off the unique chalk reef just off the coast at Cromer, producing the sweet taste the crab is so famous for.
Brancaster Mussels The mussels caught locally are large in size and incredibly tender.
Fish and chips: Norfolk has some of the best fish and chip shops. Often using locally caught, seasonal seafood,
Stiffkey cockles: These cockles are unique in colour and range from a dark grey to pale mauve which is due to their habitat – a little way under the sand and mud.
Beer: The best malting barley in the country is grown in north Norfolk.
Cheeses made locally and from local cows and goats and some of the finest cheeses come from north Norfolk. Norfolk Mardler and the range of Mrs Temples Cheeses including Binham Blue, Walsingham, Copys Cloud, Gurney’s Gold, Wighton and Wells Alpine.
Norfolk black turkey: healthy and versatile meat, historically, Norfolk is known for its poultry production because left over grain from the arable harvest was used to feed the birds.
Samphire: delicious sea vegetable, also known as sea asparagus, thrives in tidal salt marshes in north Norfolk.
Locally grown asparagus and potatoes and beet crops such as chard and sugar beet.
Also salt marsh lamb and beef from Blakeney, local pork and Norfolk Pork Pies and sausages, and of course Venison.
