Living so close we always tend to be heading somewhere as we pass so haven’t been in for years. Only ever hearing good things we called in with friends for a weekday lunch. There is a good ‘full time’ menu and decent specials board that caters for all tastes, we all had different meals that were tasty and filling and it was good to see that the food being served around us looked equally appealing as were the desserts. As to be expected there is a wide range of ales with a good selection of wines and non-alcoholic beverages. Prices were good so that the meal was excellent value for money. Breakfasts are available at weekends as are roasts on a Sunday and there are often special events on. It is also very popular nationwide, their beer festival attracting fans from all over the UK; we met someone on holiday in Cuba from Scotland who embarrassingly knew more far about ‘The Trafford’ than we did. There is a wide mix of clientele both in age and group size. We will be returning rather than walking past.

Ate dinner here on Friday 8 April 2022, and back for drinks the following evening. When we visit Norwich we always try to visit here. Great food, good atmosphere and wonderful selection of real ales. If we lived in Norwich, we'd probably almost live in this pub.

Welcoming traditional pub serving good hearty food - chicken enchiladas were great even though the portion size defeated the three of us. Friendly bar staff and a lovely buzzy atmosphere. Lots of seating outside of the front of the pub which is a suntrap in the summer. Would return when in the Norwich area again.

I visited the pub for their annual beer festival for the first time in several years and was pleasantly surprised at the range of ales available all of varying strength and styles. The ones I tried were all in excellent condition and would thoroughly recommend this pub. The staff were very friendly and is really nice and comfortable.

A long overdue visit due to travel being affected by the pandemic and it was as good as ever. I've been using The Trafford for nearly 25 years when working in Norwich.
Great choice of well kept ales ... the Lacon's "Encore" is exceptional.
The choice of food is also very varied and the eating experience is just great.
All of the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient.

Although I’m a regular customer at the Trafford, I’ve never sampled their famous Sunday lunches. Some friends who we met in the Algarve 15 years ago came to visit and I thought it was a good opportunity for us to go.
We were not disappointed!! Three of us had Roast Beef, my wife asked for a smaller portion, and one had Roast Pork. Absolutely delicious and plenty of it. Apart from the succulent meat , the roasties were crispie, not always what we’ve experienced elsewhere, and the vegetables, particularly the cabbage and broccoli very interestingly cooked. I’m not a fan of broccoli to say the least, but the way chef did this was excellent. For afters, one interesting orange cake concoction, one sticky toffee pudding, mistakingly bought but I’m glad they did, one fudge ice cream, three large scoops, and a coffee.
When we had arrived, the ladies had a g and t and a white wine spritzer, my pal had a pint of Shortts Porter, and I had a pint of a tasty Barsham offering. Because one is never sufficient for me, I followed up with a pint of the Porter.
As usual, the staff, two of whom I had never met before, were efficient and charming, a delight.
I can recommend the Traff highly. There’s none better.

Friendly pub...for white people :(
I'm a teacher and a Geordie, who likes to get one with everyone. But I found this pub to be cold and unwelcoming.
The staff didn't make conversation with me, even when I tried chatting with them.
Locals gave me steely looks even when I smiled at them and until I looked away, while they laughed and chatted with their friends.
Never felt uncomfortable in Norwich until I entered this pub because people in Norwich are a polite & friendly bunch.
The food was good though, so compliments to the chef.
Needless to say, I won't be going back and don't recommend this pub to non-white people.

I ordered smoked haddock kedgeree. When it arrived it had clearly been cooked earlier then heated up in a microwave, as it presented as one solid gloopy mass. There was no sign of any pieces of haddock nor did it taste of haddock, the only indication that there was fish in it was the fish bones! There were a couple of chunks of raw ginger in it, and one small piece of spring onion, apart from that it was just a solid lump of rice. It had no flavour at all and could have been any kind of badly cooked rice dish.

For us, pretty much the perfect pub. As mentioned in other reviews, changed hands some time ago, but the commitment to real ale is undiminished. In fact, the interesting selection of up to 10 well kept cask ales continues to make it a firm favourite with local CAMRA members.
Where it scores very high with us is the way they have successfully kept it a great place for locals to drink as well as providing some of the best quality pub grub in the city, without remotely having a "gastro" atmosphere.
Currently running an excellent beer festival with great entertainment as well.
Highly recommended

The Trafford was never going to win any awards. But you were able to get a decent plate of food at a decent price. The added bonus was the surrounds - a local pub, relaxed in what it does. We would eat there often because of this.
Went in for lunch today to see a new, reduced menu. In principle, this is a good thing. I will never understand the need for en extensive menu.
But oh dear. Things have changed. We're talking frozen food and packet salad thrown on a plate. I am not one for quantity over quality. Quite the opposite. But low quantity AND low quality. Well that's just rude. Penny pinching at the worse.
I don't see the point of serving low quality ingredients. If that's what I wanted, I would go to the Tesco down the road. I actually find it insulting.
This is all very sad. Being local, it was a great having a place I could go for lunch. Will have to look further afield now.
