An excellent theatre, shame aboutPrelude restaurant attached!

We have attended this theatre for over thirty years. Every performance bar one exception has been first rate. Seats are comfortable and we know exactly which seats we want.

Henry’s Famous Six.
Sep 2021
Henry the Eighth I am. Had an excellent evening at the theatre. So good to be back seeing live entertainment and the ladies were excellent. Six is a great show and I hope the performers have loads of stamina as they are on a long tour. Well worth seeing. And for what’s it’s worth my vote ( you’ll need to see the show) goes to Jane Seymour played by the excellent Caitlin Tipping. She’s brilliant.

Appalling customer service and organisation

I am really shocked by the poor standards offered by Norwich main Theatre. Long queues on the phone at any time of the day on any week days, sometimes with the line cutting off before even getting through to someone after having waited 20 minutes on hold.

What’s more the booking system does not let you select 2 tickets if there are 3 seats left next to each other, otherwise there is 1 seat left on its own. When I called the booking line to check what could be done, as there where lots of groups of 3 so clearly really inconvenient for couples to book (see picture attached), they said the system would not let them override that option, only the night before the show those groups of 3 would be unblocked to be booked as 2 tickets only if wanted... Yet the same show the following week had 1 seat left free on its own (see screenshot) and after I booked tickets at the very far back for the night we wanted to attend, two days later they had unblocked the groups of 3 steats and there were few seats left isolated (few days before the show)!!!

But the worst was when my friend and I, who are not from Norwich, had to make a sudden return to London sooner than expected as my friend’s grandmother passed away the day before: in their policy they say that they can refund for extreme circumstances so we called them offering to show the booking my friend had just made that day to fly at 6.30am the following day from London (she had to get back home to get her passport) to attend her gramma’s funeral. They refused to see our proof of exceptional circumstances but we were told that they would put our tickets to sell again (yet there is no proof they really did since the show kept on saying ‘Sold out’ on the website - They said they used different channels to resell the tickets and there were many chances someone would come in person the night of the show to ask for cancellations anyway).

However to get a refund in case they sold the tickets, we had to call back the following day: they would not necessarily notify us if the tickets had been sold again. Now who tells us for sure that the tickets were not sold twice then, since we could not attend and we had to chase to check after the show? Of course we were told the following day that they were not able to resell them and when I asked them to at least apply a credit instead as we had been offered the previous day as an option since we could not attend, they could not even keep up their word and told us we should have never been offered that!!!

Very poor customer service, will never use Norwich Theater again and strongly discourage you to do so as well!

Not disabled friendly
Sep 2021
I visited the venue on Saturday the 26th of Sept 2021. I was there to assist a family member who was attending a show and was a wheelchair user. I had not been here before so contacted the venue for assistance re parking access etc a few days before. Firstly they did not answer the phone I held on for 20 minutes just after the phones opened. I emailed and got no response/help it is now Thursday and I still have not had a response. The building has slopes but the runners between carpets are a problem for wheelchairs I ended up helping another wheelchair user to get over the runners before a member of staff nearby noticed the issue and offered to help. In short the building could be better for disabled access and the organisation does not appear to offer support .

Can’t get through to book tickets
Sep 2021 • Couples
Tried to book tickets for November - website repeatedly rejected my email address, no-one picked up the phone at the box office. I bet they do t read this either. I’m tired of hearing people in the Arts complaining about the effect of the pandemic. If you can’t talk to your customers and provide good service they simply can’t come. Pull your finger out!

Fantastic!!! Social distanced seats. Excellent organisation, in and out of the venue. A great 60 minute show, with only a cast of 3. They did an amazing job. It was so good to be back at the theatre. Well done Richard Gauntlett and NTR.

Theatre fun in Chapelfield gardens
Aug 2020 • Family
We visited Interlude in Chapelfield gardens to see the Lost in Translation circus. Brilliant venue. Safe , socially distanced. Well stocked bar with tables to sit at before the show. Well organised and the show was so good. Family fun delivered by a small group of talented entertainers. The arts need our support right now and it was great to do something fun!

Still waiting for a refund!
Mar 2020
I phoned and spoke about getting a refund for the show that was cancelled. I'm still waiting to hear from the manager who was supposed to call me back, or email. How long does it take to make a decision for refunding customers?.
