Lovely unique gardens quite unexpected in the town centre as it's quite hidden away its beautiful, very well kept thanks to the year round volunteers who do a brilliant job. Interesting info dotted around about the owner and history of the place. We was here early April still quite cold but very bright morning. Took lovely pics. It's quite compact so not suitable for crowds but would be an ideal spot for summer picnics (alcohol not allowed) or lazing an hour away. Lovely bridge spans the gardens walking up through a maze of steps (not suitable for wheelchairs. ) Pleasant morning spent wondering around it is definitely worth a visit. £2 per adult goes in the honesty box or donate online as we did. Ps. Well done volunteers keep up the good work!

I love this place. Went with my sister who had not been before and she was so impressed. Feel so grateful that the hard work of others can bring such joy and delight to us visitors. Was disappointed to see many people walking in snd not paying the mere £2 entry fee.

Right next to the Catholic Cathedral, this haven of calm is worth the hefty £2 entry fee, it's payable in cash through a 'trust box' or via your phone. The grounds are a true delight, the planting is lovely and sometimes unusual, and a great place to take a sandwich lunch a short way from the hustle of the city centre. Don't miss it!!

To find the gardens head for the Roman Catholic cathedral ( well worth a visit ! ).
A very interesting bridge takes you over a busy roundabout!
Take some £1 coins to pay the £2 entry fee or spoil them and leave a fiver!

The gardens are amazing and well worth a visit. Quite a bit of climbing to do to visit some of the viewpoints but well worth the effort.

We really enjoyed our visit and, because it is ' off the beaten track ', you will have space to yourselves.

The Plantation Gardens are about five minutes walk from the city centre. As soon as you enter, the traffic noise falls away and everything is green and peaceful. The gardens make full use of their setting, in a former chalk quarry. In the base of the quarry are more formal, Victorian flower beds. Above, a series of paths and rustic bridges wend their way around the former quarry walls. Its an unusual mix of styles with a combination of both gothic and Italian elements. The most prominent feature is the elaborate fountain, sitting in a lily pond. There are plenty of benches to sit down and relax. There are no toilet facilities unless there is an event, and the closest are next door in the Catholic cathedral. There is no catering/ cafe again unless there is an event on but you are welcome to bring a picnic. Admission is by an honesty box for £2.

I didn't know if there would be much to see after all the dry weather, but the planting was looking in very good condition.

Really enjoyed our trip to the Plantation Gardens. It's beautifully quiet and the flowers were incredible. There was a handful of other people in there at the same time as us but it wasn't busy. It's tucked away from everything else but it is well worth the walk out and the time spent walking around. We did it in about 30 minutes but I'm sure you could spend more time there if the weather was warmer! It does ask for £2 per person as you enter, but there's also a text option to pay if you have no change. We took the text option and it was a quick way to pay for our entry.

Not all that easy to find, but please make the effort as this hidden away secret garden is one of Norwich's great treasures and worth the easy short walk over the footbridge from the city centre - it's really not that far.
It's beside the Roman Catholic Cathedral on Earlham Road, and it's a 3 acre Grade II English Heritage registered garden established over 100 years ago in an abandoned chalk quarry.
Great for a leisurely stroll, it is wonderfully sculptured and immaculately maintained with a lovely gothic fountain, flower beds, lawns, an Italianate terrace, a 'Medieval’ terrace wall, a Victorian-style greenhouse and a rustic bridge.
There are also woodland walkways which provide a habitat for wildlife.
It's a haven of peace and tranquillity and when I went there were lots of friends, couples and families enjoying a stroll around, or just sitting in the sun and relaxing.
A glimpse into a bygone age, one of Norwich’s best kept secrets and only £2 to get in.

This was a lovely place ot spend a little time out at as Norwich has quite a few great places to escape the busy city centre and this is one of them. We went on a summer Sunday too with a band playing and you can buy tea and cake there too if you wanted. Really lovely place.

I was recommended to the Plantation Garden and read about it in advance. February was not the best time to visit but still worth it. When we woke early on Sunday morning it was pouring with rain but thankfully by 11.00 the rain had gone. We spent well over an hour wandering about and can imagine how good it will look in the late Spring and Summer. It is quite extraordinary and different from many gardens we have visited. The site is fascinating as is the history. It is conveniently situated next door to the Catholic Cathedral which we visited, and where one can use the loo and take refreshments. It was very easy for us to take the bus and alight at the Cathedral although this had not been clear from looking for a route on Google maps. The bus driver was very helpful or we may have missed the stop. We look forward to paying another visit later this year when we can see the garden in all its glory. Well done to the volunteers who have brought this long-lost garden back to life.

I’d seen pictures of this garden online but wanted to see it in person. When we arrived, a volunteer said that there was a school group there and they were watching a performance about the history of the garden. She said we could watch too so we found a bench and watched the performance. It was a bit like Horrible Histories - very fun and informative. We really enjoyed it. When the performance was over, we had a proper look around the garden. The walls are amazing, made up of bits of pottery and other clay and brickwork. It was a fascinating mosaic. And even though the garden is by a main road, you couldn’t hear any of the traffic. It was very calm and peaceful. We really enjoyed it.
