So peaceful
May 2021
Not all that easy to find, but please make the effort as this hidden away secret garden is one of Norwich's great treasures and worth the easy short walk over the footbridge from the city centre - it's really not that far.
It's beside the Roman Catholic Cathedral on Earlham Road, and it's a 3 acre Grade II English Heritage registered garden established over 100 years ago in an abandoned chalk quarry.
Great for a leisurely stroll, it is wonderfully sculptured and immaculately maintained with a lovely gothic fountain, flower beds, lawns, an Italianate terrace, a 'Medieval’ terrace wall, a Victorian-style greenhouse and a rustic bridge.
There are also woodland walkways which provide a habitat for wildlife.
It's a haven of peace and tranquillity and when I went there were lots of friends, couples and families enjoying a stroll around, or just sitting in the sun and relaxing.
A glimpse into a bygone age, one of Norwich’s best kept secrets and only £2 to get in.

Lovely Garden

Found this garden by pure chance when staying at accommodation just down the road. Not a massive area, but well worth looking around. Has a lovely stone fountain which looks superb.

Beautiful gardens
May 2021 • Couples
We were visiting Norwich and a relation recommended this hidden garden, there was a small car park next to it, but entering the site there was information telling us it was run by volunteers and there was no initial fee ,just a suggestion of a £2 donation, it was so quiet in the grounds considering you were in the middle of a city, there were quite a few people in the gardens on Bench's and sat on the grass , probably having their lunch break on a lovely sunny day, the ancient temple and wall sculptures were exquisite and the walks were lovely although a bit steep for some, the flowers, plant and trees were well taken care of ,and when we were walking around the paths we passed a school party who were enjoying the scenary ,a lovely sedate afternoon spent in lovely surroundings

congrats to the volunteers who maintain this `hidden gem`, just a short walk from the centre of the city. I would recommend signing up as a `friend`.

The gardens have a rich history and are fantastically colourful to just sit in and enjoy. There is a donation fee of £1 on entry. The different levels around the garden also provide some super views for the camera obsessed.

Old chalk pit turned into a beautiful garden.
Nov 2020
This place is lovely, I went early in the morning and only one other person was there. It was like having this magical garden all to myself. Knowing that this was once just an old chalk pit but now a beautiful garden. Well worth a stop by and just relax and de-stress.
