Neighborhood: Whitechapel
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.

Altab Ali Park is in a terrific location but it is unkempt so not that nice to hang out in. So many better parks around London.

I stopped by while on the way to Whitechapel Bell Foundry.
The park was not very nice - trash everywhere and the grass was dead.
I can't imagine taking a kid or a pet there, or sitting in the dead grass for a picnic.

East London park named after a young Bangladeshi man murdered by fascists in 1978.
A place to relax in greenery but also a meeting point for people with alcohol and other substance problems.

Quite why this would be on TripAdvisor as an attraction is a puzzle. As parks go, it's reasonably well kept. Being the site of a former church, there'a a few pics of artefacts left over.
Otherwise it seems to be a hangout for the local homeless, drug dealers and their clients. Only visit f you're REALLY REALL interested in local history

On this perhaps the last day of Summer locals were out in force seizing an opportunity to sunbathe in this small green spot which stands out in the urban jungle of London’s East End just off the Whitechapel Road. The sprinkling of graves is a reminder that this was once the yard of St. Mary’s Church bombed to destruction in the 1940 Blitz. It was re-named in 1998 in memory of a young Bangladeshi man murdered nearby in 1978. It is here that Sir John Cass is buried whose legacy as a local benefactor is currently under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in the Slave Trade. Expect a statue to be erected here just so it can be destroyed.

Went there to pay my respects to the fallen soldiers at Shaheed Minar - only to see people drinking alcohol, taking drugs, and literally one's snoozing cos they're so high. A real shame and was really really hurt to see this . It's always been my dream to visit this park and honour altab Ali and his story, but see it for yourself, not only from my point of view. After dark it turns into the depths of hell. Shame and a really tragedy.

Very definitely off the beaten track except for locals despite being on a main road, but well worth a visit. This used to be the site of St Mary Matfelon church, which had lime-washed walls giving it the white appearance after which the Whitechapel district is named. The church has gone, but some gravestones remain. The park is now named after a local Muslim man, who was murdered in a racist attack. This is also the location of the first public water fountain in London's East End, installed in Victorian times to combat the endemic cholera caused by the terrible water supply. There are extensive information boards, giving a wealth of history about the park.

This was outside our hotel, Qbic, so nice small park to take time out in the hustle of London.
We sat with lunch in the sun, also there is the story and history behind the park.

This place used to be well taken care of but now it is best to avoid. It is fine to hang around it during day time or when there are people walking around the area regularly. But it is best to avoid it during the night and when it looks deserted.
