Neighborhood: Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.

Great selection
Oct 2019
A real London bastion of music retail. Deep selection of back catalogue LP's and CD's.
Well laid out, bright and clean, helpful staff.

Precious record shop survivor

So few record shops have survived the Amazon and digital streaming revolutions, but London’s Soho district still has a few. Sister Ray is such a wonderful reminder of how this special corner of the retail market used to be. It’s undoubtedly been boosted by the current revival of interest in vinyl records but it’s always been busy when I’ve been there. It really is an Aladdin’s Cave for physical music enthusiasts and trades in second hand as well as new items. The staff are of course a mine of help and useful information. We all need to support these endangered places.

Record Shopping

Popped in to get some vinyl during our trip to London. Came out very happy, the store has a great range of both used and new, CDs and vinyl. We mostly shopped downstairs, picked up some vinyl and then a couple of CDs from upstairs.

Excellent Central London music store

Sister Ray is a must-visit whenever I'm in London, even though I always end up spending more than I'd intended to. It's a smaller store than the previous one across the road, but still has just a good a selection of CDs of 60s music as before.

I like sister ray. Good records. Nice, cool, atmosphere.
There aren't too many shops like it left, now that they've all been shutting down recently.

High Fidelity-type record shop staff
May 2017 • Couples
Me and my missus are both avid record buyers, and spend a lot of money in record shops up and down the country. Sister Ray has some interesting bits and bobs, and prices aren't too outrageous for Soho, but man, the staff were SO patronising to my girlfriend last time we were in there - when she looked at the disc to check for scuffs, scratches and surface wear, the person behind the counter went 'Oh, wow, well SOMEone's an expert', then burst out laughing. Hope he remembers this when the rents go up again next year and he's back down the job centre.
