My partner and I visited this cinema yesterday and were delighted to see that the seating in the former lounge screen was much improved. The old low rise bean bag type uncomfortable seating has been replaced by lovely comfortable chairs much to the relief of both of us! We enjoy going to this cinema but feel that the ticket prices are expensive for what is essentially a local cinema.

I really like it here.. The bar and cafe are usually excellent. Great beers, cakes, snakes and full meals. Lovely place to sit and relax too.
The cinema room was a little chilly, as noted by a previous reviewer, but as I was watching the revenant I thought this added to the overall experience. And all for £8.
I recommend this cinema- but take a jumper

Loved this place. The service is brilliant. We got there late as someone jumped on the track at Dalston but no problem with changing tickets for next day. Lovely cinema too, with comfortable seats. Nice bar area downstairs but cant comment on food as not open when we went as chef was ill.

The heating is low, so if you feel chilly, bring a scarf or something...

Ok the seats are comfortable with a nice recline but wow is this place expensive.
That always seem to have a heating issue so it can be uncomfortably cold.
The ticket desk handled drinks, food etc so queuing can be a long wait and the staff are a bit sniffy, they don’t seem to approve of anything that isn’t arthouse.
I took out membership a couple of years ago with the promise off special events and screenings but in 12 months was never offered or contacted once.
Also they never answer the phone or reply to emails.
Very crappy customer care in my opinion.

I went to the cinema yesterday when my Airpods fell out of coat pocket. I got home and checked their location at 10pm and it showed their location was still in the Hackney Picture house. When I called the customer service the next day - I gave them information of the screen, time, row number and the seat I was in. They said they couldn't find them despite them telling me it was cleaned by staff members in the screen straight after my screening. I had to chase up the customer service to tell me that they couldn't find them. After the cinema was contacted by their customer service - my Airpods have been disconnected. I have been told (by Daniella) from customer service that there is nothing that Picture house can do and it ain't the fault of Picture House if a staff member has kept my Air pods over putting it in the lost & found. Shocking customer service and behaviour by staff!

This cinema is one that I choose to go to often after work on a Friday evening. They only have a few screens. The staff are always really helpful and I've never had any issues with screens when I've watched films there. It is definitely a quiet cinema which is great as you get served straight away. My favourite screen is the lounge screen, it's small but extremely cosy and always shows some great films. The seats are in a way low like bean bags and they are adjustable so you can position them any way that you prefer. They also have an onsite restaurant! I would recommend going here to watch those arty/Independent films. You wouldn't regret it one bit.

First time visit on Saturday 2nd Jan for the 6.30pm screening of Star Wars, as a birthday treat. 2 minutes into the film and the projector cuts out. Aloof staff member casually informs us they will try for 5 mins to fix problem, but it is likely the screening will be cancelled. It is clear he is well practiced in this drill. He informs us that we will be entitled to a refund, in such a manner like this was a gesture of their goodwill. Not prepared to queue with 500 other people for an immediate refund, I ask staff if I can come back for the refund the next day; I am reassured this is fine. I return Monday only to be told by the Manageress that they cannot issue refunds on tickets for a previous date from the box office. But they will take my details - which they will email to another party - who will then phone me to issue the refund. The next day I get the call - and I'm happy to give my long card number and expiry date - but then he asks for my 3 digit security number!! Why is this required? I refuse. Extremely dodgy. He then says the refund has gone through nonetheless. I am gracious. Needless to say I will not be visiting that shambolic pit again!

Don’t have the halloumi, it was not cooked and a strange yellow colour! I told staff who didn’t really respond and so I had to order chips.
Shame as it’s a good cinema

Went to see Incredibles 2 on the weekend of its release. Saturday morning screening was £13.70 adults and £7.70 kids. The snacks were ridiculously expensive, forget it. The men's toilets stank like the rankest third rate pub. There was virtually no air conditioning in the cinema on one of the hottest days in the year and the whole family was dripping with sweat by the end of the film. This wasn't helped by the fact that the seats stank like an old tramp. The screen in Cinema 1 which is the biggest was a bit dark which suggests that the bulb was running out and needs replacing. The picture was low resolution. It's probably an old 2K projector. Lower resolution than my TV at home. You can see all jaggedy lines on the diagonals which really doesn't work on animation. Such a pity they've let this cinema really degrade. Was quite promising when it opened. Crazy high ticket prices and a bit of a dump these days. Needs a good clean and some proper investment in an upgrade. Do something about it please.
