Address
Neighborhood: City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

Excellent cocktails in cosy basement bar
May 2019 • Couples
15 May. Stopped here for a cocktail before dinner at Coya. On a hot evening it was was a pleasure to be below ground somewhere cool. The cocktails, some basic some fancy, are excellent and clearly aiming for the quirky side. Mine was served in a cute little milk bottle! All tables have a carafe of tap water provided. A nice touch.

Great place!
May 2019 • Couples
Came here on my birthday for drinks before heading to a restaurant nearby. It’s a lovely space with lots of seating booths and tables and nice lighting. It was quiet as we went in early and staff took extra care of suggesting cocktails and drinks to our taste, they really care that you enjoy their creations. I had an espresso martini and two raspberry mojitos all delicious! My boyfriend had two negronis and then a concoction made by the barman which he said was great. Cocktails are reasonable for London and very strong! I’d imagine this place gets really busy later and has a good vibe!

Perfect bar for a weeknight date!
Feb 2019 • Couples
This bar is the perfect place to go for a weeknight date. The ambience is lovely: the music is relaxing, smooth and not too loud, the seating is comfortable and the lighting is dimly lit and romantic. The service is impeccable and the drinks are great! This place is a cosy and intimate place which makes it great for a romantic date :)

It's a cocktail bar
Nov 2018 • Friends
This may sound confusing but it is a very good cocktail bar. But that's where this place ends. The service has improved over the last year.
But outside of the initial feel that this is in the basement of the trendy area of London nothing special.

great cocktail bar

This underground cocktail bar is really good. Nice atmosphere, great helpful staff and good food. comfortable seats, nice lighting ideally for date nights and to have a drink with your friends. There is no standing area so you better reserve a table before showing up! Go check it out!

Wow! Small, hidden away, and Fantastic
Aug 2018 • Couples
This tiny cocktail bar in the basement of a pub in Throgmorton street, lies in the heart of the city. The cocktails are eclectic, fun and reasonably priced (relative to typical London cocktail bar prices).

Watching the cocktails being made was entertaining, the presentation of each was amazing, and the taste was great.

Book to avoid disappointment.

Amazong cocktails from spirits you should never make cocktails from!
Jul 2018 • Couples
Demon Wise is, for starters, an outstanding whisky bar, with a deep collection of whiskies (Scottish, American, Japanese, and others), served by skilled, professional, and deeply knowledgeable bar staff. Despite drawing a decent crowd, it also remains one of the few bars in London where you can actually have a conversation without yelling to be heard. It is a great place to bring a date, a colleague, or just yourself.

Their specialty, however, are a pair of cocktails referred to as the Demon and the Wise. These are made from extremely high end spirits, the kind you would ordinarily never use for mixed drinks. The trick is that they will acquire just a few bottles of these special spirits, and serve exactly 100 cocktails made from them. Once those 100 drinks are served, that particular concoction is gone and never served again, an entirely new Demon or Wise replaces it, until it gets served 100 times, and so on.

To give an example, the last time I was there, I had the Demon, which on that evening was a boiler-maker that featured an obscure, deeply roasted and smoky porter paired with a limited release dram of Port Charlotte, the deeply peated Islay Whisky made by Bruichladdich. After mine was served, there were 72 left on its countdown. My wife opted for the Wise, which on that evening was an outrageous 1969 Armagnac misted with citrus and absinthe. At the time my wife had this amazing elixir, there were but 7 of them left.

This is one of the best bars you will find in London. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Service atrocious but cocktails good
Feb 2018 • Family
5 of us arrived on time (7.30) shown to a table that was VERY uncomfortable and squashed. We waited to be given cocktail menus but after 5 minutes grabbed them from another table. Apologies from the waiter, who took our order, but things didn't improve.
We were still waiting for our drinks at 8! That's a long wait - that you'd certainly not endure in a pub.
When they arrived, they were excellent - but we certainly weren't up for waiting for a second.
Too many other places to try before I bother to return.

Not bad for the City
Jun 2017 • Friends
It was a nice sunny evening when I met an ex-colleague here for after-work drinks. Accordingly, the crowd was outside on Throgmorton Street and the basement bar was completely empty.

This made for excellent service and a quiet place to catch up. For the City, a rarity in independence rather than chain pubs.

However. VERY expensive. Two people sharing a couple of bottles of wine: £130. Not worth it. Clearly designed for bankers with so much money bills are meaningless to them.
