Utter disrespect for its paying members
Dec 2019
Since PureGym took over the SohoGym chain everything has gone down hill drastically. I attend the Covent Garden one, have been for the past 12 years. PureGym have absolutely no regard for its members or PTs.

The locker room is tiny, no deadlifting, no functional area or equipment, they have removed heavy dumbbells etc.

For the past 2 weeks the male showers have been not working. We have not received any proper update. We talked to the area manager today and she had no update. She said she had to wait until she hears from her superiors.

They have not given her any update and had nothing for the members.

This is utter disrespect, we are all paying full price without a reduction for the situation. We have been told that we can use other gyms but this is not the point, we allocated Covent Garden as our home gym for a reason. Using other gyms is not a solution. And yet in the meantime there is no plan in action for the showers to be operational again.

The Area Manager stated that she will be on holiday until Tuesday so we will not get an update until after her return. This is another utterly disrespectful expectation the PureGym management team think we should just accept.

I will use the reviewing platforms to get the attention of the senior management team at PureGym to respect its paying members and provide a full update with timelines and reduction of the Home Gym memberships.

Very unpleasant encounter

Soho gyms offer a free trail pass which you can apply for through their website. I’ve applied for it and when I was filling in the forms at the reception I did say that I work for another gym and don’t live locally I was asked to pay £15 for entry. When I questioned that I was told that terms and conditions state that free pass applies only to people living in the same postcode as the gym which is NOT in the terms and conditions. This is why I hate chain gyms- they’re only interested in the numbers and your honesty and friendliness doesn’t matter- you are just another £ in the pocket. Avoid

Excellent Training Facility
Jul 2018 • Solo
Having been a member for 12 years now, predominantly at Waterloo I have to say it's been one of the best gyms I have trained in during an adult lifetime of gym use. Great kit and a very professional management style from Waterloo manager, Daniel and his team.
Bit saddened to see the takeover from PureGyms. I would hope they will leave a successful business and excellent customer service model well alone......but we shall see.

Great Experience
Apr 2018 • Couples
My husband and I were staying in Camden for 5 days and travelling from Australia we were seeking a gym we could work out at that was easy and somewhere we felt comfortable. As soon as we walked into the gym it felt like we were home. The staff were so friendly and the facilities were impressive. We would highly recommend this gym to anyone like us travelling around London. Thank you to the staff at Soho Gym Camden!

Visited Camden branch after many years. Nice clean and generally well maintained. Studio floor was a bit dusty & changing rooms were a bit dirty too but apart from those minor issues a lovely gym. Would work here / visit again Thanks

First impression was excellent
Feb 2018 • Solo
I dropped by Soho Gym Waterloo today to check the location out myself before making a decision of whether to sign up or not.
The manager gave me a tour of the facilities and they are really first class IMO.
I feel especially qualified to say this as I am a fitness instructor myself and have taught at gyms all over London for the past 15 years, though I no longer teach for any gyms (and I have no relationship with Soho Gyms).
The weights were all racked and the gym was clean and very well equipped with free weights, cardio machines and a TRX area as well as two studios and a dry sauna.
I was also impressed by the layout and design of the gym. It feels more upper end of the market compared to outfits like Pure Gym and Virgin Active.
The manager was very courteous with me and I was more than happy to sign up for a year on the spot.

A Great Place to Work Out
Jan 2018 • Solo
I'm really surprised by some of the reviews on here, because I am so impressed with Soho Gyms in Holborn. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, the overall environment is welcoming, and the equipment is in excellent condition. The PTs are knowledgeable and, though I have yet to try out the classes, they look interesting and I've heard good things. And, it should be mentioned, that they always play a great music selection so you can be unencumbered by that constrictor knot headphones always seem to get themselves into. So, if you're looking for a great place to work out, with amazing people, well-maintained and clean equipment, and an atmosphere that promotes working hard and getting good results, this is the place for you. Thank you Soho Gyms!

Ad hoc visit
Nov 2017 • Solo
I am not a member of gym but utilise day passes local to where I am visiting at the time. As i entered I was greeted by two smiling instructors; unknowingly I did not have all necessary stuff with me (towel and padlock) but fine- the guys sorted me out then gave me a quick tour. Lots of machines to choose from - a 'large-ish' space and not cramped. The space has a retro industrial Berlin feel with visible pipes; and clean. The changing rooms and showers had a dated feel but in closer view, also spotless. Great central location yet in a quiet side street. Colin.

Not good...Once gay friendly...It should actually be rebranded as a Women Only Gym.

Senior management are not only rude but actually bully and I do agree with many of the other reviews I have seen on trip advisor regarding this business. From my own point of view I experienced internalised homophobia and was not happy with the manner in which complaints were handled. I have kept a copy of the letter sent by management as evidence.

Having read a few misleading, and frankly dishonest, reviews on here I feel bound to correct the record. The Soho Gym in Waterloo is wonderful and is staffed by very friendly and very helpful staff. The previous reviewer must have brought her own problems to the venue and vented her spleen unnecessarily. All of the staff are welcoming and professional. The equipment is up to date and well maintained. Free guided tours are offered to all visitors and and it is dishonest to report that this was refused. Enjoy your workout 😎
