The area
Neighborhood: City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

I was given a virgin voucher for my birthday and we decided to use it for dinner last night. We had booked for 7.30 but were in the area much earlier and a lovely young lady, I think her name was Elvira, managed to get us a table earlier.
Whilst waiting we had wine and a G and T and then a fabulous “secret” cocktail that our charming barman Andrejus made for us, apologies if I have spelt your name incorrectly. He was a star.
The food was delicious, each course was beautifully presented and very importantly for me served very hot, nothing worse than being served tepid food. Dress warmly in winter months as it is a beautiful big area and can be chilly. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant

If you get seated at the bar don’t bother unless you like to be invisible Sat there for 20 minutes watching the bar staff shine the glass wear. Walked out and the host gave us a surprised look so we advised her no one could be bothered to serve us. Nice place to enter and see but do yourself a favour and walk across the road to The Ned Amazing !!

We went to the Royal Exchange, a lovely old building, with a few upmarket shops, mainly watches and jewellery, to see a watch at Watchfinder, which I didn't buy.

However we had a drink at the Fortnum & Mason bar/food place in the centre, which we didn't know was there. It has a good selection of drinks for the connoisseur and excellent service by the friendly staff.

Worth a look if you're in the area.

Went for be a stroll after our meal and came across the gorgeous Royal exchange building. Inside there are high end shops and a Fortnum and Mason restaurant in the middle. The shops were closed due to the late evening. Next time we will be calling for a drink and sitting and looking at the surroundings.

We visited the royal exchange today in order to experience the atmosphere and have some afternoon tea if there was space available. With no reservation we thought we’d try our luck and fortunately there were still some seats to fill. Thanks to an excellent waiting staff the entire experience was pure joy (of course the quality of the afternoon tea itself also helped!). The complimentary glasses of champagne were totally unexpected and very welcome and with the staff on point it was an experience to savour!

Went there to visit prior to the St Paul cathedral evensong. The building was really beautiful. Besides shopping, also a great destination for afternoon tea

Reserved online for a Tuesday morning at 9:30am. Not very busy at this time on a weekday, but cannot comment on weekend visits. Some were turning up without a booking and had no problem getting a table, but if you know you want to do, then I’d suggest a reservation just to make certain.

Great service and food and a lovely way to kick-start your day in London, whatever you’re up to.

Not as pricey as i thought it might be. Regular London prices for coffee etc. I select a smoked salmon dish, which i realised was about the most expensive breakfast item; but i was on holiday!

The Royal Exchange building and the Fortnum installation is all very grand and impressive, a very nice place to sit, eat and drink. Would definitely do it again.

Excellent service from Patricia. Thank you

I enjoyed teas, juices anf fresh fruit salad; on a morning where I woke up feeling awful. A duvet day beckoned, alas my conscience got the better of me and I foraged on.

Location, ambience and service are excellent.

Everything I ate and drank was also superb.

A lovely quiet place to relax and eat. As it's now run by Fortnum, the food is expectedly outstanding.

No hesitation in recommending or re-visiting.

Externally and internally it’s fantastic. Some great places to eat inside. Note that it’s a bit of a journey to the toilets in the basement.

The Royal Exchange Building is a massive complex in the banking district. Take the steps up to the entrance and admire the huge support columns. Once inside, you will see all high end exclusive shops that are so expensive I could not even afford to window shop.

There is the main café that sits in the center of the enclosed courtyard. The glass enclosed atrium and the inner architecture of the building is quite the stunning side to check out if one is in the area.

Normally, there are public restrooms in the building, but they were under construction during my visit.
