From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

This memorial is in tribute to the lives of all the men and women firefighters of the United Kingdom who were killed in the line of duty. The bronze sculpture depicts three firefighters in action at the height of the Blitz of WWII, which was the original idea for the monument until it was changed to the present dedication. The statue surmounts a plinth covered in bronze plaques for the rolls of honour.

At the start of the walkway from St. Paul’s Churchyard to the Millennium Bridge sits a modest yet striking sculpture depicting firefighters in action at the height of the Blitz. It was sculpted by John W. Mills and unveiled by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1991. It was later decided to dedicate the memorial to all firefighters in the U.K. who had died in the line of duty triggering a re-dedication ceremony headed by the Princess Royal in 1993.

Sited near St Paul's Cathedral on route to the Millennium Bridge this unassuming but so moving. Imagine the feelings of all those who face fire and all the destruction that it causes to property and lives. Their lost lives are rightly recognized in this memorial. Spare a second, or miss a step to acknowledge their sacrifice for our being there.

You can find this ebony memorial across the southern side of the St. Paul’s Cathedral. It is a bronze and steel structure. 3 figures can be seen standing on an octagonal base. Two of them are aiming a fire hose towards a fire and the third one is pointing in another direction at some other fire. They seem to be standing on rubble. London has seen more than its share of fires. St. Paul’s Cathedral has survived those and the German air raids resiliently. This monument was initially built to pay homage to the men who battled the blitz. As an afterthought women were also added. It was rededicated in 2003 and called the National Firefighters Memorial to honour all firefighters since 1700 when the fire brigade was established. You can read many names on the tall base. It not a very attractive or eye catching structure.

This is a wonderful memorial to all the fire fighters who have given their lives. Next to the St Paul's Cathedral.

This was ok we just happened to walk past and saw it. The sentiment is fantastic but the monument is on the way to the millennium bridge so worth going to

The Firefighter's Memorial is located across the road from St Paul's Cathedral. It shows three firefighters and on the plinth at the names of the firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.
It's a poignant reminder of the bravery that is carried out by these officers in protecting us.

As I left St. Paul's to go on my own London Adventure starting with the Millenium Bridge, I passed this interest memorial. It was a great tribute to those who fought the fires of the London blitz.

A surprising location for the National Memorial for all firefighters who have lost their lives in service.
Good stature, unassuming much like the people it memorialises

This lovely and detailed memorial is easily missed despite being on the main thoroughfare between St Paul's Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge. It features firefighters at work as well as hundreds of those killed during WW2. There is a small separate list of female firefighters.
