Neighborhood: Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighborhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.

Long time whisky fan so I’ve seen many whisky bars… milroy’s in sobo is incredibly expensive, and on top of the 20 pounds per glass for 100-pound bottles of whisky, you get to enjoy a 12.5% service charge… on drinks. Every time you wonder whether a bottle is worth having, the barman will happily try a little bit himself to tell you. A unique oddity. Might give two stars because of the Olympic performance of the staff staying upright after all the “sampling”. I used to love the Spitalfields bar, but I was embarrassed to have taken my friends to the original tonight.

Hi Richard I have been looking through our video footage to see who might be drinking on the bar, I can't isolate the incident for a whole week any times or dates would be helpful so we can make sure this does not happen again.

Visited on a busy Saturday night, eventually found a seat at the bar, and was transported into whisky heaven. The staff could not have been more knowledgeable as well as friendly.
Prices are reasonable for central London, they recommended some fabulous stuff and included those new to whisky as well as those who think they know it all like myself!
This has been my favourite place for 20+ years, and just keeps getting better and better.

Not impressed with bar staff on the last couple of visits. On a previous visit I was unable to pull staff away from a personal chat to order even though I was the only customer so walked out. This evening was offered a £35 dram, without being told the price, to replace the lack of a requested PC10 or similar (which should be reasonably priced).
They used to be so good. What's happened?

I had a great night here enjoying scotch, Bourbon and Irish whiskeys with folks from England and Ireland while visiting. Great selection of American Bourbons. Awesome service. I wanted to stay longer!

A friend suggested we meet here and as I don’t really know London, I felt this was as good as any.

As a whisky geek, this place was heavenly. If you want to drink Bells or Grouse then this may not be your sort of place but I am sure the friendly bar staff could find you something you would like. Prices were good for the quality of product on offer.

After my friend left I spent about another hour speaking to Jason, one of the barmen there; it is clear all the staff have a passion for whisky.

Look forward to being able to return

Third visit in two year and I’m done, at least with the Soho branch. It’s a fun concept. But the staff have been unwelcoming at best on all three occasions. Mind you, on two of the three occasions we knew exactly what we wanted and it was still a struggle to make eye contact and get anyone’s attention. It’s a tiny place. And they had maybe 6 patrons max.

On the third visit, we asked for recommendations. Tried three different whiskeys. And then the staff member serving us forgot we were there for a good 10 minutes. Standing a couple of meters away behind the bar, not a single eye contact. We finally caught someone else’s attention, asked for our bill, paid, and walked out.

The whole “I’m busy talking to this guy” attitude is extremely off-putting. Particularly when your entire shtick is providing tailored service.

I’ve only been to the Shoreditch branch once and it was the exact opposite experience to Soho. Lovely staff, welcomed us, asked all the right questions to get us started, and even came back for more recommendations and chitchat.

Both upstairs and the downstairs vault are worth visiting. If you’re a whiskey novice the staff will nudge you in the right direction. Downstairs is the ideal place for an illicit encounter. Just make sure you book….and clearly don’t use your own name.

Our search for a decent cocktail after several disappointing visits to other establishments led us back here. Not having visited since before lockdown we were very relieved that nothing has changed. Experienced, skilled, attentive and friendly staff, great music, snug and intimate environment and a couple of great drinks and thankfully faith was restored! Love it both upstairs and downstairs. Very glad we managed to get in and prices a heck of a lot more reasonable than some of the other places I have reviewed today. No icebergs in glasses here!

Really cool boutique shop with great selection of independent bottlers. Prices are pretty reasonable too. I wish they mentioned the Vault but maybe it was too early in the day. Would recommend a visit if you are a single malt enthusiast.
