Excellent beer range and an impressive fridge. Staff welcoming and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is relaxing, but apparently hipsters are unable the close a door (please fit a door closer) so at this time of year it's bloody cold..

Great bar with an amazing lineup of keg and bottled beer. There’s something for everyone’s tastes. The cheese board is ideal when you’ve had a couple of drinks too.
Great service from the guys behind the bar also, thank you!

Outstanding new place in London's hip east side. This place has only been open for a few months, and is very close in proximity to the newly renovated "Town Hall", which is a massive new hotel/apartment building. Mother Kelly's is in a very spacious structure with a great vibe, huge selection of tap and bottled beers. Mother Kelly's has 23 taps, and a variety of wines, and a massive selection of bottled beers, ginger beers, sodas and though a small selection of food - the munchies are great. The pork pie is fantastic - (more on this later), and the cheese selection is terrific. The bar tenders I met last week, Alex and Steve, are smart and have a lot of knowledge to share about the beers, how/where they are made, and the tastes they will impart.

While visiting London from the USA for a few days of business, I wanted to have one evening to relax and enjoy some unique European Beers. As I enjoy Florida's micro-brewery explosion, and frequent Cigar City in Tampa, I was seeking something new and unique in London. I sought input from several bars nearby describing my desire to visit some place that had lots of tap beers, and hopefully had a fun atmosphere. It become very clear after only a few minutes that Mother Kelly's, East London’s hottest new spot, would be the place.

Mother Kelly’s, a combo beer store and taproom, combines some unique styles and cultures into a vibrant setting in Bethnal Green station area. The bartenders explained the genesis of the name, "Mother Kelly's, from a song named On Mother Kelly’s Doorstep, written by Danny La Rue in the 1960s, which refers to Paradise Row. And, as one can discover, Mother Kelly's also happens to be located at 251 Paradise Row. As an American, the U.S. influence is clear from a rich selection of American micro-brews, the general atmosphere, and massive street art.

There are 23 taps displayed in very basic form (a simple ordinal number above each tap, e.g. 1,2,3,4, etc.), which corresponds to the changing paper beer menu. As mentioned before, the bartenders, Alex and Steve have to be sharp to stay on top of the variety of ever-changing beers, as well as the flavors, characteristics, and origins given the broad selection. There is clearly a strong commitment to fresh, unique and smaller, entrepreneurial beer manufacturers.

The food menu, while it is not as extensive as the beer selection, is excellent. On Thursday nights, the Mrs. King's pork pies are fresh, and delicious. For those who have not experienced a pork pie, or especially, a Mrs. King's pork pie, you are missing out on a delicacy. It is simply delicious and served with several sauces that complement the beers one is likely to be consuming.

It is noteworthy that it was a conscious decision by the owner to NOT put TV screens in this establishment, as is so common at many pubs, clubs and watering holes these days. Mother Kelly's is truly a place to congregate, enjoy great beer, good food, and conversation. Like its namesake song, this place is a throwback, with a modern vibe, and it works quite well.

I headed to Mother Kelly's, Bethnal Green after a stressful day at the parish. East is, by all standards, a hip place to be, and what could possibly be more hip than having a fancy craft beer in an arch? Well, it turns out, Mother Kelly's took the 'cool' vibe of east a little too literally- it was freezing! I had to keep my coat on throughout my stay and I really was very frustrated I hadn't kept my cassock on from service for an extra layer. Now, I wouldn't say the bar was as cold as Judas' heart, but I would say it was as drafty as Mary and Joseph's stable.

I pray Mother Kelly's get sufficient heating soon, although this seems unlikely as it transpires that they struggle to even pay their staff living wage. I pray the owner decides to pay the staff a wage they deserve- they were lovely and efficient and I hope they feel appreciated by management. Finding this out after researching later really does put a negative spin on my delicious pint.

On my quest to find the best pizza in London, on my way to the Mekkah of pizza: New York, I discovered this venue now lets you order in from Yard Sale Pizza for free delivery. I ordered a pepperoni on an 18 inch base (I was starving, I always am after a sermon). I wouldn't say the pizza was fit for a last supper, but it certainly did the trick.

I've rated Mother Kelly's poor, not only due to the cold, although it certainly would put me off going back in winter months. But also because, it has, unfortunately been added to my boycott list as I continue my advocation of living wage. It us up to us as the consumers to ask for better treatment of staff at the places we visit.

Mother Kelly's is in my prayers and I hope to return once wages are raised and I've purchased some thermals.

There’s a big choice of beer, and a lot of it is really good. It is pricey (some cans are £20 and quite a lot are £8, and 1/2 pint average about £6). But that’s London.

Worse thing is the food. They do cheese boards but you can get takeaway pizza. *but* only from once place and that place doesn’t really have the ability to deliver sufficient pizzas. So we waited 2.5 hours. Which wasn’t great.

If they’re going to allow takeaways, allow all takeaways!

Discovered this place last July and no visit to London since is complete without coming here for beers and snacks. The venue itself is lovely, the staff are amazing and friendly and the beer is just out of this world. The choice, quality and value for money is impossible to beat. When I die I want my ashes to be scattered here.

My favourite place to hang out and explore beers in Bethnal Green. During my single years, it was my go-to place for Tinder dates and it always delivered ;)

Nice modern bar with a great selection of the craft beers on tap and more to take home in the fridge. Located under the railway arch, very comfortable with a good service.

The vast selection of craft beer was a delight, although a few more session ales wouldn't have gone amiss. We found the place in Vauxhall a little cold and dingy, and the staff weren't very engaging. Not welcoming enough to stay for more than one or two. Shame the atmosphere doesn't match the beer list!

I LOVE MOTHER KELLY'S This place is welcoming with great staff and an incredible variety of drinks. Local frequent this place and it is a strong mixture of 30 somethings who have bought in the area and the New Wave flooding East London of those of use who have lived here for the last 10 years and have finally put down roots. It strikes the right chords in not being pretentious or over priced, also great music played there as well. A good go to location
