A fantastic red bus tour covering many historical areas including a boat ride along the Thames ending with a cream tea in Harrods.
The tour starts at Victoria Coach Station where the departure area is well sign-posted. The bus itself is an original red London bus with the roof on the upper deck modified to allow alfresco seating although seats at the front are covered. The bus is of the hop on, hop off vintage with the entrance at the rear but there are plenty of rails and handles to help with embarking.
Our guide for the day was a lovely chap called John Morosini-Whelan. John was very knowledgeable about all of the passing sights. John explained all the main details about each important building, statue, bridge, church with humour and clarity. I certainly learned a lot about London’s fascinating history.
The bus stopped at Buckingham Palace for a photo opportunity. The tour then took in the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall, Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, The Strand, St Paul’s, amongst many others and eventually to the pier at The Tower of London where we transferred to a large covered boat.
The boat tour took us back down towards Westminster Bridge and again we got to see a lot of the historical sights that line both banks. Our tour guide for the boat was John Gunnery who was both informative and funny.
There are 3 options with this tour so
back on dry land at Westminster some people went onto to the London Eye, others had already gone onto a fish and chip supper with tour guide John Gunnery. Our bus was waiting to take us to the third option of a cream tea at Harrods Department Store with our tour guide John Morosini-Whelan.
Harrods was where we said goodbye to the bus and our excellent driver who had had to handle some tricky London traffic.
Our guide John took us right up to the tea room and made sure that everyone was seated and well looked after. So we always had our guide to show us where to go.
The tea was sumptuous including scones, cream, jam, a pot of tea and of course a glass of Prosecco!
I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see a lot of the main sights. The tour is safe, fun and informative. The guides were excellent.
